If you had a job in Eastleigh where would you live?

We are relocating in the summer and I have my heart set on moving to Fordingbridge. But DH is interested in a teaching job in Eastleigh so I'm now looking at the surrounding area for good places to live a bit nearer to there. DC are 8&5 so good primary schools are essential. Chandlers Ford has cropped up but I can't find a really good primary school (though I'm sure they must exist!) Any recommendations? We're moving from Manchester so will already be downsizing which counts out Winchester.

Oh dear. I lived in Eastleigh (admittedly a while back pre children) I thought it was awful.

Oh but now I see you don;t actually want to live there....

There was a post about primary schools in winchester (which are generally v good) earlier this week.

I do have a job in Eastleigh - and live in Basingstoke (which I would not necessarily reccomend )
If we could afford it, I would love to live in Winchester, or Alresford.

Winchester, where I was brought up and to which I hope to return one day.

But if you can't afford it, how about Romsey?

I used to live near southampton and I went to school in Winchester. If you have to discount Winchester, there are some nice villages on the way to winch from eastleigh - such as hursley or twyford. Pricey, but perhaps less so than winch.

Southampton isn't brilliant. Romsey, I don't really know about, but might be worth a try. All round the back of Chandlers Ford, I can't remember the area - its all wooded and seems nice. Depends what you want.

Moodlum, yes, though in the 1970s and early 80s so I cannot necessarily comment on the schools now.

Waltham Chase. Less expensive than some of the surrounding bits but still nice.

Or not of course if you don't want to. It is just that depending on your age, I can only think of one girls school and I went there (unless you are older than me in which case you might have been at another school with my sister). I am only intrigued to know which - not trying to discover your identity!

I've emailed you. I was a private school girl. We drove past the school buildings the other day, and DH said - "it looks more like a lunatic asylum than a school". Which is true.

Sorry OP, you could also try Bishops Waltham and surrounding area - that's really nice.

Was also going to suggest Bishops Waltham. And Wickham (is that the right name? can now only think of the character in Pride and Prejudice!)

it depends really on the style of property you like

Yeah, I'm not considering Eastleigh. Just looking for somewhere nice to live that's easy to commute there.

i lived in romsey but this was pre-dcs so i can't give up to date schools info sadly
but that's a gorgeous little town with some stunning tho pricey property
hamble is also lovely if you're keen on boats lol

I worked in Eastleigh.

If I were you I would look to live around the Fareham area- Whiteley is a nice new, modern village. There is also Titchfield, older more traditional properties.

It would be about a 15 minute drive form there at a guess
