Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love a couple of acquaintances to clean and tidy your house without your permission, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

What do we think - best Christmas ever followed by a nice quiet New Year? No, me neither. We have the tractor run to look forward to Hmm, and then whatever they've got lined up for the 75th anniversary of the first ever episode - New Year's Day 1951. I can't imagine that anybody involved with the programme then expected it would still be on the air 75 years later. I wonder what they would make of the current direction. The lack of farming content would be a surprise, given that was the whole reason for devising the programme in the first place.

Over to you!

He's probably going to end up with that Bad Uncle isn't he

Better to have rented him a very basic room in town for one month and dumped him there (between them all they could probably manage the rent) so he could get work in a place where nobody knows him either no transport issue.

An angry and frozen George on the prowl in Ambridge does nobody any good.

Far too sensible for either the Grundys or the editorial team, that suggestion.

I don't think Chris is trying to get Alice back (though I doubt he'd say no). The fling with Carly has shown him there's more to life than moping after his ex and being a doting dad.

But I think she realises she wants him to herself.

Eastie77Returns · 30/12/2025 12:50

I think Alice was just taken aback at Christ showing her his profile and telling her she should get on the dating app. It was all very odd and I think I’d react similarly if my ex started revealing that aspect of his private life.

Anyway Chris sounded as if he was trying to convince himself that he wants to do all this dating and he’s over Alice. He was quite hyper. Deep down he wants her back.

Re Amber and Brad: I don’t think there will be a who’s the daddy storyline as he’s too sensible to have unprotected sex (he was very careful with Mia from what I recall).

Throwing George out just didn’t sit right with my views on the Grundy’s. I can understand he’d broken ‘their’ moral code but the situation caused them to do a complete 180. Ed wasn’t there was he? Maybe he will take pity on him.

And please no suicide.

That intervention went as well as could have been expected I thought

I agree. It all seemed to be too glib and too fast, especially considering how well they have developed the storyline overall, and allowed it room to breathe until now

crumpet · 30/12/2025 13:50

oops I may have quoted the wrong poster! Apologies

TheUsualChaos · 30/12/2025 13:55

I think Alice has been slowly realising how much she misses Chris and, up until he started seeing Carly, she had assumed he would eventually ask for them them to get back together again. Now he's telling her he's actively moving on (can't blame him) and she's finally realising she's made a terrible mistake letting him go.

Look up swfarriers on Instagram. That's how I imagine Chris's profile pic 🤣 (obviously I only follow for educational purposes).

It was definitely quick, but emotions were running high. I wonder if we will find out what happened with George and Keira.
I think they would have thrown him out until Ed got home. Then got him back to plan what to do next. As a parent throwing a child out, even when they're a grown up is a last resort. He told them he is trying to get help, that would usually mean they would all want to support him.

Eddie has form for throwing people out. He did it to Ed, after all.

And Ed wouldn't dare countermand Emma's orders, would he?

SheCharter · 30/12/2025 14:36

Both parents have a younger child at home to consider. Both are young girls. B
George was deeply unpleasant about their mothers.

Agapornis · 30/12/2025 14:43

@JudyCoolibar yes I noticed the sexually aggressive/coercive behaviour too. Was quite worried for Amber and I'm glad it got interrupted.

Beyond Ed and Kenton, to me it feels like George is mainly targeting women - Keira, Fallon, Lillian, Emma, Amber - so I would expect the Big Crime to be misogynist too. Preferably killing Joy.

I suspect Amber only came back because she needed Grundy Christmas content for her socials.

Poor Brad, I'd like him to have a good debrief with Chelsea so she can warn him.

Are we heading for history repeating itself? It seemed they were keen to include that Amber and George had sex the night before and now Amber is to spend the night with Brad. Will there be a pregnancy announcement in the new year with questions over who is the father?

I didn’t think it would be possible but I felt sorry for George last night. It was all very clear cut and total 180 from everyone.

I hope Amber would have had a Mirena or implant inserted while she was away.

No. Chris is blonde in my mind and I'm not keen on all the tattoos.

He’s blonde in my mind too, as are Alice and Martha. Alice has a straight blonde bob and Kate has a curly blonde bob. Chris is maybe leaning towards a strawberry blonde and has a stubble beard. No tattoos.

I can’t call what I think is going to happen. I do think there will be a Muuuuuurrder though (Scottish accent)

Newbie to this thread . Listen on sounds , but still often get the characters mixed up .
I was really annoyed with yesterday’s episode . I agree that they totally abandoned George- when realistically that isn’t going to be what is best for him and most importantly others .
I do get people have their breaking points and that they were trying to protect other family members - but what do they expect George to do ? He won’t have much or any money .

I realise that this has been a slow burn storyline - but it was just so frustrating when they went from 0-100 in about 2 minutes .

Chris does have a tattoo, as does Alice. They had them done in Las Vegas when they got married.

Kate and Alice are blonde. Both have long hair. Chris has light brown hair, Emma dark. Ed an Will both have dark hair. Debbie had brown hair now greying. Adam and Ruairi both auburn.

Natasha definitely brunette.

Agreed. They turned on George far too quickly. It just wasn't realistic/likely.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/12/2025 15:57

Maybe the three parents remembered the last time they had a similar conversation with George and went straight back to it!

SheCharter · 30/12/2025 16:04

@Theremedy , Mairdair?
(Guess the accent)
