A sturdy pram/pushchair is required

I need it to have swivel/lockable wheels, and be good in snow/mud as well as on paths.
It needs to be able to carry milk plus fruit and other bits of shopping (so strong)
It will be used alot, but not put in the car very often.
I would ideally like a rear facing option but definately from new born.
I like the Jane Slalom but new they are too expensive (DH not keen on second hand from ebay) Hmm
I have the old stylee mothercare urban detour which I really like, but getting a carrycot for them is like getting blood out of a stone.

I have seen (on an ebay shop) the Hauck Icoo platon.
Are they any good?
What say you?

I had the i'coo platoon.It remains the best made pushchair i've ever owned..but i wouldnt recommend it. Jeeez is heavy..and the front wheel does not spin it kind of tilts, making tight cornering impossible. I couldnt imagine pushing it through snow...

Oh right, it says in the description they are lockable swivel wheels.

What would you recommend? Am back to square one now.

perhaps they have changed? show me the link and i'll have a look. I loved the pushchair..and the actual seat was gorgeous. But i loved my inglesina zippy better Smile

but the fact it weighs 15.5kg without a quickly growing baby would still put me off...

the urban detour is 14kg, and I'm ok with that.

Twit the Trenton deluxe is okay my friend has one but it quite bulky for what it is and TBH it is not much better than a stroller once the carrycot is outgrown.

The Silver Cross Linear is fab, big wheels and reversible seat which lays flat for a carrycot look.

Only issue is it is expensive and it folds in seperate pieces. You can buy from Ebay quite cheaply though (as in £120 or so).

Silver Cross Linear also has a big basket, if I had another DC I would want this for walking and it can actually eb used ona bus here without too much issue.

Mura is nice but massive, although usable IYKWIM.

i have the i'coo platon (4 wheel version) that i was going to chuck on ebay if you'd like first refusal???

it's lovely. but it is heavy. that's only an issue if you're putting it in and out of the car though. it's NICE to push around and doesn't feel heavy to push

Get a second hand Mountain Buggy. They are indestructible, fabmfor walking, good basket, swivel wheel. But they are heavy - absolute monsters.

The first pram that came to mind was the Maxi Mura. Nice sturdy pram if you're not going to fold it often.

Size doesn't really matter (lol) I'm used to the Urban Detour and I like it. I need the strength and basket space.
I have been eyeing up the Silvercross one.
Actually I am beginning to bore myself Wink

Get a Mountain Buggy (second hand are really reasonable) and get the carrycot for the new born (facing you).
Then the baby will have to be forward facing when 6 months or so.

And I don't think they are really heavy, at least not in "pushing" mode... You can push them with one finger, so if not getting in or out of the car a lot they are great (have locked the wheels in snow/mud/sand etc)

There's a maxi mura on amazon, does the seat fully recline for a newborn or do you need the carrycot as well?

I've got a Bebe Confort High Trek complete with car seat and carrycot that we are thinking of selling.

It has a swivel or lockable front wheel, and can be used from birth with the carry cot.

well they do both, kind of.
they don't swivel all the way round, and they tilt as they swivel.
i've never had a problem with it... it goes round corners lol

Mountain Buggy is the sturdiest I've had, and the easiest to push.
Maxi mura seat unit isn't very big and I'd worry about it lasting into toddlerhood

I'll scrap the mura then. I'm drawn to the mountain buggy. Actually I like all the three wheelers here.

I have a while to go yet, so please go ahead and sell (good luck). Your opinions are much appreciated though!

DH decided today that he isn't keen on getting a second hand one. Me, I don't care. Maybe once he realises the price of the brand new ones he'll come round.

We had the Firstwheels City Elite for DD, admittedly it was 3 years ago but they still sell them.. infact they've had a bit of a makeover.
It stood up to miles of walking. DH would do a couple of miles up and down the hill everyday to town with DD and the shopping. We did start getting milk delivered to save him carrying that in the basket underneath but everything else went in there or the nappy bag on the handle. Did plenty of walking on canals, round the countryside etc.
Really manoeuvrable, my Dad preferred it to SIL's bugaboo.

It's rear facing, but not from newborn unless you get the carrycot (which we have and used instead of a moses basket too.) Also takes maxi-cosi car seats with adaptors.

DC2 is due this autumn and with a quick wash down the pram will be put into use again.

Oh and we got loads of comments from people saying how nice it was :)

easywalker qtro is very sturdy feeling, lovely to push and had lockable wheels. the seat is large so it won't get grown out of quickly. It comes with a basinet and fits a car seat too.

An Emmaljunga Classic pram would be good. They have massive baskets underneath and they go through snow, mud, rough terrain really well and even beaches. The carrycot is massive and the seat unit is flat enough for a newborn but you can get a big 4y/o in it.

I love mine (£50 in local paper!) and it's a dream to push - it just takes a little time to get used to turning - you have to push down slightly on the handle to lift up the front wheels to turn.

I have one like this one.

If your DP is insistent on buying new do you have a budget for it?

There is a pushchair made by Jane and pretty much the same as the Slalom but cheaper here for £200 including footmuff and raincover but I am not sure if it takes a carrycot.

Jane SLalom R for £340 not cheap but a good pushchair.

Or ofcourse there is one on Ebay at the moment which looks brand new (3 months old) and costs £221 inc delivery :o
