Do you paint your rooms in different colours?

Our downstairs is all white, which I love. I like a bit of warmth in bedrooms though. We have just painted our room palest pink and it is nice, but I can't decide if I like it enough for the upstairs hall. Is it better to be uniform? I think that might look more sophisticated. The kids will one day choose their own colours in their bedrooms, but right now most upstairs rooms are still a pale yellowish colour from when we moved it. It is ok but needs refreshing.

Our rooms are all different colours and themes. I'm doing my bedroom burnt orange soon. I like vibrant colours but everyone is different. Key thing is that you like it.

Only the rooms we haven’t painted yet are the same colours (beige). The kitchen is a chalky white but that is because the units are a dark blue. When I do the lounge it won’t be the same colour and the little bathroom downstairs is bright teal. The other bathroom is grey. Each child has chose their own bedroom colours and our bedroom will be a different colour again.

I love colour! My lounge is a navy wallpaper with gold print, neon pink sofa. Bedroom is burgundy. Bathroom dark green (tiles with a jungle print). I have one room with white and gold wallpaper, it’s palm print with neon pink accents. I want to colour wash the dressing room once we finish it in a dusky pink/mustard yellow combo. I do want white kitchen walls but eventually would like to replace our grey inherited kitchen with a coloured one- either a sea green or burgundy. The whole house was grey when we moved in so we’ve been updating it room by room.

Different colours here, although tend to be fairly neutral. Warm colours for North facing rooms, I've even gone for a creamy white for north facing living room ceiling, and room has a much cosier ambiance than when it was brilliant white. I'm currently painting a north facing bedroom and going with a dusty pink, and may colour drench using same paint for ceiling, otherwise it'll be the creamy white for ceiling and woodwork.

All rooms are different, kitchen soft pink, hall powder blue, lounge dark green, bedroom navy blue, bathroom stone, porch green. We love colour.

I like the idea of the downstairs all being white, always looks clean and airy. On programmes, they tend to say keep the same palette, so presumably your pinks etc would be fine. But it's your house, so the only people that matter in this are your family (unless you're planning on moving, but even then, estate agents only say be careful of strong/dark colours or mismatches).

All our rooms are different colours - kitchen coral, hallway yellow, living room cream, bedroom lilac, bathroom mint, DS room green. As damsonjam mentions, you need different shades for different facing rooms as what looks good in one light might look completely different in a different light. For example grey can look nice in well-lit rooms but our kitchen is north facing and was originally grey when we moved in which was completely wrong for the light and came across very depressing, hence perking it up with the coral.

I think colour is the main difference between a show home and a real home (although I’m anally tidy and clean!). But the choice and use of colour is really important. Don’t forget you will always have stuff in your rooms, and that lighting makes a huge difference!

It depends so much on the light in each room, and the size and shape, how the paint will look. Also the quality and intensity of the paint itself. We have painted our hall, landing, front room and all upstairs rooms the same Little Green colour, and because of the light and shadow, it appears like several different colours which work together well. Then different colours in the snug, kitchen and bathrooms.

I've lived in my house 40 years. It was all white at first. Then I gradually went through and painted every room in different colours. My favourite was the green jungle theme in the kitchen.
Then I went all white again. Currently going through every room in either green or pink in various shades.

Both DH and I love colour so ours are all different.

When we bought our current home (a Georgian cottage by the sea) a couple of years ago virtually everything was white. It's a project that we're DIYing so it's not finished yet, but so far we have -

Edward Bulmer Jonquil hall, stairs and landing with a feature wall of William Morris wallpaper (the latter is the only thing of the previous owner's we've retained). Burgundy kitchen/diner with the base cabinets same colour as the walls/woodwork and pink wall cupboards. Colour-drenched mid pink snug with green fireplace. Turquoise/black art nouveau wallpapered TV room. Our bedroom is colour-drenched in F&B De Nimes. Another is Yeabridge Green.

Ultimately the office will be wallpapered in a pattern with seashells and foliage, the bathroom will be a sage green wallpaper with gold owls and the cloakroom painted India Yellow.

When we bought this house the whole house was either grey,black or magnolia one bedroom they had painted around a massive wardrobe. So we decided to decorate before moving in. In the months before moving I had thought out what colours would go in each room. I can’ imagine living my home white washed.

Nothing outrageous but I really dislike bland uniformity.

It is interesting how most people who answered have said they prefer colour. It has made me realise that when my brain doesn't have to cope with lots of different colours, I find that more calming. I really struggle with clutter and mess though, and also too many sounds. I get sensory overload easily. This might be because in my job I deal with lots of noise and multitasking, so when I come home I crave calm and space.

It depends. I’d love to just have my walls fully white and that’s what I went for initially, but my home is fully north facing, next to no natural light and it just looked depressing.

I’ve ended up so far with a room each colour except my bedroom and the living room, which still white.

Not finished yet, but kitchen, living room and hall/stairs/landing (will) all match, while each bedroom or bathroom has its own colour.

You can have it calm but different colours.
I'm in camp colour too. Personally I find white very bland and, in North facing rooms, very depressing.
Dark colours can be like a cuddle in North facing rooms.

No. Entire house is white. My house is too small and I'm too broke and time poor to start mucking around with colour.

Also makes it very easy to touch up small areas as and when with one pot

I have pretty much the same colour throughout ( a v light pinky beige) and add colour through upholstery, art and soft furnishings. I just like a light and airy feel and find a neutral background easier to work with. That’s not to say that I don’t think colour can look good but I do think you need to be good at interiors to make it look good and I don’t have that much talent or energy for it tbh.
