Just need a few clues as where to start looking, DH is keen on the area as it has good links to London but not to far from the sea.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

TIA

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 15:54

I must really be gagging for a pint

DontlookatmeImshy · 13/05/2008 15:57

Looks like you've already had one too many

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 15:58

that was MOST odd

aDad · 13/05/2008 15:59

you zoned out for a while in a haze of nostalgia!

aDad · 13/05/2008 16:00

must have set a record for how many posts you can make in a set time

BeauLocks · 13/05/2008 16:01

I clicked on this because I have some mates in/near Winchester and thought "ooh, that's a really busy thread"

Egg · 13/05/2008 16:01

BLOODY HELL! I saw this thread and saw how many posts and wondered how I had missed it for so long . Now I realise it was just CD gagging for a pint .

Unconvinced - we moved to Winchester from SW London last summer. DH still works in City of London, I am a SAHM (DS1 is 26 months and DTs are 4 months). We moved because we had been thinking of leaving London and needed to move anyway as DTs were on the way, and could not afford a bigger house where we lived in SW London.

DH prefers his commute now to when it was 15 mins (it is 55 mins direct non stop to Waterloo from Winchester). You do need to get an early train to guarantee a seat tho.

It really and honestly is lovely here. I am so glad we moved and only wished we moved earlier.

We live in Hyde. It is just full of "people like us", parents with youngish children. We are within 10 min walk of town centre, and have a big park and swings within spitting distance. The schools are apparently good although obv my DCs are to young for me to speak from experience.

I started a similar thread back when we were thinking of moving. I will find it and link to it. A lot of people offered advice.

If you want to be within an easy walk of station you need to look in Fulflood or Hyde I think.

aDad · 13/05/2008 16:02

CD's advice was good btw

before the alcoholic interlude

Egg · 13/05/2008 16:05

CD don't forget I am just a min walk away from The King Alfred . Ooh I could wander down there now for a nice cold pint.

Well I could if I didn't have two sleeping babies and one tv watching toddler .

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 16:07

Yes well I think they ruined the King Alfred tbh

It used to be a real boozer
When I lived in monk's road in oooh when was it

Mid 80s I guess
i had a room smaller than your thumb that my mate's dad charged me £12 a week for

Egg · 13/05/2008 16:10

Every time i walk past No 1 I think of you and your debauched days there. I have NEVER been to the King Alfred despite having lived here for nearly 9 months . DH likes the Hyde Tavern. I have only been out twice since we moved .

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 16:11

Oh no
poo
why?:

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 16:11

do you need a baby sitter?
I bet you a billion dollars my mum would do it
she is bloody fab and amazing with kids

Egg · 13/05/2008 16:15

Didn't bother when I was pregnant. Now have the twins and did go out for first time 2 weeks ago, they babysit at nursery but as DD still has 10pm feed we figured it is a bit much. Where is your mum?

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 16:18

Avington

Tommy · 13/05/2008 16:20

lol Countessdracula - was going to say "get them in won't you...." but I'm not sure I could keep up with you

VaginaShmergina · 13/05/2008 16:20

I am in Alton. 45 minutes to the coast, 20 minutes to Winchester, and an hour commute to London and the beginning of the line so no bun fight for a seat !!

unconvinced · 13/05/2008 16:21

Hi all, just got back from picking the kids up, and saw the thread with 8 pages of comments, wow I was thinking people are really responsive in the Winchester area. However it was countessdracila gagging for a pint!!!!!

Am looking for house min 3 beds, but need a study area for DH as he often works from home. I like character houses but am not adverse to modern if they are a good design. Need to be near station and good schools for 2 dcs 7 and 9.

CD my budget is about 400k.

EGG, I am very happy for you that everything has worked out well, hopefully we will feel the same when we get there!

I have been looking on internet and there seems to be a few propertys around St Coss, and the Fulfood area will now Hyde to my list.

Any more suggestions, keep em coming.

CountessDracula · 13/05/2008 16:25
