Shoe storage in hallway

At the moment we have a smallish table with 2 wicker baskets in our hallway that we use for storing lightweight shoes, hats, scarves etc and have lamp, flowers on top. Next to that we have a hideously ugly 2 layer metal shoe storage rack. Most of the time my 2 teenage boys and husband simply leave their size 11 shoes on the floor and the shoe rack empty, meaning the entrance to the hall is carnage!!! I may as well get rid of the ugly shoe rack but what do you all have for hallway shoe storage for about 12 pairs of enormous shoes. Inspiration please. I've Googled for hours but would like real life inspiration Smile

I had cupboards built for coats and shoes and also a bench with drawers for scarves, gloves etc. Still have shoes and coats littered in the vestibule and everywhere else throughout the house too 🙄
Bloody nightmare and no help to you: apologies.

I just have a really simply wooden shoe rack with 3 rows and fits 12 pairs of shoes. Very similar to this in fact it might be the same one it's a while since I bought it:

Mind you I'm just as bad at leaving shoes on the floor then moaning at myself for nearly tripping over them Grin

Sideboard with plastic storage boxes inside.

I have this because it's slim and fits in the small gap by my front door!

I have a large wooden box with a lid - it’s painted black and looks like a pirates chest only more grown up!

Sounds great in theory - shoes still all over the floor!

I bought a dog and for the first time ever my husband and older children started to put their shoes away. We have a very simikar stacking rack to the argos one.
I like the look of some I saw in etsy which were mounted on the wall

TeanupFlutter · 19/06/2021 16:39

IKEA Kallax the 4 box one. Each person has a box for their shoes and they're easy enough to fling in if any are left out. Useful surface too for tissue box, facemask basket and anything else that's handy to have on the way out of the house. High floating shelf with baskets for hats/gloves/scarves etc.

Ooh now then, I'm liking the idea of this. I had thought about a sideboard kind of unit but had visions of them just chucking everything in and just having internal shoe carnage instead of external shoe carnage!!! But those divider things are genius. Please could you let me know where you got those from. This could be the way forward. It means that once they've left home, the unit could be used in another way rather than being stuck with something that is just shoe specific. Thank you!!

If you have time please could you let me know the width and depth of your unit. That's about the amount of shoes that I need out of sight!! Thank you

We've got an 'old skool' PE changing room bench. It's really cute and fits the vibe of our house

Bluntness100 · 19/06/2021 16:49

Honestly I’d not be allowing them to leave four pairs of show each at the door, I’d be telling them to put them away. Max one pair at the door each,

Mindymomo · 19/06/2021 16:49

This is what we have in our hallway, it’s ideal for our space and with 4 adults, which with 4 pairs of shoes.

We used to have the IKEA slim style cupboard but the slots were to shallow and couldn't fit the bugger size shoes in. not a great idea if you have 3 lads in the house
We have a IKEA storage bench that is good. Perfect to dump the shoes inside and then sit in too

Tangledtresses · 19/06/2021 17:08

With 2 kids there are shoes all over the place! It's a mare... tbf I've given up!

burritofan · 19/06/2021 17:24

We rejigged under the stairs so storage cupboards are right at the bottom of stairs and then the highest end is open with an ancient Kallax for shoes, coat books, space for pram/bikes/crap. There’s a curtain I pull across when I can’t bear it all; it’s invisible from the front door and kitchen so you walk into a clear hallway (well, you will once I paint it Grin) then round the dog-leg bend and TA-DA! all the junk.

We have this one. Bit pricey but I wanted something that looked nice and had doors. Very happy with it www.cotswoldco.com/hallway-furniture/shoe-storage-bench/chester-charcoal-large-shoe-cupboard/

The table we already have is from The Cotswolds Company and I love it. It's just not big enough these days. Their website was the first place I looked and so many things I like but I'm being a bit impatient as so much of their stock is on a 16 week wait time. How many pairs of adult shoes would you say can realistically fit in here, as a matter of interest? Thanks

We get three pairs of adult shoes on each shelf and have five shelves (counting the bottom of cupboard as one) so 15. You can get 4 pairs of kids shoes in one shelf. DP is a size 10 and they fit ok, probably couldn’t fit much bigger though.

I know - I saw 15-16 weeks on the link! Think it was in stock when we bought it so it came within a week.

purplemunkey · 19/06/2021 18:12

We have a few things from Cotswold, worth the extra I think. Very solid and looks nice. We bought a landing cupboard for towels/bed linen not long ago and went for a cheaper IKEA job. It annoys me every time I look at it! Doors don’t close very well and it looks so flimsy by comparison. Wish we’d gone for something better quality now.

jellybellydancer · 19/06/2021 18:52

We’ve got this one which you can customise with different sizes and colours
