Recommendations for mops and vacuum cleaners please?!

Just that. It's a new house and want to keep it nice and clean.

I saw an advert for an alternative to a mop and bucket - can't remember what it was now, but I'm aware such a thing exists. Looked good and easier to maintain hard flooring. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, which vacuum cleaners do you recommend? I've used Dyson previously and it lasted years, but there are so many ranges now that I'm not sure which one to go for. Any other tried and tested brands that can be recommended?

I’ve got a shark lift away which is a really great hoover, and so much easier for the stairs. As good as if not better than a dyson and a lot cheaper!

I just bought a spray mop from home bargains which is easy to use, don’t need a bucket and it’s cheap which is good as I replace them quite a bit.

ChocoTrio · 17/06/2020 19:50

@Teacaketotty

Thanks! Shark lift away has an anti hair wrap feature which seems ideal!

Yes, that spray mop looks similar to the advert I saw!

I agree about the shark lift away, great and easy for awkward areas like the stairs, and works well on the pet hair if you have any animals too.

I'm going against the grain to say I hate the Shark we inherited! Very small container which needs emptying constantly. Plus clouds of skin flakes and dirt when you tip it out, and then put the dirty container back on the machine. We also have a Sebo, its brilliant and I don't know anyone who has gone back to anything else once they've had a Sebo.

I’ve had so many vacuums. I loved Dyson cordless. Expensive to replace and short warranty. Went over to shark. It was good for a while but my god is been awful for so long. We’ve had it 2 years. Just bought another Dyson v10 and hoovered after I had hoovered with the shark and got a whole container full of dust and dirt in 15 mins. I am in love (again) with Dyson.

A corded Miele - I hate dysons especially the cordless one where the battery life is not long. The Miele will last you many years - other brands will not.

Chuchyduck · 18/06/2020 10:09

I don’t like dysons, either. My favourite vacuum is the one we have now, a sebo felix pet. It’s amazing. We have a German shepherd and it’s great for picking up dog hair. Plus it’s a really nice looking 50’s style. We’ve had it for at least 7 years. It does use bags and you occasionally have to replace the filter, but I love it.
I quite like Hettys/Henry’s but they aren’t an upright and not so good on dog hair.
Otherwise , I’d go for such as a Miele, as the other poster mentioned. Although I’ve never had a Miele vacuum cleaner, I do have a fridge freezer and the quality is brilliant, it’s an excellent make.

rillette · 18/06/2020 10:09

Miele or Sebo!

MrBennsshop · 18/06/2020 10:40

Good to see the Sebo love! The Shark Liftaway we've got, aside from issues with the tiny container, doesn't come close to the Sebo in terms of performance either.

Gutterton · 18/06/2020 10:40

Another tip is once you have decided on a brand (for quality, reliability and longevity) don’t go for the latest or most highly specked version which will have so
many features that you probably won’t use but will pay for. We bought the roomba robot version recommended on here it was £160 - their current model with such features as starting it from your phone remotely was £800!

Sooverthemill · 18/06/2020 11:11

@Chuchyduck which Debo pet model do you have? We need to replace and there are so many variations. I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and an allergic child (I know) and my original Debo cylinder one was fab I thunk, 22 years ago! We have a Henry and I hate it with a passion

FiveShelties · 18/06/2020 12:03

Sebo, would never have anything else.

MrBennsshop · 18/06/2020 12:20

We've got the older version of sebo.co.uk/x7-pet/ this Sebo if that's any help? We have a very moulty dog and 2 cats. It's not a modern looking machine but is bloody brilliant.

ChocoTrio · 18/06/2020 12:39

Oh great! Thanks for all the tips!

I had never heard of Miele or Sebo before tbh. Will check it out.

The idea to not buy the latest edition but an earlier version is good. May save a bit of money too.

Our Miele is head and shoulders above the dyson...I think they’re overrated personally. Plus I’d rather not line the pockets if the awful James Dyson.

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 18/06/2020 15:43

Miele I got mine for £99 but it costs more now, Basic cylindrical with
fantastic suction. Long cord Bargain for the price

opinionatedfreak · 18/06/2020 16:05

Miele vacuums. Do not pass go (except perhaps to look at Sebo).

I'm on my third but only because they keep being pinched by other people! The previous two have ended up in the custody of others at various points and they have refused to relinquish them when I needed them back.

I currently have a fairly basic model reunited with the parquet brush that came with one of the previous more expensive purchases.

Only tip get one where the tools live in the body of the hoover. Having them clipped to the handle drove me mad.

Happydaysforever123 · 18/06/2020 16:08

Definitely a Miele, if you've got a cat or dog get one with the turbo brush to get all the fluffy hair up. I had a sebo for a year, it wasn't as good as a Miele, sold it and got another Miele.

mumdone · 18/06/2020 19:41

I w had Miele Cat and Dog didn’t rate it. Was pretty good at cleaning builders mess up though!!

PaulaSmith1 · 18/06/2020 23:18

Henry Hoover - there is a reason so many pro cleaning companies use them.

Chuchyduck · 19/06/2020 07:57

Sooverthemill , I’ve got the felix sebo pet. I think it would be great for you with your menagerie. I think it might have been replaced with a newer model, now. I’d definitely buy another, it’s fabulous

Recommendations for mops and vacuum cleaners please?!
Sooverthemill · 19/06/2020 15:16

@PaulaSmith1I have the Henry and I hate hate hate it! It falls over, it's noisy, it clogs up and it's soooo heavy to take up and down ( we have three floors) and I really dread using it. With so many animals I need something I don't mind picking up most days and the Henry is not that beast

ChocoTrio · 20/06/2020 15:38

Great! Thanks - I've got those down on my list and will try to see which one I can get on the best deal.

Aircraft powerglide for the mop. Pricey but amazing if you have alot of hard floors. There is a you tube video by toni interior that persuaded me that I recommend watching.

947EliseChalotte · 22/06/2020 02:45

Just got mine from shark. It's the cordless shark anti wrap vacuum..new design for 2020 It's great!Xx
