Would you be happy with this tiling?

We’ve been having a wet room fitted at our house and I’ve just been to see it for the first time today. The tiles have been cut in random directions and most cuts are not straight and look like they are smashed!

I know there needs to be a slope for the water to drain, but this seems an absolute bodged mess? I have grounds to complain here surely?

Yes, i wouldn't be at all happy with that. Where did you source your tiler from?

Lynchpin2018 · 28/12/2020 16:14

I would NOT be happy with that tiling and I wouldn’t be sure of it being watertight. I would definitely complain...is it a company or I dependant tiler?

Els1e · 28/12/2020 16:15

I wouldn’t be happy. I think you should speak to the tiler.

laudemio · 28/12/2020 16:15

That is awful. Get them to redo it and if they won't get trading standards involved.

HotSince63 · 28/12/2020 16:15

There's not a single tile in that picture that I wouldn't want ripped off and fitted again properly.

I hope you haven't paid upfront. Whoever made this mess wouldn't get a penny from me.

That’s bad tiling, make him redo it or get rid of him.

kayakingmum · 28/12/2020 16:18

Not acceptable at all. I think you are best to try to get your money back. There is no point in getting them to redo it. If they are not capable of doing a decent job the first time around they will not be capable the second time around.

MrsFluffyMuff · 28/12/2020 16:18

What the hell? You could have probably done a better job of it yourself. Was the person who did that on drugs?

throughmylens · 28/12/2020 16:19

That's pretty bad

PragmaticWench · 28/12/2020 16:19

The areas in red are not level, the blue areas have uneaven grout widths. That is not good!

This is what I had in mind - symmetrical and neat.

We got a small-ish local bathroom company with excellent reviews, thinking that we wouldn’t have to project manage as the owner (plumber) seemed to run all the jobs with a few labourers. But instead, they seem to have outsourced the work to loads of random people and nothing has gone right and costs have tripled from the quote. It was supposed to be finished before Christmas!

I stupidly paid for the work they’ve completed (so far) when I received a sob story on Christmas Eve about wages. Can’t believe I’ve been such an idiot.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/12/2020 16:27

That is an appalling job, op.

LegoAndLolDolls · 28/12/2020 16:28

I would not be happy with that. We had similar with a plumber from check arcade with great reviews that cocked up everything they touched.

In the end I just someone else in to refit the bathroom and it cost me a good few grand. I was so fed up with talking to them in the end. We didnt pay them, but they wrecked 2k worth of tiles as it had to come off. It was part of a massive extension and I just got fed up in the end

PawPawNoodle · 28/12/2020 16:31

Is that the floor or the wall OP? If it's the floor it's a bit of a different story depending on how much room they had for run-off etc. It's still not the best job.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/12/2020 16:32

I would be incandescent. Is there a contract and indemnity involved. How much was the initial quote, how much is the final bill, what are the explanations? Were you able to visit any of the clients providing excellent reviews?

I suspect the tiles will have to be replaced for the job.to be redone satisfactorily. Is the chap reasonable? I suspect it will be a small claims court action and he may have no assets or be hard to find.

FAQs · 28/12/2020 16:34

That’s dreadful!

Oblomov20 · 28/12/2020 16:40

Christ almighty, that's terrible op. Sorry.

poppingpotatoes · 28/12/2020 16:43

It's a disgraceful mess.

GameSetMatch · 28/12/2020 16:47

As someone who’s had a con man builder con me out of £1000s my suggestion is get a surveyor to do you a report and go to the small claims court ASAP. Don’t wait around or be fobbed off.

2bazookas · 28/12/2020 16:52

Awful. Do not pay the bill. Not a penny. Take lots of pictures and contact trading standards.

I would not make the same company re-do the work because its very obvious they don't have the skills or experience. Take your money and find a new tiler

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/12/2020 16:56

If my cat had done it I'd be quite impressed knowing that tiling isn't really his forte. His two major skills are catching mice and sleeping.
If a tiler had done it I'd expect it to all be removed and the whole lot done again by another, proper tiler.

fairydustandpixies · 28/12/2020 16:56

That's terrible!

Burnthurst187 · 28/12/2020 17:00

That looks like I did it lol
