...NO I don't care

I need some luscious (but not toooooo expensive flooring for my new kitchen).

Key facts are:
Kitchen is off white painted wood
I am having underfloor heating
I don't want tiles
I did want engineered oak but I'm being disuaded by some doom and gloom merchants about the problem of getting water on it.
Kitchen is one half of a large family/dining/kitchen type room and I would like the same flooring all the way across.

Are there any fantastic laminates out there (that look like wood not laminate trying to look like wood) and can they be used over underfloor hearing.
What alternative haven't I thought of?!

OOOOOOOOOOOoh Cece, very nice! Are you having the brick lay out too - love that. Choosing tiles/worktops is fun but stressful, so expensive to make a mistake with.

I have Amtico in the kitchen and 2 of the bedrooms. I love Amtico. I only wish I had more floors that I could cover with it.

cece · 13/09/2009 22:27

I too am a slattern. However, they are surprisingly easy to oil and don't need it too much. In fact it is rather satisfying seeing them change colour as you loving stroke them with the cloth . I must admit I paid for the pre oil serivce

Well it was a junkers floor and about 4/5 yrs ago but will try!

noddyholder · 13/09/2009 22:29

noddy, nice red tiles. I always like red but have never had it in my own home. We always end up with green! LOL

noddyholder · 13/09/2009 22:39

I love green too but had red won this time as I have a lot of red bits and its open plan

NotanOtter · 13/09/2009 22:54

If you want Amtico this place is the absolute cheapest to get it that I have found. And they do next working day delivery. Have just bought oak Amtico from them and their customer service was fantastic - phoned as soon as the order went through to check I had calculated correctly etc.

HerHonesty · 14/09/2009 19:45

personally i dont think there is a substitute for wood. have looked at most of them in shops and in the flesh and never been convinced.

re underfloor heating - read this - it depends on wood and installation.

www.chauncey.co.uk/floors/underfloorheating.htm

i dotn personally see a problem with wood in aa kitchen, if its well sealed and looked after you shouldnt have a problem. and i am ddefinitely not a clean freak.

ADriedFrogForTheBursar · 14/09/2009 21:02

Her honesty - is the tectonic system just something specific to them? THeir prices are a bit £££ for me

THanks Token - I'll book mark that in case I don't go for wood

I think it has to be engineered for u/f heating.

ADriedFrogForTheBursar · 14/09/2009 21:15

The one HH linked to is an engineered board particularly for use over UF heating by the sound of it.

HerHonesty · 15/09/2009 19:06

i dont think it has to be specifically this one - i just think it has to be engineered and you would of course neet to check with the makers.
