Recommendations for mops and vacuum cleaners please?!

Just that. It's a new house and want to keep it nice and clean.

I saw an advert for an alternative to a mop and bucket - can't remember what it was now, but I'm aware such a thing exists. Looked good and easier to maintain hard flooring. Anyone got any ideas?

Also, which vacuum cleaners do you recommend? I've used Dyson previously and it lasted years, but there are so many ranges now that I'm not sure which one to go for. Any other tried and tested brands that can be recommended?

I've got pets including a white long haired cat we have areal for which generates dust and we seem to attract mud wherever we go and bring it into the house. We bought a Eufy robotic hoover I admit I was sceptical but I am now. total convert . It's simply the best thing we've ever bought. We run it round our downstairs every day our floors have never looked better. It picks up white cat hair it may take it a while but who cares it's doing it whilst I'm doing other things. You can get a mop version (made by a different company) Ive looked at all the reviews and am planning on buying one at the end of the month.
Agree with comment up thread don't buy the newest model it will cost a fortune who needs a hoover you can start with your mobile phone mine has a remote control it works perfectly.

Vileda 1-2 spray mop for hard floors and Method floor products (the wood one, which smells of almonds, and the lemon ginger one for tiles). The mop head detaches, and you can throw it in the washing machine with the cleaning cloths or towels at 90 degrees.

I've got an older Dyson upright for the vacuuming. It's several years old now and as long as I keep cleaning the filters it does a good job. DC41 I think.

I have a Roomba somewhere but I never use it. It's overly dramatic and constantly moans about getting stuck on imaginary cliffs. Hmm

Mine doesn't like the sunshine it thinks its a change in level! But thats ok because I get sun in the kitchen in the morning and in the living room in the afternoon. Apart from that he's never "over dramatic"! Grin

Meant to add my friend has a Dyson wireless thing she said it was brilliant in the beginning but now she's less happy with it. She borrowed my robotic hoover to go under the beds but was surprised at how much dust it got out of her carpets in general despite having just run the Dyson round.

We've just bought a Dyson V11 to replace a Miele animal and it's transformed our house. It's so much easier to use and portable around the house. The amount of dirt it has sucked up has been astounding. The biggest plus is that the children love using it so now one hovers downstairs and the other upstairs so win win situation!

I was quite sceptical about Dysons with everyone preferring other brands these days. We already had a small handheld one but not a long handled version. The V11 was a Which? Best Buy and QVC quite often do a Dyson special offer where you can try it for so many days and return it if you don't like it. They also offered interest free payment over five months so it was a no brainer to try.

Dyson is generally very expensive and I'm not entirely convinced it's worth the mark up (because it feels like paying more for the brand name). Even their hair dryers is like £300-£400!

It's good to know what other brands people recommend. Thanks!

I have a shark and the novelty has worn off looking at the dirt

I wince a bit at the price of the cordless Dyson ones but the standard corded upright is about £200 I think.
