Do you think this would make a good family home? Hertford is such an expensive town & there are many 2 bedroom houses but not so many 3/4/5 bedroom house &, therefore, you pay a premium. What do you think of this?

Unless you plan to have 15 children then this seems like a forever kind of house and if that is the case and you can afford it you should go for it.

It is massive and I think children would love the quirky sloped ceilings in the top floor bedrooms.

If you have boys that lawn would be trashed but it is a small price to pay for a house of that size.

ruty · 13/04/2009 12:52

it is huge!

LIZS · 13/04/2009 13:08

so much nicer than the other one but garden looks small for size of house.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 13/04/2009 13:12

tiny garden!

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 13:34

Yeah garden doesn't look huge - wonder how big the patio are is.

OP posts:
ickletickle · 13/04/2009 17:16

is it on a new build estate?

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 13/04/2009 17:21

I don't like it. It's very bland and I think the kitchen and bathrooms need replaced - it's very early nineties.

I haven't looked at the property market you're in but surely for that giant wodge of cash you can do better?

a hundred grand less and in a nice area

needs a bit of decorating but again nice village

are you wedded to Hertford in particular?

Heated · 13/04/2009 17:29

looks so much nicer than the previous one; so much more money too!

the obvious negative is the small garden but otoh easy to maintain & perhaps there's a good local park nearby?

do you prefer nb?

if you like new how about this lake front home about 5 miles away?

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 17:30

I think it is a nice house but would not go beyond that, I would something that I loved to spend that kind of money.

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 17:30

It was built in 2000 or 2001. Agree we would need to.t replace kitchen/bathroom but that's not a big deal as we'd want to put our stamp on it.
Laurie - we want to stay in Hertford only, Knebworth is too far away. If you look on rightmove for just Hertford you will see the rubbish choices!
Cheers guys

OP posts:
LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 13/04/2009 17:34

You're totally right, there are some truly dreadful choices in Hertford itself

which is why I'd move here

ItsMargotBeaurEGGarde · 13/04/2009 17:34

it's lovely. what would you offer?

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 17:35

Saw the first link, not sure I can read the rest as I am so at the giant lovely house you are planning on buying!

ForeverOptimistic · 13/04/2009 17:35

It is even bigger than the last one! I like it.

New houses are so much more practical for families. There is definitely a snobbery against newer homes. We are in a victorian terrace, there isn't room to swing a cat and children can't play in the street, I would swop my house with character for a "bland" new build any day!

Quattrocento · 13/04/2009 17:43

Well the downsides for me is that it is relatively modern and the walls and doors don't look solid. I like nice solid walls. Also a wee bit bland. And overlooked from every conceivable angle. And a pocket handkerchief sized garden.

brimfull · 13/04/2009 17:44

blimey that's ££££

WantingToMove · 13/04/2009 17:49

Thanks for the links, like the first one in Knebworth but DH wouldn't entertain the master bedroom as he is over 6' & wants a full height. The Codicote is on the high street so not really for us. Hoddesdon isn't that nice of an area really. Thanks anyway though! We really want to stay in Hertford but finding a house is a struggle!

OP posts:
hatesponge · 13/04/2009 17:50

for a newish house i think its lovely, the downside of course with all newbuilds is the small garden. but if you're set on living in that area, seems like the only acceptable choice!

wish i had that much to spend...makes my £200k budget look tiny!

ickletickle · 13/04/2009 18:03

for half a mill, its a bit ordinary.
