Been as though a few of us have the builders in i thought we could share our fun and try and get through the mire together (even though pavlos stories scared me half to shit).

SO were getting an extension built and they started Wednesday - they seem canny and we have a digger in our garden, guinea pigs at the back of the garedn i have to risk life and limb for to get too to feed and mud - loads of mud - my wellies are caked in the stuff from my guinea pig feeding missions!

Our foundations are all dug out now and most excitingly a mixy truck load of cement was barrowed round the back in to them. Wheres everyone else at?

Hi! (it's me still, reg on this thread, yet another name change)
Lots of progress here but still about 2 months away from (newly revised) end date. Windows in, upstairs progressing quickly but we have now decided to have underfloor heating throughout kitchen (was going to be all new bit but not in corner that was old kitchen) so kitchen now has rubble all over the floor, two big holes and the rest of it is filled with plasterboard and cellotex (pic on profile)

Am still that you are so near the end Nappy(upstairs at least!)

How's the progress cake? Are you down to 5 weeks now?

Just going to upload that photo...

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 24/01/2010 17:51

oh i am so at underfloor heating . I am feeling the effects of dust now from plastering more than anything and because walls have gone up iternally they are walking in my actual house to get room to room - my hoover and mop have probably been out more times since after xmas than they have in their whole life - i hoover then wish my carpet about with an attachment of hoover and a cloud of it appears . i need some super sucking machine as im sure my dyson is dying inside with it all!

I am going to order the carpet for dd's bedroom to be fitted next saturday tomorro or Tue though so at least some of the cabin fever feeling can waive if we get her boxed in and settled. Her walls are all white so going to paint one light pink and i am tryin to convince her a nice beige carpet would be nice but she has seen a shocking bright plain pink one she wants. Thats all provided the skirting boards are fitted and glossed in time as with the radiators attached to the wall and the electrics final fixed

IdontFeelLikeDancing · 24/01/2010 18:11

OOOOh, I have been looking (prematurely but don't want to have to make any rush decisions at end ) at carpets too. I'm going for a pale beige throughout upstairs. I'm too mean to ask dd's opinion otherwise bet she would have pink too! She also has one pale pink wall and the others a 'chalk' white, looks really nice. I have to keep looking at the end bits (curtains, paints etc) just to keep me going

IdontFeelLikeDancing · 24/01/2010 18:11

Oh and photos should be up now...

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 24/01/2010 18:32

OP posts:
IdontFeelLikeDancing · 24/01/2010 18:53

Hmm. I don't understand! Have put them on my photos and set them as visible to my mumsnet mates. Can you still not see them?

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 24/01/2010 19:37

nope - i understand if you dont want to be my friend no more

OP posts:
IdontFeelLikeDancing · 24/01/2010 20:54

LOL! Yes, I'm afraid as you are so close to the end I have decided we can no longer be friends I'm going to bung it on public for a bit so you can hopefully see it. Let me know when you have.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 24/01/2010 21:32

omg i suddenly feel like i have done alot of moaning for nothing! really thats your kitchen? Your not living there are you? blimey. ds has croupe - i dont think plaster dust does him any favours .

OP posts:
IdontFeelLikeDancing · 24/01/2010 21:56

Oh no it's not that bad! Yes we are living in the house but at the moment they have boarded up the door between the kitchen and our part of the house. It's extremely noisy and a bit of the dust came through when they were digging up the floor but it's really not that bad! We have a make shift kitchen set up in our part of the house.
Your poor ds, croup is horrible. I expect the plaster dust if making it worse. Wet towels on the radiators I bet, see you can't do that with underfloor heating Hope he feels better soon.

cakeforbrains · 25/01/2010 10:45

Hello! Idontfeel... your house looks at a similar stage to ours - our gable end is done and they are working on the roof at the moment. Your kitchen looks a nightmare tho. Why are builders incapable of tidying up after themselves ever??
Nappyzone - snap! DS1 has got croup too. And still no heating, so can't put wet towels on the radiators. I'm very jealous that you are nearing the end tho. Are you pleased with the upstairs or would you change any of it?

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 25/01/2010 18:31

OOo almost a roof is good then things will start happening - exciting times ahead! No im happy i think - upset today as my funky nice taps wave taps were fit in situ then as presse ddown on basin the end bit snapped of highlighting they are cast in 2 pieces and clearly if bath ones do same we are in the poo so just been to organise some different mroe robust one piece ones i dont like half as much but dh insists they are safer . What do you think [http://www.bathstore.com/_application/bathstore/products/taps/wave-taps/ it willl be the h frame metro bath filler and basin mixer one]]. I feel a stress coming on tbh - im pre menstrual and tired though and took ds to docs today who said his tonsils were huge almost touching but no puss yet so probably viral tonsilitus but gave penicillin to start on Thus if still whiney - am tempteed to start them anyway as im to tired to gamble.

OP posts:
nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 25/01/2010 18:32

cake beg steal or borrow a humidifier if you can - we have had one since his last bout in december and i think it works....

OP posts:
IdontFeelLikeDancing · 25/01/2010 20:04

Sorry Nappy but I do much prefer the wave ones. I am having these in my bathroom but got them for a better price than on there from our local plumbing merchant. Might be worth thinking about...

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 25/01/2010 20:27

i know they remind me too much of a droopy willy . Damn bathstore - because had them ages there isnt a refund option.

OP posts:
nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 25/01/2010 20:34

We like the track ones too but £508 for taps is well and would involve me finding £230 from down the back of the sofa and i have already emptied that out . Will wait till the manager rings me tomorow and pull out all my flirty charm and see if she can arrange a huge discount (bet its a woman!).

Your taps are quite similar to my ones - the whole end curvey piece just snapped off as was held together by two tiny screws - hope yours are all one piece.

OP posts:
IdontFeelLikeDancing · 25/01/2010 21:08

I hope not either! I haven't got them here yet but I'll be looking carefully for the two part split. Good luck with the flirting

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 25/01/2010 21:13

OK well its wheere the spouty doopy bit joins the shaft - our droopy bit was very thin and sleek but obviously weak as wee water and certainly would be no good when the toddler uses them to drag himself up as a standing aid! good luck !

OP posts:
skinsl · 26/01/2010 18:34

where to start!!
they've been going about 2 weeks. day one the stairs carpet was ruined. They dislodged the hatch door and allsorts of rubble came down. They then covered the stairs with this film, a bit too late.
a lot of banging for a week, then the stairs went in, which they tell you is towards the end, its not, and when we got up there, it was way too small. We are having a bedroom and shower room. The shower room was bigger than our family bathroom!! They hadn't knocked down the chimney breast, which would have given us nearly 2 feet extra.
We are having the roof raised, which is why we had to have planning permission, and they hadn't done it at all like we wanted and was still too low. Then, they left all these heavy plasterboards out on Friday night. I had DS(2) in the house. I couldnt get to the lights upstairs, they had left the bathroom filthy and taken his stairgate off. And i couldn't get it back on until I moved the boards. Then DS scratched his ankle, quite badly on a nail, sticking out of a board in the hall. I was furious then

So, had huge row with boss, who will not talk to us, keeps sending his project manager round. And they said they would knock chimney breast down, sort the walls for bathroom and move one main beam, which will change the height slightly.
So felt like we were getting somewhere
Then today, they were knocking the chimney breast down, and they hadnt covered up the fireplaces. Bedroom filthy and front lounge room, where we have all our clothes, because we have lost the wardrobe in our bedroom, rubble all down the chimney and into the front room. Just stupid.
So I am not best pleased
toots I will tell you exactly what to watch out for!!
