On what side shall we put the toilet roll holder?

A trivial question I know, but would it be wrong to put the toilet roll holder on the right side of the loo (as you look at the loo)?

We've always had it to the left.

However, we don't have enough room to the left (we do have enough room for the holder, but not to slide the toilet roll on), but we do on the right.

Anyway, I think it isn't quite right, my husband thinks it is fine, I thought I would ask for some more thoughts!

I can't quite believe I am posting up about this, but I am interested what other people think.

Cheers

It seems wrong to me.... but if there is no room, then I feel sure I would be able to forgive you eventually

DrNortherner · 06/10/2008 20:20

If you sit on my loo, mine is on my left.

DevilishDisasterArea · 06/10/2008 20:20

no on right side if stood loking towards loo. on left side when sitting.

ninah · 06/10/2008 20:21

wrong in what way? socially, morally?

PeaMcLean · 06/10/2008 20:21

I can't believe you're posting about it either

I don't believe there are any rules (MN will no doubt prove me wrong!) Put it where it fits.

2 of ours are on the left and one on the right for space reasons. the one on the right is awkward TBH. You have to have the paper hanging down against the wall (which is just plain wrong )

likessleep · 06/10/2008 20:22

Tee hee, I hope I am not causing any contention here.
But it is a genuine question.

Does it really matter? Have you ever sat on anyoen elses loo and thought 'the loo roll holder is on the wrong side?"

theinsider · 06/10/2008 20:23

Both ours are on the right, as you sit on it. To me there is no right and wrong. It's a grey area.

PeaMcLean · 06/10/2008 20:23

But Mutt? Isn't that a bit anti left handed people? Do you not welcome left handed people to your house?

I'm shocked.

VermiciousKnid · 06/10/2008 20:23

left when sitting

as most people are right-handed

Icanseethesea · 06/10/2008 20:25

Ours is on the right, which wiokes fine for me . I am left handed though, does it make a differnce?

The one at work is on the right, which I find awkward

PeaMcLean · 06/10/2008 20:26

Clearly the only politically correct thing to do is to have two. One on each side.

ninah · 06/10/2008 20:26

hang it from the ceiling?

likessleep · 06/10/2008 20:28

It doesn't really matter, no, that's why I am slightly embarrassed to be posting.

But, we've got a new holder to fit somewhere and where we normally put it, it won't go. I don't know whether to go and find another smaller loo roll holder or put it on the other side.

Yes, I do worry about the smallest things

'Worry' is too strong a word. 'Thinking about' is far more apt

I agree Mutt - DH, DS and me are all right handed and I think being to the left as you look at the loo is more intuitive for right handers.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts!

I never realised till I read this that I must be in the minority with mine.

All 3 on the right hand side.. and all right handed people

oh well another way to be different

AMumInScotland · 06/10/2008 20:40

We've got 2 loos - one has the holder on the left, one on the right. I'e never really thought about it, or been bothered either way TBH!

Flamebat · 06/10/2008 20:42

Soupy - you do know that toilet paper can be turned round don't you? Therefore having the paper hanging in or out as you choose on both sides?

ohdearwhatamess · 06/10/2008 20:43

We have 2 on the right, one on the left, but I manage to use both sides without too much difficulty (am right-handed).

yomellamoHelly · 06/10/2008 20:43

Ours is on the right as you sit on it. It is the wrong side and I do still notice it now after 5 1/2 years. No wall on left.
