LVT Flooring quote is this reasonable?

trainingdaydenz · 16/07/2024 17:38

They said £100 per square foot to glue down and for flooring. Not including tear up and dispose of current flooring.

They don't use the top brands like Amtico, Karndean. Apparently not great quality compared to what they use.

Only one I've heard of that they use is Polyflor (which I like) the other stuff brands they use I've never heard of and that is unnerving.

They won't break down quote into materials and labour as apparently "it confuses the customers."

What do you think is this reasonable or not?

£100 a square meter sorry

I’d go elsewhere. We had our living room done with amtico last year and not only was the quote broken down but we paid the fitter separately!

trainingdaydenz · 16/07/2024 18:23

@LoveSandbanks Do you mean you bought the flooring yourself from a store and then just found and paid for the labour after?

We paid just over 3K for Karndean 2 years ago. Was way more than 30m2 which would equate to the price you were quoted, so I think yours sounds expensive. At a guess ours is around 45m2. My quote also had a breakdown for the product, screed, primer, adhesive and labour.

joelmillerswatch · 16/07/2024 18:42

Hmmmm I wouldn’t be sure about that, I’d try elsewhere

emsyj37 · 16/07/2024 18:45

No up to date info on cost, but be careful what you choose - we got LVT for our kitchen and the surface scratched really badly really quickly and it never looked clean. I would never have it again. There are probably different textures/finishes that wear better, but just a heads up to ask about that before you go ahead.

NewbieOnHolidays · 16/07/2024 19:25

We are having engineered wood fitted for £80/sqm (supply and fit, so all in), were told LVT would be way cheaper

TemuSpecialBuy · 16/07/2024 19:31

would LOVE to know what they are using’?
my amtico would survive a nuclear fallout… its in perfect condition after years of abuse.

if they aren’t charging labour and materials separately beware

Toooldtoworry · 16/07/2024 19:32

Is it evocore premium? That stuff is VERY expensive but incredibly good. Although no requirement to glue down.

Crazymadchickenlady · 16/07/2024 19:45

We have amtico and it seems to be pretty bomb proof. I would be very wary of unknown brands and go for amtico at that price. We paid £80 a square metre fitted but that was a couple of years ago.

No we bought the flooring and labour from
the shop they quoted for both but we paid the fitter separately as he was self employed.

mitogoshi · 16/07/2024 20:12

We paid £68 per square metre plus £200 to the fitter all in

CatsForLife · 16/07/2024 21:49

I’ve just paid just under £50sq m for Karndean and paying my builder to fit. It’s worked out cheaper than all in. Two companies quoted me £3,800 to supply and fit LVT (not Karndean) in space of about 50sq m.

They use
J2
Brampton Chase
Plus Floor
Polyflor

and if a customer insists on Amtico they only use Spacia.

The lack of transparency has put me off and the excuse of it confuses customers to breakdown the quote is quite patronising imo.

Point taken thank you.
I'm toying between laminate and LVT now. I need to do some more research.

Ok so this small company of 2 seems to be extortionate then.

I've just spoken to dB who is an LVT fitter. He said that the brands they used are good and he would generally cost it as 100 pm but that would include the floor preparation. Floor prep would include ripping up old flooring and a latex smoothing compound. It might be a little more if the floor needs to be prepped with plywood. However, trades cost differently in different parts of the country.

I have lots of LVT in my house as DB is lovely! I think it's a great hard-wearing flooring, looks lovely and lasts years and years. I couldn't bear to have tappy laminate.

Longhotsummers · 16/07/2024 22:14

We paid £45sqm recently at Tapi with fitting on top and the screed levelling stuff extra too. We paid fitter/screener separately but they were freelance contractors for Tapi. £100 sounds v expensive.

Normallynumb · 16/07/2024 22:41

I have Polyflor Camaro It's great and my fitter said the spec is so similar to Karndean that he also has it

Normallynumb · 16/07/2024 22:43

Forgot to add £100 per m is expensive

Inlaw · 16/07/2024 22:45

We got 100sqm for 5.5k. Karndean Van Gogh herringbone including disposal and screeds. It’s beautiful and bombproof. Well worth the spend and very happy with it.

ginislife · 16/07/2024 22:52

I paid £5k for 72 sq m of Karndean 6 years ago. Supply & fit plus screeding all the floors. I'd had a massive house refurb and everywhere was empty to let them do it and I buggered off to Turkey for a week. I walked in the house at 3am after a very long day and cried because it looked so amazing.
My mum & dad had Amtico flooring in their kitchen about 50 years ago and it still looked as good as new the day we sold the house in 2018 !

Gooseysgirl · 16/07/2024 22:52

Just had our hallway and kitchen-diner done in Karndean, (1930s semi) about £2k including latex and fitting. Builder had already done the ply underneath.

Gooseysgirl · 16/07/2024 22:53

It was LVT 'Knight Tile'

trainingdaydenz · 16/07/2024 23:20

So it looks like they are extortionate then, considering what everyone else got for £100 per square meter.

I'm cancelling the appointment. If I'm paying that I want it all in and a top brand like Amtico.
