4 storey victorian terrace in nice but busy city centre location near shops etc patio garden lots of character OR big bungalow not granny type huge garden nice area but suburban and quiet,we are 43 and 47 withds of 14 and are viewing both tomorrow which makes no sense but we like both

dp loves gardening.Bungalow is lovely its a period chalet so has lots of character big rooms and am tempted by size and potential whereas the house is a no brainer and is what I am used to I think we will both disagree

How long do you intend staying there. If it is about 20 odd years, can you see yourselves running up and down 4 flights of stairs or do you fancy an easy life.

I think we will stay there 10 yrs as we have moved a lot and need to stop!

Depends on how important the garden is to you all, as well as location and convenience too of course.
We live in a town house but part of me would love a more secluded house with large, private garden.
The bungalow will afford much more privacy (and more light too?) I'd guess, is this an issue?
What aspect do the houses/gardens face? Which will get more sun?

The town house has v small paved north facing patio The bungalow big south facing garden.Bungalow is surprisingly stylish (really) lots of big windows and light and big bedrooms.Needs major overhaul as has had same old lady forever and she has sadly dies .Town house is very pretty or has the potential to be is currently students so shabby.I am thinking maybe dp sees bungalow as a forver house and townhouse not.The bungalow has a huge loft conversion which would make an amazing upstairs living room with lovely views am coming round to it

Town house - not so much for its architectural style but just because it's so much nicer to be in the middle of town with everything on your doorstep especially if you have teenage children. Tell dp to get an allotment.

Town house is convenient but other house is 5 mins from town on a bus just a quieter location.Bungalow also closer to school but he only has 2 more years there so not a big issue really,

bungalow, although if go with heart terreace,
but a garden wins everytime also dont forget all those stairs to climb much easier to run a vac around a bungalow!!

I'd go for a garden. Always. Hate terraces anyway, you can always hear what your neighbours are doing.

Based on what you've said I woudl go for the bungalow.
The terraced house will get v little light in at thw back as it faces North and you will get little use from a small, North facing patio.
The bungalow sounds like you coudl do loads with it and never feel the need to move. Also lovely not to have to love on top of your neighbours.

Nightmaer we both hated one each!Them one of the agents showed us a big maisonette with amazing views 3 beds massive open plan living area with a deck over looking brighton!" big beds one en suite and now we ae in a dilemma as we said no flats AAAAAAAAGH!

It would depend on the size of the patio garden and how overlooked it is. I like the sound of the one with the big garden but would also love the charm of the 4 storey.

That maisonette sounds fantastic. Why no flats? I can understand wanting a house and garden with small dcs, but your ds will be off your hands in a few years. You don't need room for paddling pools and bikes and all that sort of stuff.

A tall house with a small north facing garden won't get any sun in it.

Most couples in their 40s would be much happier in the bungalow.

How easy will it be for your son to get to see his friends in city if you decide on bungalow?
