What crap have people left behind?

racmac · 18/12/2009 20:08

Inspired by the thread about what people have taken from a property.

We moved in 3 months ago and they left:

A bed - made up complete with sheets and blanket (not sure if they thought we were just going to hop into it to sleep)
A wardrobe
About 4 wheely bins worth of squashed diet coke cans
lots of dirt
lots and lots of rubbish
A garage full of stuff
2 sheds FULL of stuff

It was a complete mess and when i got in touch with Solicitors their response was
"they told us to leave whatever we wanted"

They were pains though - i turned up on completion day at 2.30pm and they hadnt even started packing

So far - we completed today - a bed, a toy chest, several sets of drawers, an office chair (missing one arm?!), some toys, lots of plants in pots, some Wii games, lots of little bits and pieces. Oh, and the sink in the main ensuite is smashed. Which it wasn't when we had the offer accepted six months ago. I'm a bit scared to go into the loft now!

paddingtonbear1 · 18/12/2009 21:55

err.. 2 wardrobes (which were quite useful as it was our first house and we didn't have any), and in the loft - 10 demijohns, some old clothes that looked like they came out of the 60s/70s, and several car parts including a hood for an old convertible! The stuff in the loft probably came from not the previous owners but the ones before them!

Dressing gowns hanging on the back of the bedroom door. DH wore "his" for years.

the first house my mum and dad bought (that I can remember) the kitchen floor was on a slant so they took the floor up to find that the whole of the floor was help up by hundreds of jam jars. it was an extension and the walls weren't supported.

there were two sheds in the garden where the grand mothers from each family lived, little bed and living stuff in each (comfy but v.small)

and they also left the lovely smell of rotting fish on all 3 floors..!

beachyhead · 18/12/2009 22:03

We moved in about 4 weeks ago and we've just found out he dumped all his rubbish between the fence and the hedge (still in the garden unfortunately!) Old radiators, mattresses, real scum can't be bothered to take to the tip stuff!!!!!

MerryXmasMrsHenry · 18/12/2009 22:04

Someone I know thinks they may have left behind a Rampant Rabbit! (don't think they asked for it back)

NorbertDentressAngel · 18/12/2009 22:08

A solitary bottle of "vintage" Babycham in an understairs cupboard

montmartre · 18/12/2009 23:28

Aw bless... that was for you to raise a toast to your new home y'know!

IDontLikeDisciples · 19/12/2009 01:13

Oh god I just remembered going for a second viewing - opening the cupboard the boiler was in and there was an empty vodka bottle down the side, and one full and one half full on top.

We just didn't mention it but I felt awful for the woman.

mumhadenough · 19/12/2009 01:19

At least one pair of knickers behind every single radiator in the house. Flowery old granny ones at that!

Ours was previously in multiple occupancy.

Disgruntled tenants when vendor sold (she mucked them, & us, about spectacularly).

So we took 3 vanloads of assorted crap to the tip on completion day. Vendor turned up in the midst of this. She'd changed various locks at some point & neglected to give new keys to the estate agents, who also hated her & took great pleasure in telling her to get her arse here pronto & hand over all keys.

She then hovered over the loading of the van, attempting to scavenge through her tenants' detritus.

Oh & the girl in the top floor flat bit left a series of notebooks detailing her Fatal Attraction style plans for her ex, & an extensive collection of well worn underwear.

The ex turned up a few weeks later - she'd texted him to say she'd burnt his PC & he thought it was worth checking once she'd safely moved on. Judging by the mysterious melted plastic & metal lump in the garden, she wasn't kidding.

The manky pants came in handy though.

The guy who helped us move is a mate of dh's. As I subsequently learnt from his gf, he arrived home after a weekend lugging furniture with his suitcase full of grotty knickers & no explanation for how they got there.

Why he's still speaking to dh I'll never know...

IDontLikeDisciples · 19/12/2009 01:50

Why did he put the dirty underwear in his suitcase?

ravenAK · 19/12/2009 02:18

It wasn't dirty as in unwashed! Just tatty, faded, & a bit sad. Lots of Primark leopard pattern bras.

Laddish humour, apparently - they found this drawer full of undies whilst shifting a wardrobe that'd been left.

I bagged it all up for the clothes recycling bank. Dh subsequently thought it'd be wildly comical to plant the bag in his mate's suitcase.

The vendor of the house we live in now kindly left a load of end of rolls of wallpaper and small offcuts of carpet "in case you want to patch up any pieces".

A lovely though maybe but the house had last been decorated in the 1960s and when we moved in we took down walls, built extensions, re-wired, re-plumbed and completely re-plastered every room which meant a complete overhaul.

I think he thought we would live in it as he left it.

potplant · 19/12/2009 12:18

If I ever move house I will make certain that the last thing I do is check behind the radiator for old knickers.

Every room had a white ball paper lampshade instead of the lovely light fittings we saw when we viewed. I thought they were a bit naff and 80s so chucked them. Course now they are in Habitat for ££££.
They also left all the shrubs in the garden that they had asked us to pay for.

ShimmyYourselfHappy · 19/12/2009 13:35

A framed photo of Sophia Loren. We became quite fond of it.

Elibean · 19/12/2009 16:37

A zimmer frame, some garden tools (dh delighted), a large shell (dd delighted), a birdbath (me delighted, till wind blew it over and it broke).

And as it had been refurbished prior to sale, I think it was the builders who left some very dodgy looking pickled stuff in the fridge...

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 19/12/2009 17:28

Cellar with wheel chair, false leg, zimmers and a box of meds!
We were students, the council closed down the old folks home as it contravened care laws or something and we moved straight in...
Wheel chair came in handy for parties and we had a lot of fun on the stair lift until it broke

Moresproutsplease · 19/12/2009 18:03

In each of the houses we've sold, We left a 'welcome to your new home' card and a bottle of wine. Hopefully nothing else

FabIsGettingReadyForXmas · 19/12/2009 18:14

The people who sold us their house took everything they said they would leave and left a drawer full of crap, a bag full of crap, a garden roller, 9 bags of rubbish and a broken rotary washing line. We were not best pleased especially as we still owned our previous house and DH was going back regularly to mow the lawn and put the wheeley bin out.

BlauerWeihnachtsengel · 19/12/2009 18:22

An old axe.

Covered in splashes of red paint.

At least I think it was paint.

shortandsweet2 · 19/12/2009 18:30

You sure you've not gone into the wrong house by mistake dilemma? Your new house is probably next door
