TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

As long as she doesn't get with Rex. Too much of a cliche. I'm guessing they'll be a Brighton child he's also running away from.

birdsdestiny · 21/12/2017 09:40

I think the sw think they are penning some epic dynasty where the fairbrothers influence the archers lives through the generations, they seemed to have missed the fact that NONE OF US CARE.

DeepanKrispanEven · 21/12/2017 10:52

Can you imagine the acting when Pip goes into labour (in some suitably dramatically soapy way, of course)? Kill me now.

I may have to join you jumping over the cliff. It's not just Pip, the Dopeys will carry on as if no women has ever gone through labour before and will treat her as some unbelievably brave heroine. They really need to kill off Pip and her parents to release us from the hell to come.

DeepanKrispanEven · 21/12/2017 10:53

Was anyone else thinking that Alan just needs to point out to Lynda that her portrayal of the Wicked Fairy with an Mitteleuropean accent is just a tad racist?

Puremince · 21/12/2017 11:10

Or ask Lynda to stop hamming it up. Surely the suggestion that she is a ham actor would make her pause.

Will the audience think that Lynda is playing the role for laughs? How will Lynda feel if the audience laughs at her?

RockNRollNerd · 21/12/2017 12:23

If anyone ever fancies a television version of R4, look at the channel NHK (507 on Sky) - it's a Japanese channel (in English) and does the kind of fascinating documentaries you stumble across on R4, totally absorbing stuff that you'd never make the effort to watch but get drawn into when flicking through the channels.

Tom's a silent character at the moment as he is in the rather good Young Marx at the Bridget Theatre - I went to the live broadcast a couple of weeks ago; he's in the supporting cast but I didn't clock him as Tom until I read the program (and I'm normally very good at recognising voices, crap at facial recognition - it's kind of a compensatory sense according to DH). If you get a chance to see it before it closes at the end of December or at an encore screening it's highly recommended.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/12/2017 12:44

RockNRollNerd I'm not surprised you didn't recognise him - new Tom is soooo bland. I often don't clock it's him till someone says his name

WoodenCat · 21/12/2017 15:51

Surely Pip’s labour will be covered in the same way as lambing / calving? I’m imaging James Herriot style with a bucket of hot soapy water and ropes to put round the hooves, before the fresh-born offspring is given to the mother to lick clean? Then everyone can have a flask of coffee and move on (please god).

HatingTheBigShow · 21/12/2017 18:18

David will act as midwife in the cow sheds, adding a whole new level of weirdness to their relationship.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 21/12/2017 19:18

Mystic Bore™️ predicts that Harrison is going to arrest Justin at the wedding Xmas Grin

Bekabeech · 21/12/2017 19:44

I think Lilian and Justin get married and that pre-nup is very important.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 21/12/2017 19:51

Well, Harrison's, definitely got him in his sights. But the final line about it being a wedding to remember seemed to be a pretty strong signal.

And yes, pre-nup will be important.

So, he gets arrested after the wedding then.

Really though, who leaves their hen party to dash off a quick pre-nuptial agreement, presumably without the assistance of a solicitor?

extinctspecies · 21/12/2017 20:19

Maybe she downloaded the prenup from the internet?

RolfNotRudolf · 21/12/2017 20:46

Why was Harrison even invited to the stag? And why did he go - blurring professional lines surely?

TheAntiBoop · 21/12/2017 20:48

Harrison is a plod of limited imagination

cheminotte · 21/12/2017 21:28

Slightly behind as usual . I did love Lynda's faux pas at Susan's time doing time.

Fink · 21/12/2017 22:01

Lillian said that her solicitor had drawn up the pre-nup, that was why she had to hang on for the email to come through.

Why do you all think it would be important? Do you think she gets screwed over or something or will it save her by protecting her assets frmo Justin? Showing my extremely limited understanding of what a pre-nup actually does.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 21/12/2017 23:13

Dunno Fink. But it will be relevant, I feel sure.

C8H10N4O2 · 22/12/2017 00:05

Showing my extremely limited understanding of what a pre-nup actually does

IANAL but I thought pre-nups had no status in English law and at best could be considered by a court and not enforced. May be different in Scotland.
It seemed ridiculous. Justin has not been drawn as someone who signs a random contract without the lawyers checking. I assume its going to be deep and meaningful at some point due to the faff around it.

Mostly though - a couple of Pip free episodes. Just about any rubbish is an improvement!

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2017 00:07

What happened about the Dower House? Who got the money?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 22/12/2017 00:28

The mystery of the sale of the Dower House really bugs me.

Pre-nups in Scotland are enforceable as long as they are reasonable and the parties had separate legal advice.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 22/12/2017 00:32

Lillian said that her solicitor had drawn up the pre-nup, that was why she had to hang on for the email to come through

I expect the English position is the same as Scotland- to be enforceable both parties need separate legal advice. Although Lillian seems to have found a solicitor happy to draw one where Lillian is giving away her rights.

How ridiculous was it that Harrison was at the poker game? Even if Harrison hadn't been contemplating arresting Justin Justin is far too much of a snob to invite him.

DeepanKrispanEven · 22/12/2017 00:34

I predict Lynda's going to get a terrible review in the Borsetshire Echo off that critic that she either loves or hates depending on how he reviewed her last production.

mumblechum0 · 22/12/2017 01:06

The prenup is invalid. Must be at least 3 weeks gap between signing and wedding and both parties must have separate legal advice (IAAL)

Gruach · 22/12/2017 02:26

But we didn't hear Justin signing it anyway, did we? He just said he would.

Perhaps he didn't ...
