Moved 2 weeks ago and still not finished.

I feel like I have completely run out of steam

8 years. Some boxes just got tucked to one side.Grin

dudsville · 31/07/2022 18:50

Depends. We moved in but had redecorating to book in, so we only unpacked some things.

nancy75 · 31/07/2022 18:50

We did ours in a few days BUT we moved on 15th December & that does put a bit of a rocket up your bum!

KarrotKake · 31/07/2022 18:57

Ah.....

How long did it take to pack??? We're moving in Thursday.......
I was going to do Tuesday and Wed. Do I need to add in Monday as well??

Last time I moved (no furniture that time) it took a day to pack, and empty all the boxes. That did involve leaving piles of stuff in the middle of the floor so the boxes could be reused.... I have enough boxes this time, since I've had more than 3 days notice!!!

nancy75 · 31/07/2022 18:59

@KarrotKake how big is your house? How many kids? Packing takes a lot longer than unpacking!

KarrotKake · 31/07/2022 19:04

2 kids, 2 adults.

As I said, last time we packed and unpacked in 1 day (it was hellish) without furniture. So I guessed 2 days packing, then the movers will deal with furniture and boxes...... that's 3 tomes longer to do half the amount.......
Am I totally wrong??? It was only 4 years ago.....

nancy75 · 31/07/2022 19:07

It might be ok if you live in a very minimalist house…😬

Loveatortie · 31/07/2022 19:08

Moved into our house 22 years ago still have unpacked boxes in the loft,be like Christmas if we ever get round to it 😁

KarrotKake · 31/07/2022 19:09

OK. I'll add in Monday!! That's 4 times longer. Better make sure it's enough time 😶‍🌫️
Thank you for the reality check!

If you finish early it doesn’t matter, but if you’re still packing when the movers turn up it’s a nightmare! Good luck!

About six months. But that was deliberate as there was no point unpacking tens of boxes of books until the walls had been painted and floors carpeted. We did the majority in a few weeks but deliberately left the books and a few other things until furniture was permanently in place.

BarrelOfOtters2 · 31/07/2022 19:21

2 years till last box unpacked. To be fair we were renovating. Still everything not in right place.

but all the main stuff in 2 days, we had family help.

Ditto, moved on Dec 13th!

I’d say we’d unpacked almost everything within two weeks bar a big mass of books in the spare room that’s still there seven months later. But we had the luxury of moving into a bigger house so it felt like there was space to put everything, rather than planning and stressing. Plus we didn’t need to decorate.

Coffeaddict · 31/07/2022 19:22

Been here 6 months. Still multiple boxes that remain unpacked.

LaChatte · 31/07/2022 19:29

Another one saying 8 years here. We had a little celebration to mark the occasion.

cushioncovers · 31/07/2022 20:27

About a year before every box was unpacked. Been here 2 years now and I'm still moving stuff around and deciding where I want things to go.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 31/07/2022 20:39

A couple of days. I am quite minimal, and live on my own though.

fakename13778 · 31/07/2022 20:43

We moved inn6 years ago, there are still unpacked boxes in the spare room 🤦‍♀️

Isseywith3witchycats · 31/07/2022 20:52

3 years and still got boxes in the spare room we havent opened finally found the iron a few weeks ago

Chewbecca · 31/07/2022 21:08

Moved in 2007, still have unpacked boxes.

JaffavsCookie · 31/07/2022 21:21

Moved, had dc 2 days later, moved again 5 years later, chucked all the stuff ( lots) that was still in boxes from previous move

dingit · 31/07/2022 21:24

3 days. I cried with exhaustion. Gave birth 3 days later, so glad we did

Rutland2022 · 31/07/2022 21:27

We had 80% done in first week but we need substantial changes to be finished before we can finish (office, garage sized shed, new kitchen) plus we have no bookcases and need ones building in to alcoves which we can’t afford yet. So it will be years before the books are unboxed sadly!
We have been in 9 weeks.

MoHunter · 31/07/2022 21:33

We're moving house this year, after living in our current house for 8 years. There are boxes in our garage that have never been unpacked. 🤣

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 31/07/2022 21:34

The first 8/9 moves I did it all in 24 hours - just kept going. Last time it took a couple of weeks. This time I’m two weeks in, and reckon another two weeks to go - BUT !!!!! this time we have had absolutely zero furniture to bring with us, no curtains eat for us, not even toilet roll holders or seats, so I’ve spent probably 10 of the last 14 days either buying or building furniture, just so we have somewhere to sleep/sit/put things away in.
