Just need a few clues as where to start looking, DH is keen on the area as it has good links to London but not to far from the sea.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

TIA

I commuted from Winchester to London for nearly a decade (!) before deciding that I just couldn't stand spending three and a half hours a day commuting. I live in Fulflood and my walk to the station platform is exactly 12 minutes. The train takes an hour. It takes at least 10 minutes to get on the Drain and get to Bank. Then another 10 or 15 minutes walk at the other end. The trains are absolutely rammed - you have to leave the station at 7am to get a seat in the morning and the trains coming home at 5pm/5.30pm are often full to overflowing too. It means leaving the house at 6:45am and not getting home until 7:15pm. If you had little kids you'd never see them. Looking on the bright side, the schools are good, if stuffed to bursting. Make sure you live close enough to one to practically guarantee a place. St Bede's is the one for Hyde (I think), Western C of E for Fulflood. Personally, although everyone I know loves Hyde to death (and I like the Hyde Tavern and the King Alf a lot) I wouldn't want to live there - maybe I just don't like people like me enough! Also, check the flood maps - Hyde is low lying and Winchester has had a couple of reasonably impressive floods in the 10 years I've been here - St Bede's has been flooded out before now. But, having said all that, I love Winchester!

Hi guys its me again, more questions on Winchester.

We are hoping to get to Winchester this summer, with this in mind I have been trying to find places for my 2 dcs, I have tried the following schools:

Western
Weekes
St Bede
All Saints

And all of them currently have waiting lists!!!!! I am in shock and can believe it can be so difficult to find a school that both children can attend.

Can anyone offer any advice on where to try next? I need to be fairly close to the station for dhs sake, am I missing something?

Any advice offered gratefully received. TIA

Hi unconvinced. Sorry I don't have much advice but thought I'd answer so you didn't feel so alone! Have you tried St Faiths? Its more St Cross area, so probably need a bike to get to the station but its meant to be good. Back in the day when my mum was teacher training (!!!) st peter's was also good but its catholic (if thats your bag...) and now out near badger farm i think....

sorry not to help more. Hope we can meet up in Winchester sometime
