Hi all

My fridge freezer is probably kaput. I normally buy white good from John Lewis, but their selction is dire at the moment. I have found what I need on AO, but I don't know what their service is like. Anyone able to share experience?

Also, any recommendations on make? I would love a Miele but can't find one to fit the space at a price I can manage. I have found a Samsung that will fit.

Ta!

Agree the AO service was great when we used them 6 years ago for new washer, dryer and ice-dispensing fridge freezer in our new house. All delivered and installed on the same day with no problems whatsoever. I would definitely use them again (unlike John Lewis, who used to be my white goods supplier of choice but seem to have gone downhill...)

AO is excellent. I used to purchase all my appliances from John Lewis but have had a much better customer service experience with AO. They’ve replaced my iron twice without fuss as twice it’s stopped working after a year or so!

My favourite go to for everything including fridge freezer during first lockdown, my kettle and emergency coffee machine (mine broke and they delivered next day). Always been good for us.

When we were having our kitchen done I wanted 2 things that weren't in their usual range. The kitchen man was happy we'd picked AO. He said a lot of customers had used JL and despite it saying 'Available' it wasn't and it had only become apparent after you had paid. AO delivered to time and all was well.

We bought a fridge/freezer,washer and dishwasher from them-ordered online and we waited no longer than 3 days for it to arrive
We where very impressed-all arrived on time-had a text to let us know they where coming and they fitted it for us
The washer broke down (random sock in the filter)
They where out within two days, text to let me know they where on way/name of the bloke coming and fixed it with no issues
Only snag is the after call to flog us a warranty which my partner said no to and they where great about it

AO are bloody brilliant! In fact, I get a bit of a thrill when something konks out just so I can use them again!

To be fair, a lot of other services have caught up now, but in my experience they were the first to nail filters when shopping online to account for budget, spec etc., good choice of delivery days, free eco delivery days, removal of old appliances, good communication on the day, after sales curtesy call etc.

Just a tip for the after sales call to flog warranties, it's not AO but Domestic and General who have an information contract with AO.They're also affiliated with Sky TV and other big white goods retailers.
They call and sort of make out that they're phoning from AO/Sky/Curry's etc but don't directly say it. It's also not an extended warranty but an individual insurance policy.

Now, I never accept their offers because I always think, why would I pay when I have an automatic 1 year warranty? Other than accidental damage, the "extended warranty" insurance would mean I'm paying for something I already have. However, I do say, call me back in 12 months, mate. They always do and sometimes I do take their insurance cause it's actually really bloody good.

I've had my 8 year old cooker repaired three times saving me £400+ in repairs (which included a whole new door when a workman put a small scratch in it) and my policy was about £30 (now £70) a year.

And when it finally dies for good I'll get a new one too. I'm really hoping my husband drops something heavy on the ceramic hob. I couldn't purposely do it but I'll always hope for a happy accident. Grin

The insurances are all well and good if they come round in good time to fix the item, I have seen many reports that they sometimes take weeks to come round and fix the problem.

OhRene · 06/05/2021 09:03

@User6587324 it's never been more than a two day wait for me. And that includes call outs for the old washer too when I had it insured with them. The insurers just employ a local company, they don't have their own so wait times are what they would normally be for that company.

User6587324 · 06/05/2021 09:34

Thanks OhRene, that sounds good, maybe I was getting mixed up with repairs that are done under guarantee by the manufacturer. It is probably sensible for some things like cookers that are expensive and not easily repaired at home or if you can't repair things yourself, we rarely bother as DH can do most repairs himself, he recently repaired our tumble dryer with a £10 switch off eBay but if it was just me I wouldn't have a clue.

Mumblechum0 · 06/05/2021 09:35

I always go to AO, their service is exceptional.

mynameiscalypso · 06/05/2021 09:39

Agree with a point that a PP made about parking although I think some of their delivery drivers are running a scam - they delivered us a dishwasher, were supposed to install it and take the old one away but claimed that their van was too big to park anywhere so they couldn't stay and install it. But, what a surprise, one of the delivery drivers said we could get the installation fee refunded from AO and he could come back the next day in his own time and do it for cash in hand.

KitchenWarrior · 06/05/2021 10:15

Our freezer was delivered in super quick time in the throes of the first lockdown by two friendly blokes who were possibly still wearing their pyjamas.

They took all the packaging and moved the freezer indoors for us. Can't fault that side of it.

They did also offer to take the old one away for £20 cash, I suspected it would go in the nearest hedge so we said no to that one.

BlackAlys · 06/05/2021 11:59

@SuperbOwls

Buy through boots appliances instead! It's all supplied, delivered and installed by AO, but with the added bonus of advantage card points.
What?! That's good to know!
Shorthairlady · 06/05/2021 12:07

It would never occur to me to look anywhere else tbh. AO are always my first port of call.

user1471542288 · 06/05/2021 13:26

I’ve had a new Bosch washing machine delivered by them today. Very simple to install and not that much packaging so we did not pay extra for that. Very happy with the service as I have been when using them several times in the past. I like the fact that they can usually deliver very quickly. I was phoned a couple of days before delivery and had a hard sell job of their own insurance.

Chunkymenrock · 08/05/2021 15:03

Boots Appliances are also on Top Cashback too, so always go through there for any purchases!
