What crap have people left behind?

racmac · 18/12/2009 20:08

Inspired by the thread about what people have taken from a property.

We moved in 3 months ago and they left:

A bed - made up complete with sheets and blanket (not sure if they thought we were just going to hop into it to sleep)
A wardrobe
About 4 wheely bins worth of squashed diet coke cans
lots of dirt
lots and lots of rubbish
A garage full of stuff
2 sheds FULL of stuff

It was a complete mess and when i got in touch with Solicitors their response was
"they told us to leave whatever we wanted"

They were pains though - i turned up on completion day at 2.30pm and they hadnt even started packing

Loft full of porn, shed full of rubbish.

My friends came round with a ladder. I'm not sure what was the most disturbing find, the copies of OK magazines with the pages stuck together (ewwww) or the Strap on Sally video, upon whose discovery my friend said "Ohh, i've got that one!"

pair of very greying marks's knickers (size 14), in an otherwise immaculately cleaned house.

Moresproutsplease · 18/12/2009 20:16

A dusty dried flower "arrangement" and lots of dog hairs - yuk!

tispity · 18/12/2009 20:21

a pair of unwashed OAP Yfronts in the airing cupboard, a chain drilled into the wall inside the built-in wardrobe of teenage sons room (???)

dinoroar · 18/12/2009 20:24

My first place: they had taken up the old carpets and put new ones down about 10 years before we bought it. Instead of disposing of the old ones, they took them up to the loft!!!! I had to take them all to the tip in my car and it was gross.

My second place: I had to have the hotwater tank thingy in the airing cupboard replaced shortly after moving in. Builder removed old one and presented me with a pile of (disgusting) bras and knickers and assorted horrible old items which he had found down the back of it. I told him they weren't mine and he didn't believe me . He said he would use them as rags so I said OK then!

Third place: Previous people had a composter. Unfortunately, they didn't understand composting and threw in an unopened clear plastic bag of potatoes and a packet of satsumas still in their red net bag. That was filthy to clear up and my mum kindly did it for me as I had a newborn and I was petrified of filth at that point!

i left a donkey in the attic of the last house i moved out of. wonder what became of it.

Wattinger · 18/12/2009 20:26

A dog!

When my sister moved into her house last year the scumbags left their mangy dog behind

Needless to say, that had not been mentioned on the fixtures and fittings list!

MrFibble · 18/12/2009 20:27

Cement mixer

Nappy on the roof?

5 rolls of bitumen stuff for roofing

Lots of tiles, bags of cement etcetera

120 boxes of matches (approx)

racmac · 18/12/2009 20:28

OMG Wattinger - what did they do with it?

They got in touch with the vendors solicitors who asked the scumbags to come back and get it... The scumbags claimed it wasn't their dog ()and refused to collect it until my sister threatened to call the police.

Not sure if it is illegal to abandon a dog in your former home but some relative of the scumbags came round and took the poor dog. My sister was on the edge of a nervous breakdown by then!

virtually everything. We moved in at 6 at night, in the dark. The only thing they took with them in their camper van was the sofa and all the light bulbs?!? And as it panned out they also left a load of debt. This was only discovered after the debt collector knocked on the door a few weeks later! It was a "what have we done" type day, which ended with me 18 weeks pregnant, DH and my eldest who was one the next day camping on my mums floor. Ah, lovely memories.

IDontLikeDisciples · 18/12/2009 20:53

I found bin bag after bin bag of empty wine bottles in our loft.

A couple at the very back of the cupboard around the sink.

It made me quite sad tbh.

After about a year of living in our current house. DS found a pair of ladies pants down the back of the spare room radiator. They were enormous and that horrible manmade fabric with lacy bits. Also pretty 'well worn', originally pale pink but now more pale grey iyswim.

As we had been in the house a while we all assumed they belonged to either my mum or MIl who had both stayed in the room...

They were both mortally offended when we asked them, and TBH they were far to big once we saw them next to the pants! So we assume they must have belonged to the 80 something year old that we bought the house off of!

oopsandbabyJesusinacoconut · 18/12/2009 21:04

A loft full (yes almost full 500+) of hardcore porn mags and matching DVDs.

DH discovered them when he fell through a loft board.

Bigbadmummy · 18/12/2009 21:07

I run a property management company and I could write a book about the stuff tenatns have left behind.

The latest one was a round bed, 5000+ porn dvds, filming equipment and pencil drawings of a topless woman, photographs of a scantily clad woman who also appeared in a large number of the dvds.

A cannabis factory and £70,000 in cash discovered when CID broke the door down

eastendmummy · 18/12/2009 21:14

The ashes of her father in a box on top of the wardrobe. Scared the life out of me. She remembered a week later and asked for him back!

Shock
AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/12/2009 21:18

When we moved into our flat when we had just got married, the guy had left a box of holiday photos in the spare room, a tool kit in one of the kitchen drawers and a working TV in the living room, that night, being the excited teenagers that we were, we camped in the living room, got quite drunk and watched Rita, Sue and Bob To on the grotty old TV. It is one of my happiest memories!

jellyfingers · 18/12/2009 21:35

we found a pine bunk bed,a wicker table and a giant wicker laundry hamper,a brand new video recorder, box's of kids videos, box's of arts and craft stuff all in the loft a load of junk in the shed and of course a manky old bath in the garden to match the manky one in the house.
