What do I do?! Im pregnant and don’t want to touch it ….

What do I do with her toys ?!

weirdly there’s no other sign of there being any mice - no droppings or anything. Just a dead mouse by the chair 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Do you have a cat? Put a plastic bag over your hands and use some card or paper to remove it.

shellyleppard · 11/10/2024 10:51

Scoop it up with a dustpan and brush straight into a plastic bag??

Nope - no cat!

The worst of it is it’s obviously been there a while because 🤢🤢🤢…. We’re mid renovation so there’s loads of stuff everywhere and I was finally getting a chance to sort things a bit ….

Drop a plastic bag over it and pick it up, chuck it in the outside bin
You could give the floor where it was a wipe with milton or similar and anything else in the vicinity but you really don't need to worry about it

IMBCRound2 · 11/10/2024 10:59

Not usually squeamish but pregnancy and the mice mould aren’t the best combo!

it’s also a HUGE mouse …. (Former aid worker, spent a reasonable amount of time living in slums so it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with them and this thing is HUGE)

OP posts:
Reallybadidea · 11/10/2024 11:03

Are you sure it's not a rat then? Mice are generally tiny

Geneticsbunny · 11/10/2024 11:12

If it's huge it's a baby rat. Pic?

IMBCRound2 · 11/10/2024 11:15

so there’s some poo around the mouse itself … it’s defo mouse poo. ( we had a rat just wander in our front door last year, middle of the day, scared the life out of me , and then get caught in the pantry while I screamed my head off and literally chucked the baby out of the room! So I’ve seen my share rat poo! )

You’ve probably cut it off from its home with the renovations. Use a glove, kitchen roll or plastic bag and scoop it up and then find your dettol. We have cats and have had many gifts throughout the years in every room in the house 🤦🏻‍♀️

IMBCRound2 · 11/10/2024 11:24

Ignore my hideous carpet - waiting until I’m done with babies and potty training!

You've got two issues.

  1. Getting rid of it - that's straightforward, use a plastic bag.

  2. Finding out if there are more - that's the main priority.

Isobel201 · 11/10/2024 11:45

I've had my cat try bringing in three mice. They don't carry diseases like rats do, so you should be okay. I swept them up with a dust pan and brush and binned the bodies. I closed the cat flap for a couple of days just to get her out of the habit, letting her out manually and inviting her back in making sure she had no mouse in her mouth lol. I did think at first that they were trying to come in because the weather is getting colder, but after I opened the cat flap again and the cat stopped doing it, so it would have been her. Try putting down traps if you are worried about rats and mice in general.

IMBCRound2 · 11/10/2024 11:50

Ordered some traps the second I saw it !

it’s weird there’s no signs other than directly around it - but I’m going to put out traps and keep an even closer eye out. Having the roof done today and somehow squeezed myself up in the roof to see how the work was going and even there there’s no signs….

id definitely think it was a cat if I had one! And it’s in an upstairs room so it’d be surprised if it just ran in?

Snowdrops17 · 11/10/2024 11:52

Put a small bit of chocolate on the traps if there is more that will get them

Onagoldenautumnday · 11/10/2024 11:59

Are you sure that's not a rat?
I can't examine your pic because I'm too squeamish.
What I do with a mouse if brought in and dropped by cat is put something over it - big , old bowl and wait for someone else to dispose.
Or do you need to be in that room and it's in the way ,?
I wouldn't be able to dispose of it myself.

Didn’t want to get too close myself but I’m reasonably certain it’s a mouse !

Im a solo mum so there’s no one else to do it - I have thought about asking one of the many builders who are currently in various parts of the house but that just feels a bit pathetic !

OP posts:
Mossstitch · 11/10/2024 12:17

You say your having the roof done, is there anyway it may have dropped down out of there as it looks like been dead a while.

Defo ask the builders, sure they won't mind at all, reward them with biscuits or cake and a brew whilst they do it😀

Looks way to big to be a mouse. Maybe the renovations has disturbed it. Can you get pest control to do a survey?

I would literally spray everything with anti bac spray and wash all you can.

Sure builders would help you out.

Trinity65 · 11/10/2024 12:22

Awww bless You

Ask one of the workmen, OP.

I would do so as they make me squirm (anything dead makes me squirm to be honest though)

It looks like a baby rat though.. just my opinion.

soupfiend · 11/10/2024 12:22

looks like a small rat to me

Not uncommon, sorry OP but they are everywhere

sadly not - three story house and this is on the second story …

that’s the mystery to me is how it looks like that after a relatively short time ? I moved the boxes in about ten days ago and I’m sure I would have seen it given the location, room vacuumed before I did that so how it got to that state is beyond me?

OP posts:
Todaywasbetter · 11/10/2024 12:38

Tonight, set your mobile phone onto video leave the light on in the room and record what goes on if there’s any more activity which I doubt you’ll find the entry points. That’s what I did and it works.

Edited

had them out when the rat came in - they were a bit useless, think they passed me off as a hysterical female until he saw the size of it!!

I think I need to get all the boxes and stuff cleared and then I can get someone round once there’s some clear space ….

Mask, rubber gloves and double plastic bag used like a dog poo bag. Tie up the bag then dispose of mask and gloves at same time. We just found a dead mouse last week. Found some poo dotted around, cleaned everything and put out traps but nothing caught and no more poo, so hopefully just one. It does look a bit rat like, our mouse was desperately cute although gross and dead, that thing doesn't look too cute at all...

Onagoldenautumnday · 11/10/2024 13:16

Oh OP honestly ask one of the workmen.
Just phrase it along the lines of "could you bear to " as just because they're men doesn't mean they're not phobic /squeamish like me .
Though as we all know , easier to do something like this for others than for yourself.
It couldn't have been in one of the boxes , could it....
Really sorry to raise such a thought.
