Possible to buy just a Pushchair frame?

I have a mama and papas pramette from ds1 which was ok but I wish I had got a travel system instead. Can't afford a new pram but we are looking into a new car seat as I hated the mama and papas one. I was heavy, difficult to use and ds looked really uncomfortable in it.

I am just wondering if I could pick up a cheap pram frame that the car seat could clip onto. Second hand or something. I was forever disturbing ds because I had to take him out of his car seat and put him in his pram.

Anyone done this? Is it worth it or even possible?

Where abouts are you OP?? Ds is just coming out of his maxi cosi seat and base and it has been so so brill, just plonk car seat on the base no messing around which I will be selling now. Then I used adaptors on a cam chasis or the carrycot if I was going to be out for a while. I also have a frog I am selling that you could use?? The zapp is a fab idea, I bought a zapp frame and asaptors for that very reason and you can get your pram in the buggy too.

neepsntatties · 31/12/2010 19:45

I am in central Scotland so probably not near you. I would be interested in the zapp frame, any idea how much it would be to post?

I didn't even know I could do that with the pramette! I wouldn't have done it anyway though as I never took the car seat out of the car as it was too much hassle.

Is the Graco not a good car seat to get then? It is soooo much cheaper than the maxi cosi!

The most important thing is that the car seat fits well in your car - not all car seats give a good fit in all cars.

I'm not up to date on the latest safety reports, have a google and see what's on the internet.

IAmReallyFabNow · 31/12/2010 21:02

We bought a Britax pram wheels thingy which came with a carrycot and then the car seat. We didn't bother with the pushchair bit as we were getting a umbrella buggy. We still have it though no more babies are due Grin.

onadietcokebreak · 31/12/2010 21:04

You can get A maxi cosi cheap on boots.com at mo. There us a 20% off code somewhere too. Will try and find

onadietcokebreak · 31/12/2010 21:09

PCTA97 but it may have expired.

Seller nursery value on eBay has some good deals. Nothing at mo though

neepsntatties · 31/12/2010 22:58

Just realised that the graco doesn't go with the zapp, am being a spanner. Will check out boots thanks. Also will play lottery tomorrow so I don't need to stress about all this!

OP posts:
onadietcokebreak · 31/12/2010 23:27

Code still working and you can get a red one for £75. Bet I can't replicate that deal when we need one!

Think it expires today though!

carrielou2007 · 01/01/2011 09:16

The Boots code does not work online but if you ring up they will amend the order for you as I have just done this. I have just ordered the maxi cosi xr for dd who is almost 4 so her brother can go in her maxi cosi tobi. Best car seats ever - provided they fit in your car.

I don't have the zapp now sorry, I meant I had one when ds was tiny to leave in the car but you can pick them up very cheap on ebay. You could even then sell off the covers to get a bit back.

The base of the maxi cosi is just so easy to use, the base stays in place and the seat literally plonks on. Soo handy and easy if it is raining/dd running around etc and you know it is fitted right every time as there are colour fitting guides to show you.

John Lewis alos had lots of maxi cosi reduced as we went in there to check dd for weight/height in the seat then went online for the best deal.

onadietcokebreak · 01/01/2011 09:46

The code still works for me. Are you in parenting club carrielou?

carrielou2007 · 01/01/2011 10:05

Yep, have used it a few times already too Blush but online it gives me the extra points but not the 20% off but just rang up and they sorted it Smile

neepsntatties · 01/01/2011 12:13

Ah I have got myself into a muddle over this, don't know whether to just get the graco car seat and base and forget about the zapp or get the zapp with maxi cosi seat and base which is much more expensive but more appealing! I guess I need to go down to mothercare and play around with them. I feel I need to decide quickly if I am going to catch things in the sales etc.

i liked the graco seat and base, but with the base i found it sat very upright.
the maxi-cosi lies almost flat,

you could go for a cheap graco travel system so you have a pushchair it clips onto if you need that.

i bought a lovely graco travel system brand new for £90 and got a new base on ebay for £20. its very easy to clip carseat in and out of both car and pushchair x

neepsntatties · 01/01/2011 17:00

I might look into that too, what travel system did you have?

OP posts:
sazm · 01/01/2011 17:43

it was a graco aerosport,i liked it,it was very compact and lightweight but had good suspension and was well padded x

suzie38 · 01/01/2011 20:30

The Aerosport also goes under the name Metrosport as well...I had one and i loved it, only sold it as i had 15+ pushchairs and i need space back, to sell the house...It's a dream to push, so light it almost glides...Massive basket with secret pockets...Great snack tray for toddlers...Pretty cheap to pick up on eBay...I liked the car seat as well but as someone else said, the seat was rather upright in the car though that might vary with different car models but it was fine before i used the base.

sazm · 02/01/2011 10:28

the graco base has a wee coloured indicator so you can see if=ts at the right angle, but when mine was adjusted 'correctly' it was really upright.

can you not get the base for the mamas and papas carseat you have?

seems a shame to buy a travel system if you like the pilko?

neepsntatties · 02/01/2011 11:24

I hate the piliko. The pram is alright but don't love it. Really regret buying it in the first place. I have a base for the car seat but still need to do lots of clipping of seat belts and jarring the handle in so it is pointless. I might have to make do though, going to get to mothercare and have a play around I think.

OP posts:
sazm · 02/01/2011 11:42

ah so a travel system would be a good ides for you,
graco ones are usually cheaper, but still very good quality i think.

the advantage of a graco over the maxi-cosi cabrio and zapp frame are:
cost,
you would have a nice travel system you like,
if you only have a zapp frame, you would be limited to how long you could go out for - you would have to take the pilko just incase.

with the graco you can stick the carseat on,but if for any reason you will be out with buggy for more than a few hours you can put baby in the pushchair part.
the quattro tour ones are nice (CHEAP secondhand) as they have a soft carrycot so baby can face you.
you could sell your pilko too, that would help with cost etc x

sazm · 02/01/2011 11:49

first one looks like a good buy,and you can add the autobase to the package :)

neepsntatties · 02/01/2011 11:50

Good plan, I will go and see if I can have a look at the graco travel system them and play around with it. At least that way I am getting a new pram too as well as a car seat.

Soooo many nice prams out there, gosh you can fair spend some money can't you.

OP posts:
sazm · 02/01/2011 13:41

yeah, worst thing is buying a new one and discovering its not right for you, the graco's are pretty good though, and the prices on ebay are pretty good considering the extras you get with it (and the fact a maxi-cosi carseat is £100 ish)

happyfairy · 02/01/2011 20:07

could you sell the one youve got to raise some cash?

mothercare do a couple of ownbrand puschair packages that are made by graco - trenton and curve?

JLK gives you 10% off and join the baby and me club and they email you a 25 poud off voucher - alternativly bet you can get a cheaper one on ebay
