Huge house, lovely grounds, red squirrels! But the extension glass bit... you'd have to rip it down and start again, wouldn't you?

I love the extension! I'd rip out the tennis court though, maybe replace with a really big pond.

sandgrown · 17/08/2021 08:28

Yes it’s the extension that is weird but I would give it a shot if I could afford it!

Camandmitch · 17/08/2021 08:29

The glass extension and bar is amazing. Why would you rip it out?

Hungry675tf · 17/08/2021 08:32

That extension/house is stunning! What a fabulous place to live!

SunShinesBrightly · 17/08/2021 08:34

The extension roof sloping down towards the main house is a bit odd!

It’s a very ugly house. A mixture of decades ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s.
It’s also expensive. Maybe the large plot and location are its selling point?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 17/08/2021 08:35

I love it. I would do a grand Alexis Colby entrance down those steps every time I went into the room.

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2021 08:38

It's great ! Loads of money so not for me!!

Lunaballoon · 17/08/2021 08:38

The glass extension is the best bit, IMO! I wouldn’t say the rest of it classic 1970s though.

aftonwater · 17/08/2021 08:39

I really like it! I'm not sure about all the stone cladding inside but I really like the rest.

Woolver23 · 17/08/2021 08:42

Great house! I think the extension is the icing on the cake, so no, would absolutely not be pulling it down!
I was never a fan of 70s houses until a friend bought one and has done it up with such vintage flair that I can now see another side to them. The one you have posted could be amazing.

GreenMeeple · 17/08/2021 08:46

I like it, very interesting way of extending over a steep slope. And I love big windows like that. A lot better than a lot of modern extension I have seen anyway.

I think it just needs a little redecorating, especially the bar with its exposed stone and wood paneling. It would make a good play room, cinema room or library.

chukwe · 17/08/2021 08:53

No toilet nor bathroom for bedroom 4

TheGenealogist · 17/08/2021 08:57

The stairs coming down into the extension with the table and the high ceilings reminds me very much of my old secondary school with the doors and the pendant lights from the ceiling and the handrails. All the stone gives me the shivers though, it's so dated and I'm not sure how you'd change that, the whole design of the "bar room" with the wee high up windows... would cost a fortune to change.

As for the area - Auchterarder is very desirable. Gleneagles is just a mile down the road, half way between Perth and Stirling. An hour into Glasgow, just a bit further into Edinburgh. Good schools, lovely countryside.

Oh and the kitchen is quite small for a larger house.

OP posts:
ohfook · 17/08/2021 08:59

Oh my god I bloody love it. I'd keep everything except the kitchen units.

senua · 17/08/2021 09:00

The extension is hideous. It looks like something someone bodged together with random bits of wood that they found lurking in the back of the garage. And why would you design it to drain towards the rest of the house - that's asking for problems.
There are loads of better houses for £1.6m.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/08/2021 09:03

Its great and I'd def keep the extension.
Bar room would either become like a cinema room or a study / library. The only bit requiring work is the kitchen, it's a very inspiring kitchen

SleepingStandingUp · 17/08/2021 09:03

*Uninspiring

SoupDragon · 17/08/2021 09:04

I wouldn't rip it down. Plastering/rendering over all the stone cladding and changing the windows would make the world of difference. I like the space.

SoupDragon · 17/08/2021 09:06

I'd probably lose the boxy "Sun room" that seems to have been stuck on the side though.

SunShinesBrightly · 17/08/2021 09:08

@SoupDragon

I'd probably lose the boxy "Sun room" that seems to have been stuck on the side though.
It’s a bit ‘retirement home lounge’ isn’t it?!
TheWashingMachine · 17/08/2021 09:12

It's lovely so much nicer than loads of stuff posted on here.

TheGenealogist · 17/08/2021 09:13

I didn't post it as a "look how awful this house is". It's a perfectly decent house in a lovely area, with a massive garden. It's just very of its time, taken to extremes. It's clearly not been touched since it was built.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/08/2021 09:15

It’s a bit ‘retirement home lounge’ isn’t it?! Rip out the carpet abd furniture though abd you'd totally change the vibe. I'm thinking play room or dining room

BalloonSlayer · 17/08/2021 09:16

It's like Tracy Island! Love it!
