Clearly DS' baths have meant I've missed more than I realised. Last time I heard from these 2 they were at it like rabbits every time I turned the radio on. Now she's moving to Canada? How did that happen?

One of my favourite Archer facts is that the actor who plays David has a seat in the House of Lords.

HumphreyCobbler · 11/03/2013 10:16

Seeker that made me google him. He was also the voice of Mind The Gap! He seems really clever too.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 10:26

I know someone who knows him Grin Apparently he's nice. But me, I say THERE IS NO CAST.

OliviaMumsnet · 11/03/2013 10:35

Pat is related to my SIL no less!

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 10:47

So y'all better be nicer about Pat because Olivia is related to her so there Grin You mean Archer haters you Grin After all Hayley didn't HAVE to work for nothing did she? (I have a very hazy recollection of the storyline!).

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 10:50

No she could have let the pigs die. Obviously in hindsight that's what she should have done. She didn't do Tom any favours by helping to turn him into a worse (if possible) version of John.

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 10:59

Oh they would have died no one else was there to do it then ?Shock

Songbird · 11/03/2013 11:24

Can someone talk me through 'Hayley and the Pigs', please? I started listening not long after Nigel died (I think) so there's a lot I don't know.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 11:30

Well, nobody else WAS doing it, were they? Tom was still at school. Pat was practically catatonic. Tony was running the farm tout seul.

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 11:46

Russians Sorry to sound dense Miss Grin as I said upthread I wasn't listening properly at the time.Of course it was after the death of John wasn't it?

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 11:48

Just another thought John had also two timed Hayley hadn't he? Shock yeah a nasty bunch of tossers.

seeker · 11/03/2013 11:50

There was Sharon. Who had the baby that P and T were all worked up about before Christmas, and who, like so many things Archer, has just vanished into the ether.

OliviaMumsnet · 11/03/2013 11:54

You mean, when Ambridge was shaken to the core Hmm

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 12:03

Yes seeker thanks - Sharon. No he hasn't disappeared completely they did talk about exchanging cards and presents at Xmas with their 'other' grandson.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 12:05

John lived with Hayley but he lived FOR his pigs. Until he cheated on Hayley with his ex sharon, and Hayley found out and dumped him, and then he realised that actually Hayley was his life so he dumped Sharon and pined after Hayley and proposed to her on Valentiines day and she said no and the Fergie killed him (poor old Fergie).

It was desperately sad, actually. I can still hear Tony discovering him. I was up-duffed myself at the time and emotional anyway. V sad so it was. I don't even like Tony. Or John. But there you go.

When John's body was found (by Tony. So sad) everything when tits up obviously because John not only did the pigs he was his dad's right hand man, Pat went catatonic practically (and who can blame her) Helen refused to come home for ages and so Hayley and Tom and Roy, in the beginning, rallied round to help keep the pig business going because it was John's thing. He had set it up from scratch, he hadn't just taken over something his dad had been doing for years. It was his baby and Hayley didn't want to see it die like he had (she still loved him). Roy bailed out very quickly, he was working shifts at the country club as it was. Tom did everything he could but ultimately he was still at school. Hayley was a complete hero and was treated like shit by Pat and Tony when Helen eventually came home and started dripping the poison in their ears.

The Sharon baby story was very well done actually, because we knew she was pregnant by John not long after he died. She came back to Ambridge - presumably to tell him - found out he was dead, flew into a rage with Pat for not telling her, Pat was vile (no change there) and Sharon started to tell her and then turned round and walked away. so we had been waiting about 14 years for that one to come home to roost.

Poor old Hayley - it took her ages to get over John. when Roy proposed to her she went to John's grave to tell him she still loved him but had to move on now. It was very sad. John never deserved her.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 12:07

Incidentally Helen didn't get sick because of John, it was after Greg topped himself.

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2013 12:17

Thanks Thanks Russians it's coming back to me now.

seeker · 11/03/2013 12:18

Ooh, who remembers Roy being racist at Usha?

Another example of Ambridge Personality Transplant Syndrome. (APTs)

Fantastic summary, Russian. Helen really is a cow, and always has been.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 11/03/2013 12:33

Actually, I think that bit of the Roy story was well done. He got in with a bad crowd, was ignorant and easily led, but then realised exactly what he had become and changed. It was good. A strong message there for the sort of person who today thinks that 'UKIP might have a point'......the slippery slope, deconstructed. With diagrams.

Tallgiraffe · 11/03/2013 12:41

Thanks Russians, excellent summary!

So after last night's slight improvement are we going for Chris not being deaded but disabled? Leaving the floor free for Paul to be killed off with much angst from L?

Thinking about TA is so much more interesting than thinking about what I'm supposed to be thinking about at the moment! Grin

Songbird · 11/03/2013 12:57

Ooh yes, thanks. I do hate the Bridge Farm crowd!

Abra1d · 11/03/2013 13:21

'Pat is related to my SIL no less!'

Pat read two of the audio abridgments of some novels I wrote and she was wonderful. When I listened to one of them I kept expecting her to break off and ask Tony to take something out to the dairy. It was nice of her to give up the time on the farm, I felt.

OldBeanbagz · 11/03/2013 13:23

Ooh, just been on the Radio Times website, reading the daily one liners for The Archers this week.

I'm saying nothing [zipped mouth]

Abra1d · 11/03/2013 13:23

Oh!
