TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

I‘m pretty sure Ma Fairbrother was with child when Pa FB was shagging Elizabeth, so which FB was the foetus, Toby or Rex?
As for the rest of the show, l cba even commenting. I keep listening but can‘t summon the energy to care that much what happens to any of them. Please do play nicely though, kids.

TheAntiBoop · 19/12/2017 16:32

I don't think it's all bad

It's just the pip crap I can't bear. I don't think there's anything wrong with being negative about that.

Quite happy to be positive about other bits ,the panto, frilly, brine

ppeatfruit · 19/12/2017 16:41

Ref. Quinces I LOVE them, I failed at growing a quince tree last year and I'm sad. I made a lovely (sugar free for dh ) quince and prune jam with prune juice in the autumn. It was fabulous.

pigletpie29 · 19/12/2017 17:46

I have to mention this as it's driving me mad - Shula definitely ran over Matt Crawford, right? All the 'oh you've been so depressed since the hunt ball' stuff is being laid on rather thickly...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/12/2017 18:49

Re Anisha - it was a smallish part in the last series of Line of Duty. I didn't get any sense that she was likely to feature more in the future.

Re the Food Programme - I frequently find it very up itself, but this week's wasn't. It was interesting stuff about how the government decided that Cheddar was the best cheese to use for the cheese ration during WW1 because it doesn't crumble, so when cut up into very small ration pieces there was little waste, which would have been an issue for Lancashire or Cheshire or Wensleydale. Unfortunately along the way the cheesemaking process became more industrial and a lot of the diversity of the product was lost.

Another interesting fact - there was a point when the US exported Cheddar to the UK in huge quantities but they shot themselves in the foot by trying to do it on the cheap and using vegetable oil instead of butterfat, which tasted vile, and so the demand fell away. Here's hoping that the British public would still refuse cheap food if it tasted awful so that the predicted influx of chemical washed chicken doesn't materialise.

Oh good Lord!

I love Ed but - seriously? No one could be this stupid ...

HatingTheBigShow · 19/12/2017 20:19

Gruach, I'm with you, what a moron. It seems that Adam was right in his first choice of candidate.

Puremince · 19/12/2017 20:52

I'm enjoying Linda being a nightmare during panto rehearsals. She wouldn't have put up with that behaviour when she was directing.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/12/2017 21:04

Pigletpie I'm not sure. Justin's denial the other night wasn't very convincing was it?

pigletpie29 · 19/12/2017 21:06

I think that might just be the acting...

JessieMcJessie · 19/12/2017 22:08

Yes, Annika Rose has a very minor supporting role is season 4 of Line of Duty (mostly handing over files and saying “here you go Guv”). Season 5 won’t be shown till 2019 and Jed Mercurio saidbin an interview in October that he hadn’t started writing it yet. So can’t be that which is taking up “Anisha’s” time.

JessieMcJessie · 19/12/2017 22:12

“My Dad and Grandad always worked for themselves”
“They lost the farm”
“Yeah but...they always had their freedom.”

What a moron. Who does he think he is, Braveheart?

The only Grundy who ever did well was Will because, surprise surprise, he got himself an actual job and stuck at it (he was doing OK before the Unequal Inheritance).

Mootsie · 19/12/2017 22:26

Pip should do what the Yorkshire Shepherdess does. Whenever she has another baby (I think she has nine now) she just straps it in a papoose and goes back to work on the farm.

Ruth and David would then be running round after her constantly telling her how proud they are that she can milk a herd and feed her own baby at the same time Grin

HatingTheBigShow · 19/12/2017 22:36

Snorting at "Braveheart"!

TheAntiBoop · 19/12/2017 22:38

Total doughnut

Emma's never going to get a house

JessieMcJessie · 19/12/2017 22:39

Is anyone else not seeing this thread in their “Threads I’m on”’or in the top threads in “Radio Addicts”? I can only get to it by clicking the link at the end of the previous thread.

Vango · 19/12/2017 22:49

Well. I can hardly believe the lack of comment! Emma, who had a massive rant at Johnny last week for 'taking the job that should have been Ed's' listening patiently while the absolute idiot spouted that rubbish! How many working people in real life have the luxury of loving what they do? His 'freedom'? Totally in character. Both of them.

R4 · 19/12/2017 22:52

TIO and Radio Addicts working for me on the laptop.

Emma will get a house eventually (maybe not one of Justin's 'affordables' but) she's her mother's daughter.

JessieMcJessie · 19/12/2017 22:56

Thanks R4. I’m on iPhone, mobile site.

HatingTheBigShow · 19/12/2017 23:00

I actually thought Emma played it well - she knew he was talking bollocks but that insisting he took the job would backfire, so suggesting he go back and ask for money could be a win-win.

birdsdestiny · 19/12/2017 23:16

Yes Emma knows she is dealing with an arse of a man so she has to proceed with caution.
I don't think shula ran over Matt, I assume we are building up to an affair with the builder bloke.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/12/2017 23:43

Ooh birds I'd forgotten about that! Yes, she was flinging herself at BuilderBloke, wasn't she. Gah, St Smugula has always been such a hypocrite.

C8H10N4O2 · 19/12/2017 23:51

Yes Emma knows she is dealing with an arse of a man so she has to proceed with caution

Pander to a self indulgent manchild?

Emma, who takes no prisoners where anyone else is concerned loses all sense of reality where Ed is concerned. He is a chip off the old block, Emma is destined to be Clarrie. Working her socks off only to be let down repeatedly unless Ed is visited by the PTF. She works three jobs including nights in the chicken factory whilst he follows his 'dreams'.

birdsdestiny · 20/12/2017 06:41

Well I would leave him but I don't think that's an easy option for Emma. I don't think she indulged him, she just told him he was an arse in a gentle way.
I think both him and Eddie are spectacularly unkind men but I think Carrie and Emma have limited means of escape.
I know it's not real honestly.
