Is this beautiful or naff beyond words?

this

Its for the hallway of our new house, which is very light and quite large, and I have this vision of a dramatic ceiling light as the focal point. With soft cream walls and wooden floor.

But it is entirely possible, as this home refurbishing and redecorating thing is completely new to me, that I have no taste whatsoever.

Please advise!

Whatever you get make sure it's cleanable or it will always look crap.

Hmm good point about being cleanable, and about the weight of it for the cieling, as well. Those sistemi di Luce ones are amazing, real statement pieces, but with prices to match I can't see me being able to convince DH. He balked at £150.

I think you should get this one beacause it's beautiful - might be a bit over budget though

This is a bit more reasonably priced and I think it's lovely

Oops I messed up the second link

notasize10yetbutoneday · 28/05/2010 09:46

Sidge what are you doing?! I LOVE the first one. That is just so striking. And, er, completely over budget. I wonder if something like that would date quickly? That was my thinking behind going for a more traditional one.

I definitely prefer the one in your second link to the one in my OP.

I do love the Marks and Spencer one (up thread) as well, I bet it would be a bugger to clean though.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry it's just so beautiful and I can't afford it so want someone else to buy it and invite me round for tea so I can admire it!

Go on, get it, sell a kidney or a child or summat

notasize10yetbutoneday · 28/05/2010 10:27

Oh okay then...since you asked so nicely...and it is on sale....If only!

Do not over look BHS lighting!

Um, difficult. It's pedestrian, I think is the best thing I can say! For me, if it's new and shiny it should be design led and modernernist in stule with simple celan lines. If it's something in a traditional or period style should preferably actually be old, or at least be a very very good reproduction. This is a kind of no man's land of repro/trad shape in modern finish.
