What do I do?! Im pregnant and don’t want to touch it ….

What do I do with her toys ?!

weirdly there’s no other sign of there being any mice - no droppings or anything. Just a dead mouse by the chair 🤮🤮🤮🤮

I find a long handled dustpan and brush ideal for this. I have cats so I'm used to it! Also works for pigeons.

Could it have been in one of the boxes you moved into the room?

Worth checking to see if they are open or have chewed corners where it could have worked its way out...

Oh OP honestly ask one of the workmen.
Just phrase it along the lines of "could you bear to " as just because they're men doesn't mean they're not phobic /squeamish like me .
Though as we all know , easier to do something like this for others than for yourself.
It couldn't have been in one of the boxes , could it....
Really sorry to raise such a thought.

Nope - boxes were all new (getting the loft boarded as well so I had sorted everything into boxes and stuck them in the nursery as I went … which is why I’m so surprised I didn’t notice anything sooner as I was in there sorting all her small clothes / my non-maternity stuff

That is a rat.
Mice are tiny.

Tel12 · 11/10/2024 13:24

Mice have quite a distinctive smell. You'll also find droppings where they've been and possibly scratching noises at night. Are there any food sources? We had them in the garage, attracted by the bird food

IlovePond · 11/10/2024 13:46

Hi,

If you haven’t tried Rentokil, I recommend them. It might be possible to send a picture to Rentokil or similar to identify what your intruder is, but it looks quite a bit bigger than the ones we had.

there’s food in the kitchen but there’s no evidence of anything there - food isnt allowed out of the kitchen for this very reason…

we live rurally and there’s definitely rats/mice in the fields around our house

I'd also ask one of the workmen!

We had a house cat who would Potter in the garden unsupervised if you were around

Was lying on the sofa when I looked towards the lounge and there was a brown shape on the floor- shed brought in a shrew and it was dead

Couldn't bring myself to pick it up so used a brush and dustpan and swept it up 😂

Fortunately we've continued having indoor cats so don't have "prey" brought in

I'd also be worried there was more where it came from especially if it's a rat!

Dip it in sugar and eat it you need the protein.

I know this isn't the point but I never understand why people call their babies room "the nursery". Isn't it just your kids room?

so I set it up as a baby room (cot, changing table, nursing chair ….)

we’ve co-slept ever since 😂 at some point in these renovations, she’ll get her big kid bed and then it will feel like the children’ s room rather than a room set up for a baby (who typically at the point that room is set up is a uterus potato rather than individual with their own interests and preferences?)

I have no idea if that makes sense to anyone else or if that’s a distinct other people make? But that’s what it is in my mind - nursery pre-individualisation, kids room post.

Never mind the semantics 🙂.... What did you do about the rodent 😫

I (wo)man’d up and got rid of it - basically in a full hazmat suit. Put down traps and once the roof’s done, I’ll get the boxes up and someone out to have look.

Glad I didn’t ask the workman - their boss ended up being absolutely horrible to me and made me cry ! (He wanted me to go up and inspect the roof and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t going to be standing on chairs and ladders to go in a small roof space whilst on my own with a toddler and pregnant and just kept yelling at me to go up and check so he could complete the forms ?! Even if I felt safe balancing on chairs , what was the toddler going do while I wandered around the roof? )

What a pig. Bet he doesn't sleep the sleep of a person with an untroubled mind.
Too late now but I find humming helps when carrying out icky tasks.
Well done you !!!

IMBCRound2 · 12/10/2024 20:23

Apparently there’s an increase of rats in the country which is just adding insult to injury - whhhhhhy?! Just feels like I’ll get rid of this one and another plague will descend …

but very glad it’s in the bin and hopefully it’s just a one off despite the odds

If there were several you would hear them!
Almighty racket. So fingers crossed.
