HELP!! I need a project manager to manage the actual build

well I think I do

thanks to our nightmare neighbour, we have had to put back our building plans by several months and they are due to start in the next few weeks

unfortunately, because of the delay, this has now hit us at both mine and dh's busiest times so neither of us can take leave and we both work full time and frankly, everything is becoming a nightmare.

it is not even a huge build, just a loft conversion but we have not had one second to even plan the moving (we have a storage unit), where we are going to stay (moving the stairs will mean we have to be out - the children have a nanny so they can't be in the house around the builders either)...

do people exist who come in and help you manage everything? sort out the moving dates, help us find other accommodation, meet with the builders etc. etc.

You can certainly get a project manager /site surveyor who will do all the co-ordinating on site/shout at the builders/keep them on track etc, but they won't move you or find somewhere.

But you won't have to be out that long will you ? Would one of those short stay aparthotels work if it was 2 weeks that the children couldn't be there all the time.

Then you wouldn't need to move more than their toys and clothes that were needed day to day, and would make life much easier

EllieAnne · 01/04/2010 14:58

Just jumping in here... Do you really have to move out? Stairs should be done in one day (i'd question why if they say they can't) and yes there will be disruption but i'm sure your nanny could find things to do out of the house and make do when they have to be at home. Unless you're going to lose kitchen / bathroom then that's different......

Liase with builders by phone, arrange meetings once a day/week/whatever - when convenient for you, give them all possible ways to contact you and dh if and when problems arise (they will but most good builders can deal with all sorts of dramas easily if you give them the chance!)

Don't know your whole situation obviously but trying to put some calm in a crap situation!

EllieAnne · 01/04/2010 15:02

I know a good project manager, he also has a great list of people he uses if you don't already have that in place. He is based in SW11 if that is near to you.

Good show on the sugar & wheat front, sadly I will be visiting a famous tearoom so stuffing face with Fat Rascals (there is a clue there)

CountessDracula · 01/04/2010 15:15

oh I love a fat rascal
When are you back? We leave on 10th for a week
How is the leg?

MrsTweedy · 01/04/2010 15:17

Still broken! Another month at least of crutches yawn

We are back on 10th, apparently some match or other is on at Wembley

foxinsocks · 01/04/2010 15:18

in NY, great excuse!

stairs are a big thing as they are moving walls and they have to lower the ceilings on the 2nd floor which apparently brings down around 100 years of dust! Next door neighbours had the same done and were out for 6 weeks but they had their kitchen done and we aren't.

It's only a 2 up 2 down so there's v little room anyway so based on next door's, I think we will be out for 3 weeks.

I'm in deepest darkest sw london ellie.
