Do you think this would make a good family home? Hertford is such an expensive town & there are many 2 bedroom houses but not so many 3/4/5 bedroom house &, therefore, you pay a premium. What do you think of this?

Can sympathise. We looked at Hertford over 15 years ago and there was nothing then

Ware doesn't float your boat then?

newgirl · 13/04/2009 18:12

are you set on hertford? for that money i would live in st albans - if that not an option the house is very smart - i think small gardens are fairly normal on modern estates?

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 19:25

The house is only overlooked by a bedroom window or too into the garden, so I wouldn't say that is a minus really.

It was last sold on 6 Aug '04 for £498,000 so what would you consider it is worth now? (Was bought for the first time for £364,950 on 30/03/01). Haven't viewed it as yet as it is over our budget but we are hoping it comes down in price.

Yeah we really want to stay in Hertford as we are settled here & have friends in the town. We have been looking at houses in the surrounding villages & also Ware but the Hertford North line is so much better than the Hertford East/Ware line into London for DH's commute.

Oh god yes, the Ware line is the utter pits, I see your point.

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 20:32

It really is dreadful & they are forever cancelling/terminating the trains at Broxbourne & putting buses on for the rest of the journey to Ware/Hertford East

can you not be seduced by West Herts - St Albans or Berkhamsted/Tring/Hemel Hempstead - much better places for commuting (28mins from where I live in Hemel)

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 13/04/2009 20:35

gawd are prices really that high there? i like new buiolds so thumbs up from me but the garden it a titchywopper - is it south facing?

KingCanuteIAm · 13/04/2009 20:38

It is quite reasonably priced compared to some of the things round here!

Looks lovely

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 20:46

Both St Albans & Berkhamstead are lovely but we have no connections there & do not want to start from scratch. Here in Hertford we have a wide circle of friends & feel it is the place we want to stay for years & raise our family. I believe Tring is nice but I thought Hemel Hempstead wasn't all that great. At the moment the house I have posted seems the best of what is on the market at this time. House hunting is a stressful business

Looks like good value to me too...

Quite a trek from the town but if that's no prob for you then looks good

We looked at ware before we decided to stay put where we were already! Lovely round there...

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 21:02

It is a bit further out than we'd ideally want but, if you know Hertford, you know how hard it is getting a big house for a decent-ish price. There is the option of walking into town (downhill ) & cacthing the bus back. We would love to stay in Bengeo but no houses on the market

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 13/04/2009 21:11

I think that's a forever house. Have you actually been round it? Most of those shots look like they've been taken with a fish-eye lens to make them look bigger than they actually are.

ellingwoman · 13/04/2009 21:18

Don't really know Hertford in detail but the one in Fordwich Rise looks nicer, has a larger garden and is within walking distance of Hertford North. Same price as well. Have you looked at it?

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 21:30

No, not looked round it yet as it is out of our budget but we are waiting to see if they bring it down.
