Have you ever seen anything?

GypsyMoth · 25/02/2009 11:33

Mice?

bluebump · 25/02/2009 14:25

Two of our family houses were haunted, admittedly both were fairly old (one Elizabethan) but in both houses people (ghosts) were seen by us and visitors so we weren't imagining it ourselves. I live in a modern house now and it's pretty much the first house i've never felt that there is 'something' else here!

It could well be haunted or it could just be old. I was convinced the ILs house was haunted as there was so much noise of someone moving around upstairs but apparently it's just the floorboards contacting (or expanding ) when the heating is on.

georgiemum · 25/02/2009 14:29

Sleep depravation?

castlesintheair · 25/02/2009 14:29

'contracting'

Mammina · 25/02/2009 15:59

but what I don't understand is why older houses are the ones that are normally deemed haunted - surely people have died in a lot of houses in the last few years so why do you never hear stories of 'modern' ghosts?

GypsyMoth · 25/02/2009 16:04

Migola........that's a good point!!!

wombleprincess · 25/02/2009 16:41

well it was built in 1900 so not that old.. reckon you might have something there with the contacting floorboards though.. and the sleep deprivation...

Sometimes it is just linked to what was on the site before. Our old house was on convent land and the number of nuns we saw... There were also a couple of other 'things' linked to old inhabitants.

Plus we mainly die in hospital these days!

Mammina · 25/02/2009 17:03

hmm maybe..

georgiemum · 25/02/2009 17:07

Boooooo! It's probably more likely to be floorboards expanding and contracting after you have been walking on them. Old floorboards can be quite crappy!

Mammina · 25/02/2009 17:11

I do find the whole thing fascinating though and am curious but would never want to see anything

EverSOLOlolololoLonely · 25/02/2009 17:12

Ghosts don't generally hurt you. My old house was haunted and I found it really comforting.

wannaBe · 25/02/2009 17:18

My house is just ten years old and I am positive there is a presence here although I don't know what it might be.

After we'd lived here for about six months I lost a ring - it literally disappeared off my finger and to this day I don't know how. It wasn't too big, it had never slipped off before. Anyway, we searched the house and turned it upside down, my mum even came over to help look for it and we didn't find it. Then about three months later ds ran into the kitchen one morning and shouted "look, there's mummy's ring." and he came running out with it in his hand - it was on the kitchen floor. to this day I have no idea where it had been or how it got there.

More recently a knife has disappeared out of my knife block. I remember putting it back there after unloading the dishwasher and it has disappeared. I only hope the ghost isn't keeping it to stab me with

I've also heard dog bowls move across the kitchen floor even though there's been nothing there to move them, and one night I was sitting here and swore I heard someone walking on the decking outside the window.

My brother has a friendly ghost in his house. My SIL often finds money in pockets when she's in need that she knows she didn't leave there. He(Sid the ghost)takes things too...he has taken my spare house keys and I'm none too happy about that! Sid loves my Dd too. He always pops in when she's around!

georgiemum · 26/02/2009 13:31

As my mum used to say... if they were going to hurt you they would do so on the first night in the house.

We had nuns, a rasping breathing sound (old neighbours told mum that they remember when the daughter in the house died of consumption - in the same room!!!), big scary shadow man in a top hat (the doctor we assume - I saw him when I was in my cot and kept asking about the 'man with no mouth'), various shadows that passed windows and doorways and scare visitors (hehehehehe) and most spookily... the little girl in a long nightie who used to ask my sister to 'come and play'. I also once heard slow jazz music coming from downstairs when I was in the house alone one night. We had no close neighbours and there was no TV or radio on... Things used to kick off generally when there was an upheval in the family (which was most times!).

Argggggg! No not really - it was quite normal for us. I do hope the new people in the house are getting used to it now!

bluebump · 26/02/2009 13:37

One of our ghosts was a child as my parents would think that I had got out of my cot as they could hear running around but when they got upstairs i'd be fast asleep...followed by the ghost running around them! My dad would chase the sound of the footprints which it would love as it would run around him for ages. My parents to this day swear it followed us on holiday to France too!

kslatts · 26/02/2009 13:54

WannaBe - I've had similar experiences to you where I have looked for something for ages and all of a sudden it appears right in front of me.

Our neighbour told us that an elderley lady died in the house a few years ago.
