A house that would tempt you back home

I have never considered returning to the area where I grew up. But if I could afford this house I would definitely consider it. Any properties that would tempt you back to your home area

That is gorgeous. A rare 'I would leave London for that' house, in my case.

Though the current owners' striped sofas are vile, which is weird when the rest of the house is so tasteful.

In my dreams though, as I'll never have a budget of ¾ of a million. Unfortunately we rented so were priced out of the area when I was 16.

That is gorgeous

My current home was the one! Used to walk past it when I was little and think it and the next door house would be amazing houses to live in.

One of the houses came on the market. Had everything done, was stunning, hut just out of budget but really got the seed planted about moving back to my home town. We were about a year off applying for school places for oldest DC-schools were better than where we were living and closer to my parents and other family to help with pick ups and drop offs. Still commutable for our jobs as town was similar distance away but other side of our work sites iyswim. Bit quieter town, parks and beach, decent transport connections to bigger towns and got more for your money than where we were living.

Long story short just as we were seriously looking into it and had viewing lined up for other homes the next door house came on the market. Needed a lot of renovations and modernisation, but I arranged a viewing and we fell in love. It's been a lot of hard work iver the past 5 years, but its nearly finished and we haven't regretted it once.

That is a very beautiful house
Larchneedles · 15/12/2021 10:16

Lovely area too.

That would probably do it for me.

Twizbe · 15/12/2021 11:22

It's not my home town nor is the house for sale currently.

My Grandpa was an architect and built their house. It was a gorgeous mid century home that is filled with some many memories. If that ever came on the market it would be a serious conversation with my DH about it.

ToughTittyWhompus · 15/12/2021 11:38

This isn’t the most expensive, but it’s the nicest and right on the edge of the shit hole I’m from.

The exterior is terrible but inside it’s decent.

Have you letter dropped the current owners saying that if they ever consider selling to get in touch? That'd be a lovely story if you managed to buy the place.
LadyDanburysHat · 15/12/2021 11:52

I live very close to that house OP. Pretty sure it's up for sale again as there are going to be other houses built around it. It is nice, but there is something about it that I can't put my finger on, maybe not cosy enough.

Salxxxxxxxx · 15/12/2021 11:55

Nothing would tempt me back to where I lived. I'd prefer to live in a tiny flat here than return to my roots.

A house like that would be about £140K around here.
Twizbe · 15/12/2021 12:45

@Rollercoaster1920 I haven't, we live in London and this house is in a village outside Derby. It would be a big conversation if it came up though

Fuck London is mad. It's a lovely house but for that price you could buy a beautiful detached 4/5 bedroom house with a large garden. And I live in a really nice area with great schools. Sorry - don't mean to sound like a smug dickhead. I just find it crazy how expensive London is.
TheCanyon · 15/12/2021 13:44

It is a lovely house but would you really wanna live there? With all the accidents on dirtpot corner it would be a complete pain in the arse imo.

You couldn't pay me enough to move home but if I had to pick what's on rightmove right now, then I'd pick this one I guess. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/116512439#/?channel=RES_BUY

Then I could be dps neighbour and send the dc to annoy them instead. Though I'd rather love on the other side of the road though.

LadyDanburysHat · 15/12/2021 13:57

@TheCanyon there are less accidents on dirtpot corner now, since the made it wider. Although still plenty elsewhere, including one right by the turn off to that house just last week.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/12/2021 14:20

Oh I know there are far cheaper places. I have a similar house in Zone 6 that cost £350k - but the one I linked is in the area I considered "home".

Isseywith3witchycats · 15/12/2021 14:23

i had a friend when i was at school whos parents had serious money (betty fox of school of dance )and i used to go to his house it was one of those big manor type houses with a long curving driveway up to it with an immaculate green lawn at the front and woodland behind it ,georgous and i would have gone back to the midlands for that house sadly it is now a block of flats and the original house has gone

RunnerDown · 15/12/2021 17:06

@TheCanyon
I wouldn’t want to live there. But I’d love to live in that house - if I could afford it and could move it somewhere else.

Fuck! It's actually happened www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/117955136

The current owners have ruined some of the original features.

This is a few doors down from my childhood home. Not sure about the decor, but nice spot
