Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

ArchersAll views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to donate your time as a guide at Lower Loxley to save the Pargetters paying someone else a living wage, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Impostersyndrome for the thread title suggestion Buses and trains are sorely lacking, canals might be nearby, but all roads lead to Ambridge, picking up on transport discussions in the last thread. In the end I didn't use it, having in mind the character limit. @TottersBlankly contributed an early draft title Wreathes, wrath, writhing (Jennifer, Lilian, Ruairi). Both good starting points for the new thread, which I hope will last till Jennifer's funeral, surely not too far off now. So, over to you - whither the Aldridges? Also, does anyone care if Lee goes to the US? Is anyone even slightly interested in the Brookfield B&B venture?

Yes, Kate definitely said Phoebe was doing a reading. It also sounded as if Debbie is back, though I suspect she will be in silent mode.

Kate also said the window nonsense seemed trivial now, I do hope that means they're going to knock that SL on the head.

from your keyboard to SWs ears!

ILoveShula · 28/02/2023 13:54

I realised straight after that it was a bit mean to ask a question that would involve a typed answer. Sorry.
My mattress needs turning, and I need new pillows. Slept crookedly last night.
I can't say I enjoy turning the mattress and I'm not 90, and it's one of those memory foam ones.

I didn't know you were in Germany, Bref. They like their pig meat there don't they.

I hope so too.

Apologies @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I haven't even sent the blessings of the AKB fairy or thanks for the new thread. Things move so quickly!

Comfrey is amazing stuff. Wish I'd learnt earlier than you can just buy the oil. I had a very smelly experience the first time I played nurse with it. Blush (The patients injuries were real enough, only my nursing qualifications that were pretend.)

TottersBlankly · 28/02/2023 14:34

Yes - Tuckers, @ILoveShula ! Was a bit distracted.

Phoebe is the Marketing Manager for her pals’ environmental start up, isn’t she?

OverArmour · 28/02/2023 15:22

Good idea about Jazzer, that would have been a much more interesting story line.

ILoveShula · 28/02/2023 15:22

Isn't comfrey known as knitbone. I think you rub it into the skin not ingest orally. I had some cream and it was a bit smelly.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/02/2023 16:35

Chelsea drives doesn't she?

I thought that after running Blake over she took against driving and didn't go on with it.

We know that Brad bicycled to Lower Loxley when we last heard him working there, because he was on his bicycle when he encoutered Ben and Chelsea and tried unsuccessfully to land one on Ben. Perhaps Chelsea also owns a bicycle, replacement for the one stolen for William by his uncle Alf when Alf was not in Ambridge.

GoldenCupidon
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime can you put us out of our misery about what kind of business/charity arrangements LL has?

Elizabeth runs Lower Loxley Hall as a strictly for-profit business with no charity element as far as I have ever heard.

In general:
Kate said that Phoebe would be reading "the poem". We don't know which poem yet, and unless she's in the cast we probably never will.

Oh yes, we have pork products up the wazooooo

yes, my mum broke her ankle as a child, and my grandad made a warm poultice of comfrey (all chopped up and steeped in warm water) and wrapped it round her foot in a tea towel. She hated the squidgy feel of it oozing between her toes, and when it came off it looked like cold tea-leaves. And she has never drunk tea since.

"Kate said that Phoebe would be reading "the poem". We don't know which poem yet, and unless she's in the cast we probably never will."

Thank you - I missed that. I very much hope it's not a poem by an actual poet, but either one of Bert Fry's or composed for the occasion by one of the family - perhaps Xander? - in the manner of Ernie Wise's many plays what he wrote.

GoldenCupidon · 28/02/2023 17:19

Thanks @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Was it a poem that was found in Jenny's diary thing?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/02/2023 17:57

I think one of the many "author's message" bits that were read out by her children was Robert Browning's "Rabbi Ben Ezra", yes. "Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be" doesn't really seem appropriate as a reading at a funeral, when the growing old and the being together clearly isn't going to happen, but I put nothing past them.

Gonners · 28/02/2023 18:18

That's also a very long poem.

Dillydallydilly · 28/02/2023 18:47

ILoveShula · 28/02/2023 13:00

How's your hand Gasp, and how are the Gaspparents?

Surely Gasp4rents?

Xol · 28/02/2023 18:53

Is it held in trust for Freddie?

ILoveShula · 28/02/2023 19:18

@Dillydallydilly , given that the OP is Gasp not G4sp. then probably not. Smile

Thanks Asking

@Brefugee , I shall be looking at tea towels in a new light.

We now know who Sykesy is.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/02/2023 19:45

Pleased that the AKB Fairy is doing her stuff Gasp0de Smile

I am now hoping that Noddy Holder and Robert Plant will turn up as a residents at The Laurels.

ClownpantsKate · 28/02/2023 20:15

Ingesting comfrey isn’t a good idea as it is carcinogenic and not great for the liver either.

Noted. I can't apply it externally and I haven't got any comfrey anyway.

So the new chap is actually Bill Sykes - a differently-spelled version of Dickens's villain.

Thinking of Chelsea, I do volunteer guiding, though in smart casual clothes, not horrid polyester. In my case the training is ongoing as new exhibitions come along, so always something new to keep me on my toes.

The trick for Chelsea is not the knowledge, which increases with every tour and visitor questions, but having a clear voice and knowing when to shut up and not snow the visitor with stuff.

Yes. That is what we have were told shortly after Nigel's death, and the first time Russ saw the place and was impressed that Lily part-owned somewhere like that she put him right sharpish and told him her brother owned it.

FallonsNewCoat · 28/02/2023 22:12

I’m disappointed Chelsea seems to be about to go ahead with being a tour guide even though she knows it’s unpaid.

Tonight was just a filler, though, as we approach the momentous events of Friday…
