Solution to hold patio doors open?

How to stop my new extension doors flapping around in the wind? They are just standard upvc patio doors, not bifolds or the like.

Have seen restrictors online but it seems this is to stop them opening too wide and hitting the house, whereas am wanting to hold them open.

Cabin hooks are an option but a) I'm not keen to drill into my new house or my new doors! And b) because when the doors are fully open they are probably still at least 45degrees to the outside wall id need a really long hook, or the hook would have to go pretty close to the hinges which would stand up less well against gusts.

Is there a gadget that I can stick on the inside of the hinges to stop the doors closing (having been wedging shoes in temporarily!) or anything else I haven't thought of?

Google is just serving me restrictors...or I'm not googling the right terms.

We did something but it wasn't pretty, just functional. Open the doors, put a piece of wood across the top of them wider than the doors. I think we bought a decking plank for this, nice and thick.

We then attached a small piece of the wood to the underside of the plank on both the inside and outside of the door to wedge the door between them. Repeat on the other side, it holds them open.

We now have new doors and they lock into the outwood position but this is not a cheap option.

I'm using my DH's kettlebells to prop them open. If I just want the breeze and don't mind them partly closed I use a door stay

We have a cord that we tied loops at either end. One end hooks over the inside door handle and the other end hooks over an actual hook we’ve put in the fence about 2 metres away. Works a treat!

You mean the elasticated ones that stretch???

I have one of these-from Amazon-it is plastic so rigid but soft plastic if that makes sense. Stops the door flinging open but also keeps it open.

Not sure if they make a out door version of this?

B&Q have a plastic latch for caravan doors, but it wont let me link it.

Yeah, with hooks on the ends.

Make a loop round the handle and drain pipe type thing? Or even just a small hook on the wall, but it would have to be screwed in, so maybe not a complte no-drill solution

Thanks folks - should have also said as we'on a small slope, when doors are open the bottom is about 1.5 feet above ground level (steps down into garden) so unfortunately kettlebell or similar doorstop type thing not an option.

Doors need to be held fully open (not just for air) for kids and dogs coming in and out.

Think the ropes/bungees could do the trick temporarily at least :)

🤞🤞I’m trying to work out if they’ll fit our French doors.

We use a large watering can!

We have hand rails for steps outside ours, so we have a bungee cord if it’s windy and want them wide open. I’d just want a small gap, we have an elastic band and a baby door drop on it to drop it shutting

We are getting a new conservatory and the sales guy recommended sliding doors as he said this is a common problem. You would think better solutions would have been found by now!

Ours is wedged open with a kitchen chair - but that thing suggested by @Oldieandgoldie looks like it could do the trick!

I would certainly use cabin hooks.

If you don't want to, drill and plug the walls near where the doors fully open, and screw in vine eyes. Then you can use bungees, pieces or rope, or anything else, perhaps tied round the handles.

Magnetic door stops. They do need to be screwed into the door and wall / floor a door at floor level but work well.

Install cabin hooks because once it's done it's done and you'll use them all the time. We had then added as part of the build.
Or use a flowerpot, or a big beach pebble or similar, but you risk scratching the doors.

Our step was crumbling away when we moved in, so had to have something done.

In the end we had a full width step built under the door and overlapping at the side. You can easily put something like kettlebells/full watering can on them to prop doors open.

How would thaT work if they are 1.5ft off the ground?
