Wall mounted TV on chimney breast anyone?

Has anyone ever mounted a wall mounted tv on a chimney breast successfully? (NOT a working fireplace).

We have a Samsung Frame which looks like art work, and the focal point of our new living room is the chimney breast so I'm hoping we can fit it there.

If over a fire it'll be too high for comfort.

DaffodilsHouse · 04/02/2022 13:36

It's the right height, we've checked that. The issue is whether we can hang it there.

Yes we have 2 TVs mounted like this. The builders did the plug as obviously you don’t want trailing wires.

stuntbubbles · 04/02/2022 13:42

Logistically successfully, or aesthetically successfully?

ScottishAJ · 04/02/2022 14:16

I think they mean logistically as it's not a normal hollow wall?

buckwheat · 04/02/2022 15:19

Yes, we have our Samsung Frame over working fireplace (woodburner). There is a beam separating them so it doesn’t get too hot. No problem fitting it - we did it ourselves. Our chimney breast is plastered over so you can’t see the wire. Been there for over a year now no problem. Looks great too.

onedayoranother · 04/02/2022 15:20

Yes I have my frame TV above my fireplace. It only has one thin transparent wire which you can only see five inches of then it runs alongside the fireplace and into the cupboard next to it with the box.
I bought it from John Lewis and they installed it.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 04/02/2022 16:41

Are you detached? If it backs onto a neighbour’s house it will act as an echo chamber into their house. Lots of rage filled threads on AIBU about this

DaffodilsHouse · 04/02/2022 17:25

We also bought it from John Lewis who installed it in our current place. However I recall they were very specific about the type of wall they could fit it to - hence my asking. We have got a handyman this time to help us move so he might be able to do it regardless.

No we are semi- detached so this would be on the side with neighbours. Has anyone experienced this echo chamber issue in a terrace? Is it any worse than having a tv attached to an adjoining wall?

Tomnooktoldmeto · 04/02/2022 18:02

If you have a quick check on AIBU there are regular threads from seriously pissed of neighbours as the chimney funnels it upstairs waking people. It’s not they way to make friends with new neighbours

nancybotwinbloom · 04/02/2022 18:17

Yes I have o e there currently as does my next door adjoining neighbour.
I can't hear their tv and they cannot hear mine.

nancybotwinbloom · 04/02/2022 18:18

What does your frame look like? It sounds really unusual?

nancybotwinbloom · 04/02/2022 18:19

Do you mean like the attached? Or am I totally off the mark?

Mine is a Samsung also

BonnyandPoppy · 04/02/2022 18:34

I have a frame in our kitchendiner too. We had a channel made and have a cupboard underneath for the box. Looks great. It’s not on a chimney breast though. The wire is so thin you could make a channel yourself and plaster over it or live with the wire showing.

@nancybotwinbloom it looks like this (pic). You can have photo albums too but we like the artworks as they are so realistic. So many people don't realise it's a tv!

So @Tomnooktoldmeto things there will be complaints if we attach our tv to a chimney breast on an adjoining wall but @nancybotwinbloom says not a problem. Does anyone else have experience of this?

OP posts:
Tomnooktoldmeto · 04/02/2022 19:45

There have been numerous threads over the years about adjoining chimney breasts over on AIBU why don’t you just go and look?

CellophaneFlower · 04/02/2022 20:07

I have my TV on chimney breast adjoining neighbour. If it funnels to upstairs, surely I'd hear it myself as my bedroom is directly above? I never hear it when in bed and my partner is watching TV. Perhaps it depends on build quality/age of house (mine's 60s) and whether TV viewer is hard of hearing?

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 04/02/2022 20:09

Ours is fitted on the chimney breast and we have a coal fire but we only use it in the winter and even then it's only lit about 5 days in total.
It's been up 3 years so far

A580Hojas · 04/02/2022 20:13

You want to make your television the focal point of your living room? Why would anyone do that?

DaffodilsHouse · 04/02/2022 20:24

@A580Hojas you've totally missed the point of the thread. The OP said it's a Samsung frame which looks like a painting, not a tv. There's a picture further up of the painting.

Our tv is mounted on a chimney breast, mounted with a thin wall bracket, been there since 2012 with no issues. Not the point of the thread, but it has a sound bar below, complete with separate sub-woofer - our neighbours can't hear it, yet I can hear it in my bedroom, which is above and across from the living room.

Why not? We’re all different so just because it doesn’t suit you doesn’t make it wrong
