Anyone have IKEA Daybed?

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 18:57

I've seen a good as new one on FB market place. But it doesn't come with the mattress so I'll need to purchase it separately.

Except you can't seem to do that on their website?! The mattress for it can't be bought separately?

Has anyone got any ideas? Thank you

Which daybed is it?

HogglePoggle · 22/08/2021 19:02

I can see the mattress to purchase on my app? Malfors 80x200

HogglePoggle · 22/08/2021 19:02

Sorry, this is for the Hemnes daybed

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 19:03

Thank you!

It is the Hemnes day bed

I don't understand though - that's a single mattress. The IKEA hemnes daybed is suppose to go into a double when pulled out but that's just a single mattress?

I think it’s two single mattresses side by side to make a double. The other single mattress is stored under the bed when not in use.

CorrBlimeyGG · 22/08/2021 19:06

You buy two mattresses. You can get mattresses of varying depths.

SavoyCabbage · 22/08/2021 19:06

I have a different IKEA daybed and it has two single mattresses on top of each other when it’s in sofa mode and then you put them side by side when it’s a double bed.

CorrBlimeyGG · 22/08/2021 19:06

The other single mattress is stored under the bed when not in use.

Both are on the top. There are three very handy drawers underneath.

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 19:07

Oh I see! So just two mattresses.

Are they definitely stored underneath or do they go on top of each other when being used as a single?

We have 2 mattresses on the hemnes daybed. They pile on top of each other when it is the daybed rather than the double bed

milkjetmum · 22/08/2021 19:08

Yes you need to get two of the thin ish foamy mattresses, not a fully springed one. We had a futon matress to put over the top in addition when out as a double, which we could fold away and store when not using.

Thank you - So when used as a single what sheet size do you use? Would a standard single sheet be large enough?

There are 3 drawers so you couldn't store the other underneath. The 2 singles sit on top of each other

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 19:09

I ask because DS will be using it as a single bed and then as a double occasionally when someone close to us sleeps over (he is still a small child and likes these set ups for now)

We use the hemnes day bed as a sofa in the family room. We just have both mattresses piled on top of each other. I use a single fitted sheet to keep them together and then a fitted throw on top of it

dementedpixie · 22/08/2021 19:10

We just use a single sheet I think. It has a mattress protector on too as ds uses it in the converted garage when he is playing his playstation

dementedpixie · 22/08/2021 19:11

And yes we also have throws over the top when it's not a bed

dementedpixie · 22/08/2021 19:11

And cushions

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 19:11

Thank you!

Do you think a different mattress would fit the bed or will it have to be the IKEA ones?

I don't think a standard single mattress would fit?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 22/08/2021 19:13

Says it takes an 80x200 mattress

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 22/08/2021 19:13

You need two of the IKEA mattress needs to be the European single and you’ll need two of the sheets that fit that mattress size. It’s narrower and longer than a standard British single.

CorrBlimeyGG · 22/08/2021 19:13

The sheet size will depend on the mattresses you get. I use a normal single, but if you have the deeper mattresses you'll need a deep sided single.

CallMeRisley · 22/08/2021 19:14

My 7 year old DD has the Hemnes day bed. As others have said, buy two IKEA sized single mattresses and put them on top of each other on the bed. When pulled out to a double they go next to each other. The IKEA single mattresses are slightly smaller than the standard size so standard size sheets for fine and just need a slight tuck in at the end.

milkjetmum · 22/08/2021 19:14

I think it has to be the ikea ones to fit well as they are not standard single size

pegasussy · 22/08/2021 19:14

IKEA sizes are European, not UK, so mattresses are 200cm rather than 190cm long. You just need to double check the dimensions and ensure whatever mattress you pick fits that.

I'd suggest getting 'real' mattresses rather than the IKEA foamy ones if the bed is to be for daily use. The foamy mattress is not supportive, and is really only suitable occasional guest use.
