Solution to hold patio doors open?

How to stop my new extension doors flapping around in the wind? They are just standard upvc patio doors, not bifolds or the like.

Have seen restrictors online but it seems this is to stop them opening too wide and hitting the house, whereas am wanting to hold them open.

Cabin hooks are an option but a) I'm not keen to drill into my new house or my new doors! And b) because when the doors are fully open they are probably still at least 45degrees to the outside wall id need a really long hook, or the hook would have to go pretty close to the hinges which would stand up less well against gusts.

Is there a gadget that I can stick on the inside of the hinges to stop the doors closing (having been wedging shoes in temporarily!) or anything else I haven't thought of?

Google is just serving me restrictors...or I'm not googling the right terms.

Look a baby proof gadgets,we had a U shaped hard foam thing that we put in the door hinge ,it was an anti slam device from Mothercare.

We have cabin hooks, quite long but they were installed by the fitters at the same time as the doors. No issues at all and we are now 20 years on from their installation.

I had mine installed a couple of months ago and they came with restrictors, I’m surprised yours didn’t. They don’t stop the doors from opening all the way but they do hold them in place wherever you put them - similar to the mechanism on modern windows that means you don’t need the old fashioned casement stays anymore. Can you contact the company that provided your doors and see if they can fit them?

We just use wooden door wedges.

I assume you mean French doors, not patio doors which slide? We have French doors and a step,there's a rail one side (previous owner was blind) I use a bunji that side, the other side,a heavy plant pot on the step.

We just got these recently on Amazon. We have two little kids so I was terrified of the patio doors either swinging on them, or their fingers getting caught. Game changer! These ones are out of stock, but there's loads of similar ones from different sellers.

You've said that you don't want to drill into the new house, but we have these kinds of "open out" doors, and the builder attached little clips to the walls wither side of the doors so that they are held flush to the wall when opened all the way.

I screwed an old pair of wellies to a block of wood, leaving a gap the width of the door between the wellies. Fill them with pebbles and they are weighty enough to hold the door but still soft sided so the door isn't marked

Please don't. The recoil when bungee cords ping and the hooks go flying is terrible. They actually warn about this on the label - at least they do in Australia.

Our bifolds have magnets on them, presumably you can get them fitted for other doors too.

My bungee cord solution. I attach it to drain pipe but a hook could be used.

I never managed to work out how to wedge it in the door frame, but the person whose house it was just easily bunged it in and it worked.

For safety reasons, I strongly recommend installing proper, high quality cabin hooks or similar. Especially since you mentioned that you have children and dogs. A gust of wind can cause a door to slam shut very suddenly if not properly secured and little fingers, tails or heads could be badly injured.

We use an extendable curtain pole between the open doors.
