Is £15K good for plastic sash windows?

Hello, I'm planning to change all seven windows in my Victorian terraced house in London with UPVC sash windows. I've been quoted £17,000 by Everest and £15,000 by Anglian. Is this a good deal?

I'm not sure about the pricing, but I'd strongly suggest getting quotes from local independent fitters.

The likes of Everest and Anglian are as I understand it higher than average (and are keen to offer there own financing plans).

It’s quite pricey. We’re about 30 mins outside the m25 and got 8 windows (one bay) and two external doors for £9k

Why wouldn't you either repair the original windows or put in wooden sash windows rather than buy horrible plastic windows? You must have spent a fortune on the house if you are in London so why not do things properly?

Get a third quote from an independent company. There are loads.

Was that Everests starting position or have you haggled?

I'd get a quote from an independent window company.

We used Duration windows about 4yrs ago, three aluminium sash windows were about £1000 total. Obviously size, materials (aluminium not uPVC) will change costs.

They were great to deal with, no sales pressure at all.

It seems a bit steep, but its hard to judge without visiting site and imagine that also includes and platform/scaffolding.

I second the above information about getting quotes from local independent fitters.

I would look elsewhere. The big nationals
charge a fortune for average products. Look for a Masterframe UPVC sash window accredited installer, these are the most authentic looking sashes.

There are no sash windows in the property. The previous owners would have removed them. Also, you'd be amazed how good some of the plastic sash windows look - a few of our neighbours have them and you cannot tell them apart from wood. The issue with timber sash windows is that they cost an absolute fortune and are not ideal for keeping your house warm.

You need to look local to you, OP. I’m not on London. Ask friends, colleagues, on FB, on NextDoor etc

Speak to local suppliers. We got £10k for 9 windows including two bays and French windows.

We are in West London and got quotes from Anglian and Everest that were waaay higher than local firms. We asked for recommendations on our street WhatsApp group and went from there.

We are 30 mins from London, South East, and paid around £8k in 2017 for 6 windows, creating and installing a new external door, bricking up the old external door and bricking up an internal door.

We used these guys last year for sash windows. Delivery time was 2 months (may be longer now). Delivery was a shambles but quality of the window was excellent

That's a crazy amount. We got 2 quotes from local companies and one from Anglian. Anglian was 4x the local firms, and "specially discounted" down to double.
Perfectly happy with local company. We paid around 5.5k with composite front door. West London.

We have a figure in our minds of £500 per opening window when we start to haggle. They start off at 20k we say we couldn't possibly spend more than 5k then it's all settled c. 8k.

We paid 4.5k per wooden period double glazed sash window (conservation area so UPVC not allowed). That’s a lot of money for plastic.

Have a look at Timberlook windows and see if they have the sort of thing you want. We recently had our cottage windows replaced and they look fantastic. They recommended me some independent fitters in my area so I’m sure they’d be able to do the same for you
