Babystyle Oyster Max Tandem

I have just spotted information for the new Babystyle Oyster Max tandem and I am sooooooooooooooooo excited that I had to come and share!

Its got a small wheelbase so will be great on public transport - no more gondola's!

It comes with two car seats, and can take two carrycots and two car seats. So will be suitable for twins. It is bought as a 2 seat pushchair, but my assumption is that given there are car seat and carrycot options that it could also be used as a single pushchair.

I am jumping up and down and squeeeing at this pushchair because it seems like the dream! I can't wait to see more about the combinations and how it all works.

I was told the Oyster Max is due out this summer.

Can you tell I love it???!!

Minipie you're clutching at straws now, it's too big to buy as a single for what you want to use it for! Have we talked Oyster Gem though?!?!

minipie · 27/09/2012 15:50

You are of course right parties Grin

Gem is a three wheeler which puts me off, lots of going up and down kerbs around here so I thought 4 wheels better for that... am I wrong?

Tiggywunkle · 27/09/2012 17:15

Arrrghhhh I have had another report of the June being nigh impossible to get up a kerb. I am gutted :(((((
It seemed so perfect.....
But this is why you can't trust reviews done in an office ;) You NEED to get out and use a pushchair to find out about it!!

Oyster Max meanwhile.....seems very good. Fold on the one hand is small ie the seats fold into small clam shells and the chassis is small until you put the wheels on and then its fairly chunky but light and easy / logical to carry. I have had issues finding a logical way to put the Max into my car boot because the clamshell seats simply slide off each other / are rounded. I have discovered that opening the main seat and then putting the folded lower seat fits better. If I had a huge boot I could simply throw things into then it wouldn't be a problem - but I can't!

Yes....both kidywinks fit in. At first I thought theres NO way my 4 year old-in-6-days-time would fit into such a tiny seat but amazingly she does! The hood slides up the chassis like the Peach seat and there is a lower footrest on the chassis and TBH she looks great in the seat. Not bad to say she's tall - 105cms.
The toddler can face outwards with the baby underneath. Photos here
Its easy to push - and believe me this is about at maximum weight. I had to stop DH whizzing the Max across grass and up grassy hills because he was keen to demo how easy it is to push! It didn't like our gravel so much - so I would stick to pavements - although to be fair it was fine on the gravel when DH wasn't driving!!
Its over a third - almost half the price of the Peach Blossom. BUT you can tell the difference in quality. Dont get me wrong because the Oyster Max is really excellent and especially great value for money - but there is a difference between the Peach and Oyster Max. But its not "cheap" feeling like the Kidz Kargo Duellette. I have no worries about spending my money on an Oyster Max. I think the Oyster Max will fill the huge gap between the cheap and expensive tandems really well. Its no different to where the colour pack Oyster sits in relation to the single Peach if that makes sense? If it doesn't, then go and see the two side by side. Its really well priced.

I am a tiny bit relieved the June isn't perfect as from a completely selfish point of view it was causing me a real dilemma...!

Your DCs look like they are loving the Max!

Tiggywunkle · 27/09/2012 18:42

My youngest was sooo excited! I couldn't sleep the night before either! I love it!

LOL re the June not being perfect....I can't believe it was almost there but not quite....

Ah but it means the quest can continue Wink

I have been looking at the concord wanderer but when I got down to it I figured it was basically a beefed up Jane Muum, which is almost identical to my Twone so on that basis I may as well just keep that as a single. I want a small terrain pushchair dammit.

Oh... one that goes up curbs Hmm

Anyone who has been reading my woffle will know that I love the Mutsy Evo - the Oyster Max is very like the Mutsy Evo and to have a Mutsy Evo that turns into a tandem is brilliant.

I have to say after a day where we have been in and out of the car, and also have done a good walk, I LOVE the Oyster Max as a tandem. It pushes superbly even fully loaded. I don't like the lack of storage space, but we did manage to get a basket of shopping home by being creative with a J.L. Childress net bag and other bags attached all over!

As a single pushchair the seat unit feels a long way from the child - it is very very like the Mutsy Evo in that respect. But the Oyster Max is a tandem too, so you accept that minor detail.

I have to say, I loved my Peach Blossom 2, but the Oyster Max is excellent and easily will compete with the Peach Blossom 2 - but at a lower price.
