Is Magnolia REALLY a horrid colour?

I kind of like it-or is that because I have 10 litres of it and can't be bothered buying any more! . No, really, have been trying to find an alternative as I've always had it, but the truth is, I like it . Is it really that much of an interior faux pas?

I don't think so, but it does depend on the precise shade.

i think it's fine. A bit uninspired, but walls can be a blank canvas, it goes with everything and you change the look of a room by jazzing it up with pictures/cushions/furniture safe in the knowledge that everything will go with the walls.

Ha ha, not military, but am a uni family so same kind of housing-loads of the same worn out houses in a row! Have been looking at "just walnut" "fresh breeze" "timeless" etc etc, but they are all too white, too dark or too grubby looking!

It is entirely lime green! In every bedroom, in the lounge, kitchen, oh, sorry, the bathroom is forest green! Oh, and the ceilings are grey!

One of the bedrooms here was lime green when we moved in. The house was a state. Living room was bright orange, other bedrooms were bright red and blue, hallways were bright yellow and the bathroom was a horrid turquoise colour. Looked foul. Took several coats of the stuff, but magnolia is my friend Makes the place look instantly bigger, cleaner and fresher. ANd I can change furniture and decoration with no worry about it matching- its a perfect blank canvas.

not horrid precisely, just overused and boring as hell in the 80s - but since then it has been castigated so much that it's quite rare, so probably ok to use again now!

All my walls will be pure brilliant WHITE.
(I dont think there is a single white wall in this house. Wood panelling, wood panelling, velvet red on gold wallpaper) Had magnolia in London. Loved it. Great colour.

Yay, stuff bloody timeless, at least with magnolia I can paint over coffee spills 6 feet high two years down the line when I trip over dd, without needing to remember the shade! How do people live with such grim houses? Why why why would you do that? And it is always horrid tacky £5 for 20 litres shiny paint too!

I could use it and tell people it is barley hue or something to throw them off the scent, and then they will all go "ooh, ahhh", paint their houses in barley hue and end up with bright yellow walls! [grin}

I had pure brilliant white walls at the last house and hated it-if you put the light on you got a headache as it reflected so badly!

But then again I hear barley hue is lovely ...... he he, quint don't worry, it is really nice in the right home, but it just didn't work in mine!

PLP, I'm sure there was a whole Dulux range of shades of white like straw white, barley white, rope white, chewed string white, palest taupe etc. that were pretty much like magnolia but a bit less yellowy - so you could easily tell people it was one of those. But of course still use the magnolia cos it's much cheaper! (or isn't it now? Sorry, haven't painted any room for over 5 years now )

Ooh that's a scrummy colour! Have spent a whole week with Little Greene Co and F & B testers everywhere, and tbh I just like magnolia! It's the same price as all the other colours now, but homebase are selling 10 litres for £37, but that is on all dulux.

isn't magnolia just a 1970's poncey way of saying "cream".

Can;t beat a bit of honest cream IMVHO
