Beautiful house with a quirk...

Mostly estate-agent-speak drives me nuts. Sometimes, though, you have to respect their audacity and stand in awe. Take a look - the 'quirk' is in the description Shock Hmm www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-95467919.html

They should use this photo in the ad!

Someone will buy it.
My dad sold a similar property on a river bank that had flooded a few times. It was all over the news when it did so no secret. He sold it as he was too old to cope with another flood and made this clear to the buyers who were over the moon as "they have always wanted the house and have lived in the area all their lives and always dreamed of living there" 🤷‍♀️.

Kenworthington · 06/10/2020 16:07

It’s gorgeous but yeah it floods all the time

RainbowRaine · 06/10/2020 16:09

22.4 Salmon a year, so less than two salmon a month or am I reading that wrong

Shalliornot · 06/10/2020 16:09

My grandparents used to live in a house that was prone to flooding - it had a gully along the kitchen floor to drain the water. They bought it knowing all about the issue

I too wondered if this was worth bragging about Grin

Yeah but they swim into your kitchen. No need to go fishing.
NancyBotwinBloom · 06/10/2020 16:27

The salmon can swim right up into the oven Shock

daisychain1620 · 06/10/2020 16:31

Yeah but don't worry you get told in plenty of time that your home will flood. Not a quirk I'd put up with but each to their own

AgentProvocateur · 06/10/2020 16:31

There’s a salmon ‘season’ I think so you probably can’t fish all year round.

Beautiful house, but uninsurable. And what would you do with your furniture when if flooded - move it all upstairs?

ConcreteUnderpants · 06/10/2020 17:44

Lol! Not sure I’d call it a quirk!!
Gorgeous looking setting though.

ConcreteUnderpants · 06/10/2020 17:45

FaceTheRaven80 omg!! That pesky quirk!

Salmon season is only Feb-Oct.

But that figure isn't terrible for such a short stretch of single bank fishing.

I've known double bankers in Scotland do less some year.

KoalaRabbit · 06/10/2020 18:14

It's beautiful and our cat would be in heaven - she loves thatched cottages and one with fish and a giant dirty water bowl would be perfect. Grin

I'ld love a thatched cottage by a river / lake but not one that floods and certainly not for that price though its huge.

Dread to think what the insurance is on that if you can even get insurance. Its high for thatch anyway but thatch plus regular flooding good luck. Can see why there's no kitchen units.

IheartNiles · 06/10/2020 20:47

Normal for Venice

GoneAndDoneItAgainAgain · 06/10/2020 20:49

I got married about 100m from there

Pineapplemonkey · 06/10/2020 21:11

And you wouldn’t even get to keep the 22.8 salmon, apparently you have to throw them back!

Standrewsschool · 06/10/2020 21:31

So the house floods, plus lacks privacy as it’s being photographed all the time!

Selling it without furniture doesn’t help, because you wonder if it’s empty because it’s just been flooded....

Pretty to look at though.

KoalaRabbit · 06/10/2020 21:33

Yes the lack of kitchen units made me think downstairs gets flooded a lot.

Bouledeneige · 06/10/2020 21:36

You'd never get any insurance

dudsville · 06/10/2020 21:36

Can you imagine, you have to cancel plans, friends ask why, you say the river's gonna flood, gotta raise all your furniture. Of course.

samosamimosa · 06/10/2020 21:38

The only house to have salmon fishing from the comfort if your own lounge !

MrsEricBana · 06/10/2020 21:41

😂😂😂
Erm, thanks but...🌊🐟

bathorshower · 06/10/2020 21:57

I thought I recognised it from the photos. If you look at streetview, it is very close the the road - there's no pavement or any other separation, so you'll get vehicles within inches of your windows day and night. Lovely....

Bouledeneige · 06/10/2020 23:58

Yes it definitely has more than one downside - both quite major drawbacks.
