Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

Was Leonard's mention of bat guano really removed from the omnibus on Sunday?

I didn't listen, so can't be sure.

Why would they have done that? 🤔

Is the omnibus often edited, with bits taken out?

RuairiDonovan · 13/05/2026 15:29

The Archers - 04/05/2026 - BBC Sounds, about 12:05
The Archers Omnibus - 10/05/2026 - BBC Sounds about 23:50

TottersBlankly · 13/05/2026 15:42

Ah, @WheresThatCatGoneNow - you’ve missed an entire golden era …

In a previous century (either because the total length of the week’s episodes was too long to fit the omnibus, or in order to accommodate Tom Forrest’s opening omnibus monologue - I forget which) the editors used to cut out inconsequential bits of chat from the omnibus that had been broadcast during the week. Often villagers bumping into their neighbours at the door of the village shop and passing the time of day, or change counting, or Oh yes, I remember Reggie, wasn’t he at the county fair that time Esmerelda’s piglets ran amok and Auntie Chris blah blah …. Listening for, and being able to spot the Sunday morning cuts used to be a source of quiet fun when we had nothing else to entertain us …

Maybe they’re reviving the tradition along with the WI? I’ve always said Tracy would be perfect for the philosophical monologue.

TottersBlankly · 13/05/2026 15:43

I’m not re-listening, @RuairiDonovan - feel free to tell me I mis-heard!

You don't really need to listen. The times don't match.

MarmaladeorJam · 13/05/2026 16:01

The inconsistency around Justing Really Annoys Me.

He goes from high powered, cold business man to volunteer in the local shop to making petty small money decisions back to mega watt business man with blacked out SUVs clogging up the roads in Ambridge.

Really stupid.

muddyford · 13/05/2026 16:01

I've been getting the 400 bad request message on my tablet, but so far it's OK on my 'phone. No idea what to do to my tablet.

RuairiDonovan · 13/05/2026 16:07

Have you tried rebooting it?

muddyford · 13/05/2026 16:17

Yep, but still no joy.

RuairiDonovan · 13/05/2026 16:20

Have you reported it to MN? Have you tried logging out and then in?

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/05/2026 16:38

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/05/2026 13:31

Phew, finally managed to work out a way to MN on my laptop. The 400 error has been getting in the way for days now, but opening MN in an incognito window seems to have done the trick.

Anyway, back to TA. [Tries to remember what's been happening. Tries to think of anything positive to say. Tries to think of any negative thing to say that hasn't already been said better by the rest of you. Fails on all counts.] Oh, let's not bother.

I had the 400 Error message and cleared the cache whatever that actually means but it worked.

muddyford · 13/05/2026 16:17

Yep, but still no joy.

Be careful saying that. She’ll hear.

muddyford · 13/05/2026 17:15

Aaargh! Mega apologies!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/05/2026 17:35

I cleared the cache the first time it happened on my laptop. I lost my high score on a puzzle I do every day Hmm and had to log into various things I'm normally autologged into, which meant digging around for passwords. I'm not doing that again. On my mobile, which also had the error, I've been reduced to installing the app, which I hate. However, fortunately the incognito window on my laptop seems to have solved it this second time. Possibly related to browser. I use Chrome.

Hmm. The incognito tab is such a faff. How do I clear cache? Never had any problem before the last couple of days.

Hercisback · 13/05/2026 17:51

If you're on chrome, click the 2 dots in the top right, then click on the i in a circle. Then click cookies and site data, and delete it. Then it should just delete the cache and data just for MN.

EBearhug · 13/05/2026 18:10

Even if Dane was so upset at Helen dumping him (after what? 10 months?) it's not something I woukd expect anyone to leave a job over - they weren't colleagues.

And even if he did cause him to resign... notice period, especially heading into peak holiday season...

I only deleted the cache on Mumsnet although my regular puzzles did start giving me instructions how to play again. I didn't lose any passwords.

muddyford · 13/05/2026 19:30

Thanks for that. I only did step 1 and somehow it all came back to normal. Really grateful.

LaMarschallin · 13/05/2026 19:35

I had the 400 thing. Was told to delete my Mumsnet cache but couldn't see how to just do that individually (although I think CaptainMyCaptain has now shown how) so deleted all caches.
Don't seem to have lost too much but suspect I'll find something that's gone as Gasp0de did.
I tried the app which I think is awful. However, it did enable me to see the thread on Site Stuff about this and to see one of the MN answers suggesting people email MN.
I did and got bloody 400 again!
The app is atrocious and I'm fairly sure I'd give up MN rather than struggle with it.
May be no bad thing.

muddyford · 13/05/2026 19:38

And now the 400 message is back. Will just use my 'phone for now.

LaMarschallin · 13/05/2026 19:42

@WitcheryDivine

I do feel increasingly like the archers is becoming a game of consequences with many people writing a different bit of the story and completely anticlimactic end results.

DH used to read Sexton Blake stories when he was nobbut a stripling (or some Yorkshire phrase) and said that a cartel of writers used to write them. They'd all try to leave our hero in as precarious and impossible-to-escape-from situation as they could with a "Get out of that one!" nod to the one receiving the metaphorical baton.
