So I have decided not to move to Yeovil - what's the verdict on Taunton?

Thanks everyone who replied to my last thread asking about yeovil. Taunton is looking like the place for us - so if you live there or nearby, what do you think? Would you reccomend it to a family with toddlers?

I missed a naked streaking MNer? Buggery. I like Taunton, however when Woolworths shut down someone put round the rumour that we were getting a H&M. Instead it's a TK Maxx. Cruel. Morningpaper, with your naked antics, are you responsible for these viscous tales? next someone will tell me we are getting a Zara.

that is true about the H&M, but I take consolation in the fact that I'm not as much in debt as I would be if H&M had moved in...

I flashed by accident at the postman once - luckily for him it was before I had 2 babies. Actually, it was more than a flash - I was stark naked in the conservatory getting my clothes out of the tunmble dryer and he came round the back of the house to put a parcel through the catflap. Does that qualify me to move to Taunton?

Frome looks lovely, but not very full of employment or things to do!

Orm and Moosey, I feel jealous. I moved all over the place as a kid, so don't have that i-belong-here thing about anywhere - but Somerset/Dorset is as close as it gets because my Grandperents have lived in Dorset for 60 yrs and I have lots of other family in Somerset now so it;s the place I feel most attached to. I really really hope it will be our forever-place - I'd like my dss to have a strong feeling of 'home' when they are scampering about the world - a place to come back to.

My grandparents bought a house in Dorset in the late 40s before it was posh and was just full of farmers. 3 bed stone cottage, huge garden, rayburn (again, before it was posh in those days!). It cost them £60 -and my grandpa had to borrow half of that from a relative!!!

So glad they fitted Orm.

However, OP definitely won't move to Bridgwater now we have given the impression that the only decent shop is a slipper shop.

It's on the posh west side of Bridgwater.

(Actually if you know Bridgwater that's pretty funny).

I want to move to the 'posh west side'. Can't afford it atm.

We quite fancy Cannington but we also can't afford to move.

We're not really "moving house" types, tbh. I rather admire those people who move every few years. The whole idea; the looking, the buying, the boxing up mountains of stuff makes me go glassy-eyed. I suppose if we were in a position to upgrade considerably I might be more motivated.

Ahem - hello all Somerset ladies, thanks for your input on my moving dilemas! DH is looking at jobs - anyone know anyone who commutes from Taunton to Exeter, or Taunton to Bristol? Is it do-able or is it hell?

Doable. About 40 miles either way I think. Obviously it depends where in either city you are trying to get to.

Have you decided on Taunton then?
