Hi all

My fridge freezer is probably kaput. I normally buy white good from John Lewis, but their selction is dire at the moment. I have found what I need on AO, but I don't know what their service is like. Anyone able to share experience?

Also, any recommendations on make? I would love a Miele but can't find one to fit the space at a price I can manage. I have found a Samsung that will fit.

Ta!

We have bought a washing machine, dishwasher and integrated fridge freezer all within the last 2 years, all from AO. They were brilliant particularly with our integrated appliances. Couldn't fault them.

@SuperbOwls

Buy through boots appliances instead! It's all supplied, delivered and installed by AO, but with the added bonus of advantage card points.
Yep, that's what I do!
OhRene · 05/05/2021 14:22

@InpatientGardener

Personally wouldn't use AO again , we bought a hoover washer drier that had 5 faults in the first year, then a further 2 six months later. When I complained, customer service were really rude and told me that at 18 months it was usual for white goods to need repairs/start breaking down. They offered us £100 towards a replacement when the original cost us £500. Could be a one off though as lots of people seem to have had positive experiences.
I bought a Hoover washing machine (though not through AO) and by the Gods it's a temperamental, flaky thing that loves to break down! Before it was even a year old it was randomly beeping for attention even if it was turned off. It only says okay to starting if you're really nice to it or you take the lid off and push at all the connections and wires inside.

Never again will I buy Hoover brand!

InpatientGardener · 05/05/2021 14:25

@OhRene yes ours does that! The thing is bizarre. Also the other day it randomly tumble dried my washing straight after a normal wash cycle. I don't put it on if I'm out of the house, I don't trust it at all Confused

@Tisforptarmigan

We bought a chest freezer for the garage from them just before Christmas.

They were very good, took away rubbish and installed it etc. We were told not to switch it on for a few hours so the delivery people had left when we actually did this. The freezer tripped our electric repeatedly and was obviously broken. We called customer services and they were very good. Got a replacement to us really quickly and offered a better and bigger model for the same price to replace quicker than original item. We had to decline this because of tight space. I would definitely use them again. Customer services was in UK too if you were wondering.

This is very similar to my experience except it was a Beko fridge/freezer. Customer service were very helpful (unlike Beko who were crap) and quickly replaced it with a slightly more expensive and better model for no extra cost.

They're great as long as they can park near your house. We only have on-street parking and it's always busy. First time they refused to deliver as they could only park down the road. Had to re-arrange and make sure I could reserve a spot outside the house for them.

I had 3 faulty fridge freezers (don't buy Fridgemaster!) and they were great at replacing - after 3 I changed brand and they didn't charge me the extra cost.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/05/2021 14:37

Have used them lots of times and have never had any complaints about their service. They are quite often the cheapest as well.

Devlesko · 05/05/2021 14:39

My dsis works at the warehouse, she's the only female and one of the only British workers Grin
Their deliveries are the same as any other, much better than John Lewis, that's abysmal.

OhRene · 05/05/2021 14:52

@InpatientGardener we've simply decided that ours is, in fact, haunted. Or possessed. We're not sure which.
It chirps away at us randomly when we're in the kitchen. Sometimes it will turn on if we ask it to. Admittedly it started out with a muttered plea under our breath but now we say, fuck it, and hold conversations with the bastarding thing.
And if we unplug it completely it STILL beeps. With no electrical supply!
It's about 4 years old now and for over three years it's been acting up so we're just squeezing our money's worth out of it for as long as possible until it just dies one day.

Bloody Hoover! Gimme an old school brown Hotpoint washer from the 80's any day.

Fifthtimelucky · 05/05/2021 14:56

I'd go for a local company. Service is usually much better in my experience.

I bought a new hob recently. I've just checked the price on ao and it is exactly the same as what I paid. However I paid £20 for mine to be installed and for the old one to be disconnected and removed. The ao price is £90 for installation and £20 for removing the old one.

LovingBob · 05/05/2021 15:03

Have just ordered a dishwasher from them, it was cheaper than on JL website, there was also a £25 discount code on AO's site for appliances over £299, I didn't get removal or fitting as DH will do that. I purchased my dishwasher and it is being delivered Tuesday, the first available date for free delivery, our old one just leaks a tiny bit so will limp on for another week. AO just rang me about delivery and asked if we had bought from them before , I said yes as I had and they then gave me free removal of my old appliance which would normally cost £20

I bought an electric cooker from them a couple of years ago and they capped off the gas, removed the old gas cooker and wired in the new electric one for a very reasonable price, AO is one of the few places that will remove a gas cooker and put in a electric one, many places only do like for like.

