What is Isleworth like (near Richmond, Surrey)???

Just thinking of moving away, have my best friend in richmond but cant afford to live there, so just wondering what Isleworth is like?

Very mixed. There is a very pretty village centre along the river.

does "mixed" mean some of it is awful?

Noisy noisy noisy from aircraft, and will get noisier.

Cheaper is New Malden (good high street, up and coming)

how far is New Malden from richmond?

You need to be careful where in Isleworth - as previous poster has said it is mixed.

Have you looked towards the other way - Hampton?

A bit scuzzy from what I know of it.
What about Kingston? 10 mins drive from Richmond and a fair bit cheaper. It's still on the river and has access to Richmond park.

I wouldn't go for New Malden at all.

New Malden is the other side of Kingston from Richmond

What about Ham, which is just south of Richmond (5 mins drive, if that). There's some affordable housing there and it's on the river and has a pretty common with duck pond.

yes i like Ham too, but it is still quite pricey!
Thought some of Kingston is a bit grim/industrial?

isleworth has some nice bits, some not so nice. upside: lovely by the river, and syon park is great (plus has butterfly farm and soft play place for kids)

i wouldn't worry too much about aircraft - it's a fact of life everywhere in that area of west london.

another idea: i'm in northfields - between ealing and brentford - which is much lovelier than isleworth and much more affordable than richmond and has the adbvantage of being walking distance to ealing which is great for shops etc. brentford also has some nice bits. from here we can get to richmond in 20 mins providing kew bridge isn't snarled.

Isleworth is really nice, IMO. I live in North Sheen and have lived all over the borough. The one thing I would say is that I don't drive and found Isleworth slightly irritating as I felt a bit cut off from things. Kingston would probably be a bit busier. It depends what you want.

Kingston's not at all grim or industrial. It's lovely, leafy, green, full of young families and lovely Victorian houses. Have a walk through Canbury Gardens by the river into the town centre (brilliant shops) and you'll fall in love with it.
North Kingston is better than south though. Too many students around the university.
Bits of Ham are expensive but there are some nice ex-local authority houses which are cheaper. Anywhere around the Common will be expensive.

Btw, I live in Kingston and I love it. It's got everything we could need. Fantastic primary schools too.

Kingston is not affordable though...everyone here is building into their lofts and doing extensions.

You can get a good sized family house in New Malden for a much lower cost. yes its not the prettiest place on the planet...but where is?

Hampton's nice, but I don't really know it well. It's also on the riverside but doesn't really have many shops.

about 230k and i need a large 2 bed house or a nice 3 bed flat!!!

Isleworth is ok, but some bits are better than others. I also think the aurcraft noise is louder there than in some other parts of SW London. Hampton is nice, and Hampton Hill is even nicer. Teddington is also nice, as is Twickenham.

BTW, Ham is lovely but.... be aware that it can be a bit inaccesible - no train links and the roads get very very busy. We considered it, as it has a nice almost villagey feel about it - but we were put off by the transport.

You could probably afford something in Brentford for your budget I think. Next to Isleworth, but closer to Ealing, Chiswick and Kew. Right by the river for lovely walks, good bus routes to Richmond etc. It can be a bit hit and miss, but some lovely streets near the football ground with great old properties - some small houses, some flats.
