Holiday home locations easily accessible from SW London

Just day dreaming really...

We have friends with houses in the New Forest and the Witterings but they seem too far to go for just a weekend

Where else is nice and easily accessible from SW London?

Isle of Wight.

Bruton. Love it!

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 31/12/2021 20:54

You try my town. We’ve been inundated by people moving here from London/ buying holiday homes here. But I’m not sharing because the house prices have rocketed and I want the young people who live here to be in with a chance of being able to afford to get on the property ladder…

FurierTransform · 31/12/2021 21:30

They're only what, 1.5- 2 hrs drive tops from SW London? I'd say they are perfect.

Meredusoleil · 31/12/2021 21:37

Anywhere on he south coast if Dorset?

DonGray · 31/12/2021 21:57

2 hours seems too far but I guess if only 1 hour then it's a holiday in Croydon

Surely geography dictates that you'd be hard pushed to find anywhere coastal less than 1.5 hrs from London?

friendlycat · 01/01/2022 10:52

Exactly the geography means nearly 2 hours from SW London anyway.

The Witterings are ideal. Or somewhere like Rye or Whitstable.

Otherwise an hour say directly south of SW London is just outside Guildford! Personally I don't call that holiday home hotspot. (Nothing wrong with Guildford at all.)

gogohm · 01/01/2022 10:58

Why would anyone buy a second home so close to their main home??? Just commute many do from the coast. There's not enough houses as it is without greedy people having 2.

Malteser71 · 01/01/2022 11:05

This is going to turn into Holiday Home Bingo.

‘Greedy and selfish’ have already been called

Glad you're only 'daydreaming'.

User2638483 · 01/01/2022 11:07

If you think the areas you’ve mentioned are ‘too far’ I think you’re going to struggle and are a bit weird

Surely it’s got to feel a little bit different to home and many people might like something near the coast.

DonGray · 01/01/2022 12:24

It doesn't have to be coastal but definitely looking for rural or is that just not possible?

OP posts:
Newnamefor2022 · 02/01/2022 21:03

Of course it's possible but you do have to be prepared to allow the journey enough time to get further than the M25!

StrifeOfBath · 02/01/2022 23:36

Do you have access to a map, in your dreamlike state?

BigotSpigot · 02/01/2022 23:38

Or course rural is possible! Loads of rural places nearish London. It just depends how much you want to spend....

OnGoldenPond · 03/01/2022 00:06

I regularly go to stay with a friend in Weymouth for weekends, easily doable in 2 hours from SW London on a Friday evening.

mjf981 · 03/01/2022 06:46

Meon Valley.

MintJulia · 03/01/2022 06:51

Somewhere on a fast train line.

These are both perfectly normal day trips from SW London, and easily do-able for a weekend. Prices however may not be achievable, both £££