TheresNothingIWantMore · 05/05/2021 15:15

Another one saying AO are brilliant! But also check boots appliances
www.bootskitchenappliances.com

It's still AO, and will be delivered in an AO truck and if you need to call them its the AO helpline - but for some reason is sometimes cheaper, and has a small selection of products.

You'll get boots points so even if the same price it's worth getting through boots if you have a boots card

I feel like I said "boots" far to much in this post! Grin

tanstaafl · 05/05/2021 15:39

We bought washing machine from AO, with £20 next day delivery.
It was delivered next day... to a different house!
AO had it collected and delivered correctly the day after and refunded the £20!

Unless they’ve gone downhill, I’d definitely use them again.

OMGisthisforreal · 05/05/2021 17:08

I would recommend AO too. Ordered an integrated microwave for my DM and paid an additional but reasonable fee to have the broken one disconnected and removed from its housing, the new one installed and tested, plus they took away the broken microwave for disposal. The two guys were very friendly and acted within COVID safe guidelines.
I’d never heard of them before as have always used John Lewis but AO had more choice of products to fit the specific dimensions reqy
Unreel. Would definitely use AO again.

FelicityElectricity · 05/05/2021 17:26

We used them once. The delivery was fine but they could not fit a replacement integrated fridge. We had paid extra for them to do this. It ended up with the fridge door being put back at an awkward angle and the guy from AO was in our house for an hour trying to do it and has to give up. We had to get a local joiner in to sort it in the end. From what I can remember we didn't have problems getting the installation charge refunded.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 05/05/2021 17:30

I have bought a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and fridge freezer from AO in the last four years on the recommendation of a friend. Service was very good.

OldSpeclkledHen · 05/05/2021 18:32

@Chunkymenrock Thank You for the cash back site tip!
I'm (hopefully 😬😬) moving soon, so that's a brilliant idea! 😁😁

sunshine7981 · 05/05/2021 19:10

Love AO - good range, prices and service- and they deliver on time and with cheerful efficient staff

InpatientGardener · 05/05/2021 19:21

@OhRene that's the same age as ours and same tactic, just squeeze every last use out of it before it's probable premature death! One of the many technicians that came out said you can't get the top of the machine wet at all because the control panel sits right underneath and then it takes on a life of its own stops working.

cheeseychovolate · 05/05/2021 19:25

I looked and purchased a TV, Hoover and mini oven from AO, like you would normally get those items from JL but selection was poor. Had no problems with AO, delivery was good.

LongIslandIcedT · 05/05/2021 19:29

I like AO, they are my go to for electronics.
Beware of the upsell phone calls for warranties though.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 05/05/2021 19:37

Excellent customer service from AO. Had a couple of small issues with previous purchases and they bend over backwards to resolve them, call when they say they will, always friendly and polite.

Bought a Beko cooker recently, it wasn't very good - uneven bake and temp controls not accurate. They sent an engineer out and when that didn't help they did a group call with myself, them and the manufacturer, then said that they saw my side of it and were happy to offer a full refund or exchange.

Replacement Belling arrived today, there was a scratch on it. Soonest I could arrange another delivery was Monday, so instead they knocked off £200! This one seems to work brilliantly and is much sturdier. And with the discount not much more than the Beko one. Result.

DP has had great service from them too with a TV he bought recently. Would definitely recommend AO.

RaspberryCoulis · 05/05/2021 19:55

I have used AO several times - I have a friend who is currently living overseas and renting out her house near me, a few times things have gone wrong in the house and I've ordered her a new washing machine, dishwasher and microwave through AO to be delivered to the tenant. All very straightforward, competitive pricing, delivery on a day of your choice, they ring/text beforehand to let you know they're on the way.

Would definitely recommend.

This. It's how I bought my new dishwasher.
Stopstaringatmehenry · 05/05/2021 21:44

I’ve had a cheap AO fridge freezer for 6 years. It needs replacing now as it fills with water and the freezer seal is going but it’s taken a lot of wear and tear. Delivered exactly when needed and a great price.
