Hello. First time posting here. Looking to get quotes for ac installation (not the portable ones). Anyone got them and how much did it cost? Any companies to recommend? I have a mid terraced house with 3 double bedrooms in SW London.

Ours was done 3 years ago, we have 9 units in total. If my memory serves me correctly it was £16K. We’re not a million miles away from you and used a company called Thaw (I think that’s how they spelt).

Thanks @MauriceTheMussel i called them and they’re sending someone next week to quote. When did you get yours installed please and was it in the summer?

Thanks @Icanthinkformyselfthanks they’re closed already when i saw your reply so i will call tomorrow. Did you get yours installed in the summer? I wonder if it’s a bad idea to get quotes during the heat wave!

Had the quote around late March/early April and it was installed late April (this year)

Guy called Lawrence came round to measure up and was lovely! The guys who came to install were polite, quick, and the guy they sent out to make good a hole incorrectly drilled left the wall immaculate.

Ours was installed in August as I recall. You’ll probably find there is quite a wait for installation so I doubt when you get your quote will be affected by the heatwave.

OP, if you are in a midterrace house in SW London, then chances are you will need planning permission to install an external aircon unit, and chances are you won't get it. I don't remember the exact rules, but the external unit would have to be a certain distance from the border of the property, and that alone rules out installation in most London terraced homes. Plus there are also rules about noise, so you basically cannot install it in a quiet backgarden, but might be able to overlooking a busy noisy road.

If you search the planning portal of various councils, you will see that there are planning applications on aircon, and they typically include an expensive noise audit, to assess what the normal noise level is, and to confirm that your unit wouldn't add too much noise.

Aircon installers don't tell you this because otherwise they'd have no business.

My solution has been to install a water cooled aircon. Not evaporative cooling (tha fans which spray water), but proper aircon, which dissipates heat with a water compressor instead of an external fan.
