Bunting? the Bull? An Eggmobile? Other Ambridge crime-scenes? Potential emoticon?

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 30/03/2016 17:45

Have C&P Dad's "vote" count on the POTENTIAL emoticon, don't want to hijack another thread but wondered what the thoughts were?

A Tom Archer Sausage maybe?

I go for bull (even though), bunting and pitchfork.

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 07:31

cutted - did you click on this thread from the link in my post in the other thread? Because I added this thread to my watch list, that flag is in the hyperlink meaning it should add it to anyone else's watch list when they click. (Sorry, wasn't deliberate on my part)

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 07:34

Anyway, some of the recent comments on the other thread suggest to me that a pub / pub-sign emoticon celebrating or encouraging harmony and community spirit would be useful.

PseudoBadger · 31/03/2016 08:02

But surely it could be offensive to those who choose not to go to pubs Wink Grin

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 09:06

I think if you are someone who finds mere references to pubs offensive then much of MN is going to leave you in a state of shock. Grin

cheminotte · 31/03/2016 09:09

Pub sign please

R4 · 31/03/2016 09:27

Can we have negative-votes, Mr Returning Officer? I don't want TA represented by Knobishness, especially because he is (I hope) a transitory character. I'm also not keen on TA being represented by Kenton, though I suppose he is only currently at The Bull and it will be there long after he has gone.

If we are going bovine then I would like a cow emoticon, rather than a bull, to denote someone acting as a CowPat - unbelievable, not thinking straight, out of character.

But I still like bunting best.

bakeoffcake · 31/03/2016 09:29

Oh I like the idea of a CowPat. A big steaming oneGrin

MargieBargie · 31/03/2016 09:42

What about a target? Encapsulates bull(seye) and archery. Could be used across the boards as a sort of approving "Yes! Bullseye!" comment.

Also - speaking as a graphic designer - quite easy to make a small emoticon of it. Nice and round.

R4 · 31/03/2016 09:57

That's neat Margie. But D^3 only accepts assertive suggestions, not meek and tentative ones. So, on your behalf:

I propose an archery target, as outlined by Margie.

R4 · 31/03/2016 09:59

I think I am currently supporting about four different designs.Blush This meaningful artistry stuff is tricky. I so empathise with Lynda.

MargieBargie · 31/03/2016 10:17

Oh God, you're right! So hard not to be apologetic for one's very being.

I propose a target! Thanks R4 for your support Wink

redshoeblueshoe · 31/03/2016 10:30

As 3^D is currently sitting in the naughty corner having a sulk I suggest that we have a [milk bottle] in recognition of his work as milk monitor and statistician to TA threads Smile

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 10:40

I'm not sulking, but since this thread started I've given up trying to record votes, as I think it's kind of reached committee stage, and it's up to the President to take forward our recommendations. It feels to me like the possibilities with some broad support are:

  • Bull / Bull sign which has kind of morphed into a suggestion of a general pub / pub sign.
  • Bunting
  • Vampire / Plarcher Rob

I note pitchfork, tractor and manure have their supporters.

A target (bull's-eye / archer pun) is very clever - does it trump (see what I did there?) all other ideas?

redshoeblueshoe · 31/03/2016 10:57

OK 3^D I didn't get as far as the Hokey Cokey.

Now I have I take the sulking remark back Blush

CuttedUpPear · 31/03/2016 11:02

Yes Dx3 I did but that's still weird!

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 11:09

shoes - don't worry about it. I'll take this opportunity to point out one minor niggle: I think my name is better abbreviated D3 (as that mathematically is DDD) rather than 3D. But, don't worry, I answer to pretty much anything with a 3 and a D in! Smile

WorkingClassAndNotAThief · 31/03/2016 11:10

Grin R4

redshoeblueshoe · 31/03/2016 12:27

OK D^3 and you can call me red.

Is it too late for another suggestion ? I've just been thinking [gate]

like yellow 2 towel gate which is happening on the main thread, or for when any issue develops a life of its own, and overtakes any normal conversation

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 12:33

OK, red, glad to be on first-name terms. Grin

I suspect that it is getting late for new suggestions. And after all this, we still don't know if we are even getting an emoticon - not "POTENTIAL" in Olivia's OP. How are new emoticons created - is there a large library out there, or do MNHQ have someone artistic who knocks them up for them.

Kr1stina · 31/03/2016 12:34

I'd never have guessed you were an actuary D^3 Wink

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 12:34

*"note" rather than "not"

DadDadDad · 31/03/2016 12:36

Ah, but Kr1stina, what's your sample size? Smile How many actuaries have you met or are you basing your expectations on a stereotype?

Kr1stina · 31/03/2016 12:48

Of course it's based in a stereotype ! Don't be silly

Kr1stina · 31/03/2016 13:14

This is you, right ?
