Come and talk flooring with me - yes I am that boring and...

I need some luscious (but not toooooo expensive flooring for my new kitchen).

Key facts are:
Kitchen is off white painted wood
I am having underfloor heating
I don't want tiles
I did want engineered oak but I'm being disuaded by some doom and gloom merchants about the problem of getting water on it.
Kitchen is one half of a large family/dining/kitchen type room and I would like the same flooring all the way across.

Are there any fantastic laminates out there (that look like wood not laminate trying to look like wood) and can they be used over underfloor hearing.
What alternative haven't I thought of?!

My mum has pergo and although I tried to talk her into real wood it looks good and has u/f heating

So what is pergo and why were you trying to talk her into real wood and would you/have you had engineered wood in a kitchen?

I had karndean in bathroom in old house, was not impressed but amtico is better I think.

cece- where is amtico going - in kitchen? Have you got underfloor heating?

You could go for slate? I know you said you didn't want tiles but slate has a lovely natural effect, works for all the way through a large family kitchen, and good with underfloor heating.

Quattro - one part of the room will be seating area - squashy sofas type thing and I just think it will feel too cold with tiles/slate (not physically cold just cold/unfriendly) I do love slate in other settings - hearths etc but just not for a big floor.

Your room sounds like ours. Kitchen, dining area and sofa/tv area all in one room. We do not have underfloor heating. Although I believe it is possible to have it with Amtico, you do need to have the correct adhesive though (there are 3 or 4 different adhesives to go with Amtico) I bought it last week online (so cheaper than rrp) from simplyamtico.co.uk

I have ahd engineered wood and def would again. I think the fake wood effect always looks fake but had to eat my words as my mums is v nice.I have grey ceramic atm but its a v warm room with 2 open fires so its not cold.Have also had karndean and didn't like it at all.Real wood definitely looks better over time if it was abuy to sell thing its different

YY that's it cece! Can you link to what you are having?
Noddy - we won't have any open fires in ours. How did the engineered oak stand up to splashes/area round sink etc?

i have real wood but not engineered
room is 40 foot and the wood nice long wide planks
not underfloor but do have aga at one end
works well - practical

Lol - after cod's shoe boot tastes last year, I'm not sure I trust her anymore
My taste is a bit cottagey but NOT NOT NOT twee. So painted shaker units, corian work surface on long stretch of units, planning to have wood on central island.
Basically what I really want is painted units and wood floor but a few people have been doing the sucking through teeth thing about the idea.

I like this - although hanging thingy may be a step too far. NOt sure about two types of flooring like they have here though either...

We have choosen classic warm stone 18 inch tiles, with concrete putty stripping

Wanted real tile look but not the cold feet.

Used this compnay as they are approved suppliers by Amtico, some online shops aren't approved.

NAO - can't have real wood with underfloor, apparently it would dry out and warp because of the heat

Ah frog, the style of you rkitchen is a bit different to mine. Have some photos on my profile. Tiles now on walls... though so we are a bit further on than when I took those photos.

Cece - that will be good nice and warm looking. I want my kitchen to be the sort of comfy room people want to gather in rather than one where every word echos and people are wishing they had their slippers with them because it's so cold!

Well the engineered wood was fab and no marks etc around sink so practical.Not sure about heating though have had it with tiles before and its lovely

I like it Cece! Def. similar layout to mine too and I like the clean lines. The one I linked to is a bit fussy but I do love the units.

we have painted units and wood floor and just got asked for our kithen to be in some magazines! What's the problem with it !!??

Are you a clean freak though NOddy - I am a bit of a slattern so might not remember to wipe up spills straight away.
What tiles have you gone for Cece, I haven't even thought about that yet (too early) but I do quite fancy glass splashbacks but not in that pink although realise it may not go with my style of kitchen at all!

I do like a mop! but the floor was factory lacquered completly matt and virtually indestructible
