Turquoise Bathroom!

luvabellawilleatme · 25/07/2020 09:20

Hiya, we are (hopefully) moving in a few weeks to our first 'owned' house, we love the house and the decoration is very clean but rather dated to say the least! Once we have factored in new carpets (a real essential for me) and other moving in costs we are going to have to save for a little while before we can replace the bathroom. At the moment the toilet, wash basin and bath are all a horrible turquoise colour (Confused) is there anything I can do about them really cheaply for a year or so? I am doubting that they can be painted but happy to be told I am wrong! The rest of the bathroom is laminate flooring, white tiles with occasional turquoise flower tiles (I have found ways to cover them up!) and a dark blue flowery wallpapered wall (which I actually quite like). Any ideas for the bathroom suite or is the only option to live with it until we can fully replace?

I like the retro suite too. Trendy Wink

RandomMess · 25/07/2020 09:51

Noooooo

It's retro - it's very "in" to have a retro bathroom, go with it - look at pin interest and fully 60s it up.

There was a poster with a pink one and got some amazing ideas for it.

Honestly if you look at grand designs/some of the more future looking interiors forecasters you'll see that is literally just about to become v fashionable again. It's a really lovely colour too. I'd maybe make changes around the suit, possibly consider replacing or painting tiles but I'd keep the toilet and sanitary ware. It would be a crime to get rid of that.

RandomMess · 25/07/2020 09:53

Love the tiles!!!

Bright striped towels with the blues in them.

Just theme it accordingly.

I am so jealous we had to take out our pink loo and handbasin as the bath had already been removed Sad

Mummyshark2018 · 25/07/2020 20:31

I love it too. I would paint the pipes white, the walls a dusky pink, then match with tropical darker green themed accessories (plants/ hanging baskets etc).

yesterdaystotalsteps123 · 25/07/2020 22:16

I love the tiles. And the colour. You could get some gorgeous candles and beauty products with the money you'll save by just cleaning it, and add a modern ladder shelf for towels and plants. It will look gorgeous

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/07/2020 22:20

I think turquoise is a great colour for a bathroom. Embrace it, as everyone else has said!

Kilbranan · 25/07/2020 22:49

I’d love a suite that colour. I had planned a mix and match coloured suite but my dh vetoed it!

ElsieBeard · 25/07/2020 22:54

I would keep it.....don't paint it...it will look worse

longtompot · 25/07/2020 23:06

The bathroom we had in our previous home (a rental) was that colour and I loved it! Can you work with it? We did white walls, and wood cupboards. We put down a tile print Lino flooring.

StCharlotte · 25/07/2020 23:09

@Shannith

Oh my god. My autocorrect had an absolute field day with that!

A rival Bridget blue = a brighter tonal blue
Hot people pink = just pink though feel free to add some hot people.

Perhaps I've just invented some new F&B colours?

@ soundsystem sounds excellent.

Honestly, I think those suites are well made too. We moved into our house and a brand new (white) suite was in the bathroom. The loo seat is already taking a battering.

Karwomannghia · 26/07/2020 07:17

I’d keep it, I wanted a coloured suite but couldn’t find one for a reasonable price.

Buggedandconfused · 26/07/2020 07:21

I like it! Very retro in a cool way. I’d just clean it up and wait.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/07/2020 07:23

Keep it!

I love it. Bleach the pipes and tidy it up. It’s fabulous. (May be outing) but I have a turquoise loo and I love it.

We did once have a burgundy suite, but it was so gloomy we replaced it. Also it showed any toothpaste mark, water mark.

I think coloured suites will come back. But blue or yellow I love. Shame you can’t get coloured loo paper anymore.

I recently moved into a house with a green bathroom. I've actually got very fond of it, and have gone a bit retro with a macrame pot holder, plants and pale pink accents, I'm going to have fun with it until I get bored and put in a boring white suite, that looks just like everyone elses!

cptartapp · 26/07/2020 07:33

PIL have that exact colour.
They still have the same matching back-scrub and nail brush sitting on the side of the bath since I met DH, and we've been together 28 years!

NotMeNoNo · 26/07/2020 10:05

You could even with the help of a plumber, update taps to ceramic ones, improve shower and replace or move that scruffy pipe so it was 21st century ready.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/07/2020 10:10

Lovely!! I agree you need to make a feature of it. So many new bathroom suites are so cheap now. If it’s still in good condition then keep it!

yomellamoHelly · 26/07/2020 10:11

There was a flamingo themed bathroom on here with turquoise walls (chosen by dc if I remember correctly). Thought the end result was really nice. Would something along those lines work as a stop-gap?

Choux · 26/07/2020 10:23

Make it very clean, and freshen up the white paint, grout etc then add toning colour for towels and accessories.

I'm jealous of the higher cistern, far better flush, really wish I had my old one back.
Really lovely turquoise

Bowerbird5 · 26/07/2020 10:57

My plumber recently told us that he found a blue toilet and sold it for a very good price. Trade shops often have bargains he passed it on to us and we got a good quality loo for £60 for outside. He didn’t mention the seat and they threw it in for free because it was scratched.😁

I quite like the turquoise. I have just painted our alcove Dulux Tranquil Depths which is a deep turquoise to petrol blue which a small area painted would go well then I would paint the rest white. Like others said some plants. I did see a wallpaper recently white with a geometric shape in a fine line of turquoise which would go really well. You can buy a film tile which might cover up the flowers. Laura Ashley used to make a pale turquoise towels the bales are often in their sales.

Take ideas from Pinterest there are bound to be some. I remember my friend having a turquoise suite including a bidet ( or a Barrie swimming pool according to her girls) in the 80s.

Bowerbird5 · 26/07/2020 10:58

Barrie 🤣Barbie!

HellonHeels · 26/07/2020 11:02

Coloured bathroom suites are great if you've got a nice colour like yours. Have a look for coloured suite decor ideas.

I stayed in an amazing b&b in France that was beautifully designed - they had used a lavender bathroom suite with black and it looked fab.
